Lanterns, Taverns & barely edible food....
Advantages: Very Well Priced for London !
Disadvantages: Read on.....
...The Lantern Taverna
5 Grosvenor Parade,
Uxbridge Rd,
Ealing Common,
London.
W5 3NN.
I know this may just come as a bit of a shock to some of you, but there are some themes I haven't tried out before when it comes to restaurants and cuisine. I am actually quite a fussy eater and this previously restricted me to where I would venture for food when I was a little younger. Now I am a little more open minded and willing to try new things <school girl giggle> but the boat hasn't been pushed that far out that I can't see the shore line, so I am still paddling around and holding the boat in the shallow water. Step-by-Step.
The latest such bold step into the unknown, was the magical world of a Cypriot restaurant in Ealing Common Londinium.
Anyway, the review?
I was in London for business during the middle of last week for 3...

Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner
Advantages: Small, Compact, Lightweight, Affordable.
Disadvantages: Get's a bit hot when cooking.
...I go camping a lot! It would be fair to say that I enjoy it, very much! So it won't suprise you to learn that I love checking out camping shops for little gadgets or something new to experiment with.
When it comes to going away, you want to reduce the bulk of whatever you're taking. Even more so when camping, because if you're camping properly you want to go back to basics as much as you can!
This cookset made by Eurohike is brilliant! It's desgin means that you can easily nest each pot and pan inside one another to create a small bundle. Very space saving, very practical. A travel/carry bag is provided with the set.
Made of Aluminium, this cookset is very light. An obvious downside to being made of metal however, is the heat conducting qualities. So when cooking with the set you need to be constantly aware of how hot it may be...

A bright spark ??
Advantages: Bright, light, decent battery usage
Disadvantages: Bulky, Doesnt disperse light well
...plastic a tradtional hurricane lantern and comes in Eurohike Green!
But at £16 it is very affordable and will do an adequate job to shining a bit of light on a situation. Powered by 4 D batteries that fit easily. The battery life is long as LEDs are not really power hungry and I would imagine that with average use, most people will get a full season out of one set of batteries.
All in all and affordable basic lighting solution...

Measuring Miles Made Easy!
Advantages: Easy To Use, Lightweight
Disadvantages: Not Waterproof
...Most weekends I can usually be found trudging across some remote part of the Countryside. I have done this week in, week out for many years but it only recently struck me how many miles I must cover on an average walk. It is of course reasonably easily to estimate the distance covered with the aid of a good map but these days there are a whole range of little gadgets available, which measure the distance that you walked.
These gadgets are colloquially referred to as Pedometers. I have recently purchased a Eurohike Walking Pedometer which have I used for the past couple of months. I purchased this from a local Outdoors Shop for £9.99.
Prior to my purchase I had virtually no knowledge of Pedometers, other than being aware that they existed. There were actually two different choices available in the Shop that I went to. My decision...

Carry on Camping
Advantages: Easy to pitch, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Only suitable for light rain and short breaks maybe
...Ooer missus!! No, this is not going to be any of that! This is going to be about my camping activities and my little tent in particular!
A few years ago now I purchased a Eurohike 220 Dome tent for £39.99 from Milletts outdoor/camping store for the purpose of my music festival-going activities. At the time I thought I was being clever by buying a red one – “unusual” I thought “everyone else’s will be blue or green” I thought. On getting to the campsite at Reading Festival I realised it may just not be so easy to find my little red tent among the mere 10,000 or so other red tents among the 50 000+ campers – dammit! I was so jealous of the leopard print tent I spotted (pardon the pun!)
Back to the tent itself – a two berth (at a squeeze) of simple construction and a breeze to put up so...

The tent for the small
Advantages: The price
Disadvantages: The size
...I first purchased the Eurohike 220 about 2 years ago when I was going on a Duke Of Edinburugh expedition, the tent was light weight and it was very easy to carry on the expedition. Another reason I bought the tent was because it was so easy to erect. The poles easily located in the channels and it just popped up. The simple job of hammering in the pegs followed and then you could use it to your hearts content. This is the type of tent you need after you have been on a 15 mile hike, something that is easy to put up with no fiddeling.
The only problem with the tent is that it is too small it is about 5"8 long and now iam 6". This tent was a great tent and it served me well for the 2 years that it was in my possesion. The only problem now is finding a tent that will match it in price and in all of the other essential criteria that...

Not just for mending tents
Advantages: good for memding small holes and tears
Disadvantages: none
...Oh no I caught my Mac in a sac waterproof coat in the door of the car. I look at it; it has a small tear in it now. Bother, bother, bother.
The tear is only small about a couple of cm /1 inch it is near the hem of the coat. Shall I throw the coat away? The rip will only get bigger. No I shall repair it and use this waterproof coat to Glastonbury festival; I would not want to take a new one there. I know that I can buy some patches for mending nylon fabrics that tents are made from .So I went into Blacks outdoor equipment shop and bought myself a Eurohike nylon repair kit.
This kit cost me £2.99. The nylon repair kit is in a small clear plastic wallet with a card top which gives instructions for use on it . . I found this pack hanging up on a display rack a hole is punched out of the card top for easy display hanging.
I...

Easy to grow -easier to eat
Advantages: Easy to grow - good to look at
Disadvantages: Not a lot of fruit on plants - mildly poisonous leaves
...There are numerous varieties of Physalis or Chinese lantern possibly as many as 80. I have grown 2 of these which I will write about in this review.
Physalis pruinosa
a.k.a. Husk Tomato
This plant is a native of South America and comes from the same botanical family (Solanaceae)as the tomato, potato, sweet peppers and chillis
The fruit is commonly available in small baskets at an extortionate price in supermarkets although Asda were selling these at 50p for a small basket recently. They are very rich in Vitamens having twice as much Vitamin C as lemons
The fruit is small and orange and similar in size and shape to a cherry tomato, this is covered with a papery husk which is not for eating and in fact may even be slightly poisonous if eaten in quantity. (I can?t image why anyone would want to though)
I have heard varying...

Send your wishes to the Stars!
Advantages: Fun, different, a nice alternative to fireworks
Disadvantages: Can only be used on windless clear nights
...This sky lantern is not something which I would bought but it was given to me by my mom who was given it for us. I will admit that I was in no rush to light it as it is best to do so when it is dark and as the nights have been staying lighter for longer then we had not had chance to do so until last weekend.
The History of Sky Lanterns
Well, sky lanterns were made in China and they are now a Chinese Tradition, they were first invented during the three Kingdom Period. They were made and used by the locals to warn each other when enemy armies were approaching. They have now evolved and are used for sending personal wishes to the heavens and it is known that people do attach their own personal messages to the lanterns before they are lit and released. The lantern can now be found at weddings and special occasions.
