...Ash Wednesday - Ethan Hawke I bought this on whim when I was recently stocking up on books for my daily commute. I had no idea that Ethan Hawke was now writing books but was swayed by the cover art and blurb and was intrigued to see the kind of work he was putting out. Pretty thin reasons for buying a book but there you go. Here's what I thought. As an actor Hawke has been around for many years now, first coming to prominence in the saccharine Robin Williams blub fest that was Dead Poet's Society. Since that time he has appeared in many Hollywood films of varying quality but has managed to build himself a solid reputation as a semi-serious thesp. Ethan better writer than actor

Advantages: Easy to read, strong characters, strong plot
Disadvantages: This like Bukowski, but Buk is beter...

...certainly a great influence on Hawke here, but i really dont think that is such a bad thing. If you like your writers to give it to you straight up with no chaser, warts and all - cut to the bone and present the bare truth of situations as they occur, then this style of writing will be right up your alley. I do. Therefore i really liked the book and would recommend it to anyone lloking for a good love story with strong charcters and a plot that goes boom...

Advantages: Breathtaking, romantic, compelling
Disadvantages: A few minor niggles -see review

...When William meets Sarah he finds himself overwhelmingly drawn to a girl he knows is the opposite of what he's always found attractive in a woman. Within minutes he has fallen head over heels in love with this slightly frumpy and baffling young singer. A smooth transition from actor to writer

Advantages: Beautiful use of language and very personal
Disadvantages: quite heart -wrenching in some parts

...Ehtan Hawke, star of films that defined the 90's such as Reality Bites and Before Sunrise, has grown into a sensitive, creative and eloquent writer. I am sure many would immediately dismiss a novel written by someone of Mr Hawkes background. If being honest, I only bought the book by accident. It's a shame that as a society we can be so unforgiving of the famous. Certainly in this case the transition from actor to writer has been made to appear effortless. ...Recently there was an article which really sparked my emotions, both sadness and anger, surprisingly it was in The Sun (the most professional and reliable of the daily papers) the article was on the sate of Somalia and the history of the wars going on in the country. Quoted in the article was a film called Black Hawk Down, which I had heard of but never, had the opportunity to watch and had no clue about, later on when in discussion on the article, somebody brought the film up and highly recommended it. Buying the Film I bought the film in Blockbuster when I was returning a rental; it cost £4 which I thought was highly reasonable for a DVD, especially one which was recommended and according to the front of the DVD won two Oscars, and looked to carry an exciting cast set. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. ...Tony Hawks Proving Ground for the Wii.... Having only recently bought a Wii console I was a bit unsure as to what games to get that would have the best game play. Initially with the console I got more sport like games but because I purchased several of sport type games I was soon a little fed up and that took me to my local Game store where I swapped Mario Olympics for Tony Hawks Proving Ground (and Call of Duty). The game was priced at £29.99pencebut luckily enough was on a boy one get one free offer so with the swap of my Mario game I only had to pay an additional £10 to get Tony Hawks and Call of Duty. I thought this a great deal. The age rating on this game is a 12 so there is not really much blood and gore thankfully as it is only a skateboarding game! Now I have played many Tony Hawks games right from the first one...
