LLB Law

Advantages: Very helpful staff when you have done some reading...
Disadvantages: if you haven't started your research, they are not going to bail you out!

...- your loan will not be so forth coming in the next yr. You need to have at least an 80% attendance rate to be ok. A law degree like many other requires severe determination and motivation. You are constantly working, either prparing for lectures, tutorials or seminars and thats EXCLUDING the work (research) you will need to do for coursework. You are expected to put in 40hours a week on the basics of your studies ie it is like a 9-5 job- no kidding, homework and coursework are extra. Boy if you get a reading week- be smart and dont waste it- use it to organise your books and your notes and start to revise. If not at least to get a head start on your coursework if you can. As part of your degree, you must learn the basics of English Law; FIRST YEAR: You will learn at DMU- Contract Law, Criminal Law, English and European Legal...

The Hendon Campus & Law.

Advantages: Excellent learning facilities
Disadvantages: Disorganised University

...Please note: I did not 'recommend' as this is a very personal & individual decision, which could go either way depending on the person. Since the last person wrote a review on Law at Middlesex University (2000), a lot has changed. I am in my final year, studying in Hendon & looking forward to graduation.. argh finally! Unfortunately, my experience of this University has not been entirely positive. To say the least, it was disappointing. I transferred from UEA to be nearer to my hometown. My decision to switch Universities (& start from scratch in year 1) was very last minute, which meant I had to go through clearing & accept anything available. Middlesex was the only University of several in London that I contacted with places still available. Relieved, I made my application & swiftly obtained a place on the LLB programme. I had not...

The LLB Law programme at UEA

Advantages: Lovely campus, high teaching standards, good reputation
Disadvantages: Norwich is a bit far out...

...Well, before transferring to Middlesex University to do Law from the start again, I spent a year at East Anglia(UEA). This is obviously only a very short period of time so my review will probably lack some detail, but hopefully you will still find it fairly useful. The area This is a single campus University, based in Norwich, East Anglia. I moved from Reading (near London) & found the driving distance to be around 3 to 4 hours, or train from Liverpool St generally taking 2 hours, no comment on Reading to London as this varies dramatically anyway. The train journey is quite comfortable though. Norwich is a fairly small city, but not without its fair share of things to do. There are a few clubs, tourist-like areas with cinema, all the popular restaurants, bars, shopping centres (from the old-fashioned, posh arcade to a modern...

One Law for all ?

Advantages: Good fun for kids.
Disadvantages: A bit dated.

...- 1979 Series Series 4 - 1975 - 1976 Episode 1: One Law: Part 1 Another ?Break out? Telepath is discovered but not before he is spotted by some ruthless villains. Episode 2: One Law: Part 2 Blackmail and law breaking as the tomorrow people are forced to take the law into their own hands. Episode 3: One Law: Part 3 An uneasy truce is called between the tomorrow people and a new bad guy as they are unable to trick or catch him in one of their traps. Only 3 episodes on this single disc and runs for 70 minutes. The show was a kids fun Sci-Fi show but later series tried to move to a more teenage and even an adult viewing audience, it never really worked. The plots to each show are quite good and move along at a fair pace. The dialogue however at times is not too good and in places awful. The science would not stand up to...

A Must Have For Any Law Student

Advantages: Indispensable; easy to use; has addititional information included; cheap price
Disadvantages: You can use the Internet to locate definitions, but the dictionary is more reliable

...a paperback edition, which I prefer as it makes carrying the dictionary simpler, as well as flicking through the pages to locate what I'm searching for. DOES THE DICTIONARY INCLUDE ANYTHING ELSE? The dictionary includes a section in the back containing various websites (free) which include advice, legislation etc. This is perfect for any law student and any solicitor or barrister who want to keep their knowledge on legislation fresh and up to date. It also includes a very helpful section, also at the back of the dictionary, explaining what abbrieviations used in the dictionary actually mean, e.g. CMLR = Common Market Law Reports, EJIL = European Journal of International Law, CC = County Council. If you don't understand an abbrieviation, flick to the back of the dictionary and it's clearly translated for you. If I struggle...

LLB Distance Learning at the Nottingham Law School

Advantages: Part time available, easy method of study, ongoing support
Disadvantages: 4 years part time as opposed to 3. Difficult subject matter

...learning will substantially reduce your everyday costs. With regards to the distance learning aspect of the course, if like me you feel you would be better suited to an actual attendance place, then do not despair. The e mails and posted literature are more than easy to understand, and tutors are only a telephone cal or e mail away. Very helpful they are too. As I have mentioned the simplistic way in which the course is presented, there are a lot of meaty, rich and traditionally difficult aspects of the Law to get your teeth into, and the course modules are as follows; Contract Criminal Law English Legal Method European Law Tort There are twelve modules, eight of which are compulsory and the main methods of learning are based on studying text and cases, additional information is available from the online electronic library...

Stoffy's Guide To Law Degrees

Advantages: very rewarding and useful qualification at a top University
Disadvantages: is extremely hard work

...philosophy of law) EC Law (European laws affecting the UK) Land Law (perhaps everyone’s least favourite subject, it deals with all things relating to, er, land) Equity (a complex area of the law revolving around the concept of ‘fairness’) Some University’s have other mandatory requirements, although the University of Manchester allows students to choose eight optional subjects in addition to the compulsory ten. I covered areas as diverse as Constitutional Reform, Gender and Law and Communication and Regulation of the Media as part of my course, which were very specialised. Admittedly, Manchester offers a very wide range of subjects that other Universities are unable to, but the majority of them offer subjects like Child Law and Family Law, as well as other core subjects which are not mandatory. One...

Economics and Law

Advantages: would potentially be the ideal combination
Disadvantages: let down by the university

...the Law Society requirements. It also is looked upon professionally as a very good basis in business with the economics. The nature of the course is as follows: In the first year the modules are Constitutional and Administrative Law 1 and 2 Contract Law 1 and 2 Learning Legal Skills Microeconomics Macroeconomics Using Maths in Economics Analysing Economic and Legal Data These are compulsory as are the following modules for the second year: The second year modules are: Tort Law 1 and 2 European Union Law 1 and 2 Economics of Law 1 Households Markets Firms and Welfare Market Power & Market Failure Foundations of Macroeconomic Theory In the third year the following modules are compulsory: Criminal Law 1 and 2 Economics of Law 2 There is then 75 credits left to use on a choice of economic and law modules...

Law at City University

Advantages: Good teaching and administration
Disadvantages: Facilities and students

...at the university is dedicated to Law. Th full range of journals, textbooks, caselaw and legislation is covered throughtout the library and the staff know everything you can have a question about. The only problem with the library is the discipline within it and the implementation of rules. People constantly talk with their ego's and image overpowering their sight to respect people who are there to work. Law isn't easy, being able to read in piece would be nice. Rating **** Course Administration: The course administration is good. Everything that is presented to students appears in three places, by email, in pigeon holes and on the course noticeboard. Whenever I have a question a reply is on the other end of the internet everytime. The only problem found so far is the time taken to receive coursework back however i believe this is a problem to do...
