Measuring Miles Made Easy!
Advantages: Easy To Use, Lightweight
Disadvantages: Not Waterproof
...Most weekends I can usually be found trudging across some remote part of the Countryside. I have done this week in, week out for many years but it only recently struck me how many miles I must cover on an average walk. It is of course reasonably easily to estimate the distance covered with the aid of a good map but these days there are a whole range of little gadgets available, which measure the distance that you walked.
These gadgets are colloquially referred to as Pedometers. I have recently purchased a Eurohike Walking Pedometer which have I used for the past couple of months. I purchased this from a local Outdoors Shop for £9.99.
Prior to my purchase I had virtually no knowledge of Pedometers, other than being aware that they existed. There were actually two different choices available in the Shop that I went to. My decision...

Count my steps.
Advantages: Calculates calories burned off and miles walked, radio.
Disadvantages: Sometimes seems pointless to use.
...Whilst I have heard about pedometers, I have often wondered the point in them really, until I was given one for Christmas. I have not really had a burning desire to count the number of steps that I have walked prior to then, but if given a freebie, well you have to measure them out of curiosity don`t you?
What is a pedometer?

Pedometers in general perform similar functions and the Eurohike, multi Function pedometer is the one under review. A pedometer is a small plastic, battery operated digital piece of equipment with one display that you can change, depending on what you wish to measure. It is only a few inches, about 4 by 4 and light. It has a clip on it that the instructions advise you to clip on to your belt. I find a waistband works quite well. Basically pedometers count the number...

Eurohike Adventure Cookset with Burner
Advantages: Small, Compact, Lightweight, Affordable.
Disadvantages: Get's a bit hot when cooking.
...I go camping a lot! It would be fair to say that I enjoy it, very much! So it won't suprise you to learn that I love checking out camping shops for little gadgets or something new to experiment with.
When it comes to going away, you want to reduce the bulk of whatever you're taking. Even more so when camping, because if you're camping properly you want to go back to basics as much as you can!
This cookset made by Eurohike is brilliant! It's desgin means that you can easily nest each pot and pan inside one another to create a small bundle. Very space saving, very practical. A travel/carry bag is provided with the set.
Made of Aluminium, this cookset is very light. An obvious downside to being made of metal however, is the heat conducting qualities. So when cooking with the set you need to be constantly aware of how hot it may be...

These Feet Were Made For Walking...
Advantages: Robust, Inexpensive, Protected screen, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Clip too tight, Buttons a bit small and fiddly
...the Ramblers Association) and while I was aware that my activity level had gradually dropped over time (my rambling group disbanded, my work became more sedentary?), walking seemed the obvious choice to get it back up again. The only financial outlay that this system requires is some comfortable shoes to walk in, which I already had, and a pedometer so you can see the harsh reality of what you are actually doing each day. So, it was off to seek out a pedometer.
Essentially, a pedometer is a motion-sensitive electrical circuit that switches on and off, activating a counter. When you make a forwards or downwards motion, a pendulum inside the pedometer hits a sensor, completing the circuit and registering a step on the display counter: this movement usually makes a click or rattle that you can hear when you take a step. While you can buy expensive...

A great mapping tool
Advantages: An eay and accyurate tool for many recreational activities and its free
Disadvantages: Devising a route can be time consuming
...What is it?
From the famous Producers of Google Earth and Google Maps comes Gmaps pedometer, which in a nut-shell is a free piece of routing software that enables a variety of different users to devise a route and upload it to a GPS system (or print it out) and follow it.
Uses
This piece of software is very versatile and has many uses and it can be used to devise walking routes, running routes, cycle routes or any other outdoor pursuit route that you can think of, and to make it easier there are three functions, being automatically (for runners), automatically (for cyclists) and manually (straight lines), to devise your routes.
Being a keen cyclist I primarily use the automatically (for cyclists) function, although I have used both automatically (for runners) and manually (straight lines) and I can confess...

Carry on Camping
Advantages: Easy to pitch, inexpensive
Disadvantages: Only suitable for light rain and short breaks maybe
...Ooer missus!! No, this is not going to be any of that! This is going to be about my camping activities and my little tent in particular!
A few years ago now I purchased a Eurohike 220 Dome tent for £39.99 from Milletts outdoor/camping store for the purpose of my music festival-going activities. At the time I thought I was being clever by buying a red one – “unusual” I thought “everyone else’s will be blue or green” I thought. On getting to the campsite at Reading Festival I realised it may just not be so easy to find my little red tent among the mere 10,000 or so other red tents among the 50 000+ campers – dammit! I was so jealous of the leopard print tent I spotted (pardon the pun!)
Back to the tent itself – a two berth (at a squeeze) of simple construction and a breeze to put up so...

The tent for the small
Advantages: The price
Disadvantages: The size
...I first purchased the Eurohike 220 about 2 years ago when I was going on a Duke Of Edinburugh expedition, the tent was light weight and it was very easy to carry on the expedition. Another reason I bought the tent was because it was so easy to erect. The poles easily located in the channels and it just popped up. The simple job of hammering in the pegs followed and then you could use it to your hearts content. This is the type of tent you need after you have been on a 15 mile hike, something that is easy to put up with no fiddeling.
The only problem with the tent is that it is too small it is about 5"8 long and now iam 6". This tent was a great tent and it served me well for the 2 years that it was in my possesion. The only problem now is finding a tent that will match it in price and in all of the other essential criteria that...

Not just for mending tents
Advantages: good for memding small holes and tears
Disadvantages: none
...Oh no I caught my Mac in a sac waterproof coat in the door of the car. I look at it; it has a small tear in it now. Bother, bother, bother.
The tear is only small about a couple of cm /1 inch it is near the hem of the coat. Shall I throw the coat away? The rip will only get bigger. No I shall repair it and use this waterproof coat to Glastonbury festival; I would not want to take a new one there. I know that I can buy some patches for mending nylon fabrics that tents are made from .So I went into Blacks outdoor equipment shop and bought myself a Eurohike nylon repair kit.
This kit cost me £2.99. The nylon repair kit is in a small clear plastic wallet with a card top which gives instructions for use on it . . I found this pack hanging up on a display rack a hole is punched out of the card top for easy display hanging.
I...

Perfect for counting your 10,000 steps a day
Advantages: Easy to read display
Disadvantages: Clocks up steps you haven't done
...If you are determined to walk the recommended 10,000 steps a day then one of these little things is perfect to let you know how well, or not so well, you are doing.
This is just a step counter and not a pedometer, a pedometer will count your miles, steps, calories, speed and all sorts of things for the more hard core of you out there, the step counter just counts steps!
The step counter is really small, light, and discrete so you can wear it anytime and it won't bother you. It just clips on to your waistband, front or back and off you go! It doesn't need to be set up for your stride, it works on the pendulum inside with the movement of your legs, every time you take a step it moves the pendulum hence counting your step!
The only downside to not having to input your stride is that it's not very accurate, if you are standing still...
