Smile Away The Years
Advantages: Look and feel younger without spending a fortune
Disadvantages: People think you are nuts
...Approaching her mid thirties, Lydia was terrified of looking and growing older. Then in the summer of 1991 I read in a national newspaper about a new book that had been released that could help you to look younger. Lydia's birthday was the following week so I thought perfect and trotted off to WH Smiths and bought Eva Fraser's Facial Workout for £3.99.
When I got home I was curious yet dubious about the content, especially as at the top of the front cover it states 'Look fifteen years younger'. I read it through and it made more sense than the promises on the labels of expensive lotions and potions, so I kept that copy for myself and bought another for Lydia.
At the time I was training regularly at a gym and had learned that exercising the muscles in my body was helping to tone my skin up and diminish the dreaded cellulite. This...

House of Fraser Guildford
Advantages: Great presentation, nice staff
Disadvantages: A little expensive!
...House of Fraser, or Army and Navy as it was previously known, has bought business and people to Guildford for many years now. But why is it that people keep coming back? What is it about the House of Fraser experience that keeps luring them back to the store?
My nearest House of Fraser has been shut for about nine months. But, after huge rennovation, it has now re-opened it's doors and it's stunning. It has marble floors, glass bannisters, chrome escalators... the list goes on - it's a nice modern building.
Inside, there is a great collection of just about anything. There's clothing, homeware, electronics - all made by well-known and good quality makes. You can also find selections of toys, easter eggs, or other goodies depending on the time of year you visit.
There is an extensive cosmetics department, with just about every...

EVA CASSIDY - a tribute to her life.
Advantages: An angel that died.
Disadvantages: died too young.
...This is the month when we have been asked to write musical reviews. I wrote a review on Songbird, a record by Eva Cassidy, though feel it is not enough to write about her record. Her life mattered to a lot of us, and without her songs, my life would not be as it is today. This is my tribute to a short life that left its mark on me.
Eva Cassidy was born on the 2nd February 1963 and died on the 2nd November 1996. She grew up just outside Washington, and came from a musical background, her father teaching children with learning disabilities and part time musician. She was a child that loved music from a very early age and formed a band with her father and brother, and went on to be a backing singer for more well known artists who recognised the quality of her voice. I cannot put into words the kind of music she sang. It was a cross...

House of Fraser - House of Hell
Advantages: Good coffee bar....
Disadvantages: Rude staff, over priced products, poor layout
...I went into the GlasgowHouse of Fraser this weekend after being given £100 worth of vouchers. I had been into the store on a couple of previous occassions but each time, I had the feeling that I wasn't good enough to shop there and that I didn't belong. When you start to worry that a bouncer won't admit you because you aren't wearing the right shoes or if your hair isn't combed just right, or god forbid your toddler isn't wearing clearly visible designer labels, you know it isn't going to be an enjoyable shopping experience.
I decided to have a look for some shorts and t-shirt for my son since the sun was shining (Being Glasgow I hadn't anticipated the heat wave we had). I thought I had missed the Children's section as their was only a tiny corridor worth of clothing for children from 0-14 years. I saw a cute little t-shirt but...

Fraser Island 4WD Bus Day Tour
Advantages: beautiful
Disadvantages: TOURISTY! Crowded
...Fraser Island is one of those "must do" things for backpackers when travelling the East Coast of Australia! It is the largest sand island in the world, home to wild dingos (wild dogs for those a little mystified!), can only be reached by boat from the mainland, has no sealed roads so is only attainable by 4WD vehicles and is covered in beautiful scenery.
I went on a day tour from Hervey Bay which is where most tours will leave from. I got picked up from right outside my hoste although they were about 15minutes late and I thought I had been forgotten for a little while there! A number of tour operators run these 1 ady tours and I looked into them and honestly believe they are all much of a muchness, all around $120 (50 quid) per day, all spending the same amount of time on the island and all visiting the same attractions!
We got...

The Life of Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser
Advantages: Well Written, A Great Story of the Life of Marie Antoinette
Disadvantages: Can be Quiet Complex in Places, Gets Confusing with the Politics and Names
..., masked balls and excessive expenditure on clothing. These later were to create her downfall and dislike by the French Court and the French people by the excessive rumors and scandals associated with her life. Fraser portrays the Queens ignorance and naivety to these as she surrounded herself in a fantasy world at Versailles.
Once i started reading this book i could not put it down, and began further researching into the Life of the Queen. Fraser holds a compassionate and modern perspective of her life and produces excessive and concrete evidence that blows apart the scandals and rumors that created Marie's eventual downfall as Queen and acted as the catalyst of the French Revolution. Fraser demonstrates how the Queen was cast as the scapegoat of the country economic failings and was cast as a traitor to the people.
This book does get...

'Jail' House of Fraser more like.
Advantages: Wide range of items
Disadvantages: Annoying Security Guards, visually off putting
...House of Fraser could be such a good department store but there is a number of annoying things about it, all of which I think could be sorted. I am referring to only one store, the Milton Keynes branch, as I have not yet visited others.
The problems are that firstly and the most annoying is if you enter the store in a group of more than two and you are all youngish in age at least one security guard will follow you, quite obviously, around the store. It feels like being in jail and usually makes use leave straight away. I do not understand why this happens here yet at other department stores like John Lewis for example, everything is fine. I know that they both have CCTV in place. Does House of Fraser just not use theirs?
A second problem is a lot of the staff seem to be up themselves as though they have landed a top job yet...

The Largest Airline You've Never Heard of...?
Advantages: Good value, affordable premium economy, attentive staff
Disadvantages: Seat a little uncomfortable for longhaul
...I was more than a little sceptical when my travel agent of choice, Trailfinders, found me seats on Eva Air, for my recent trip to Thailand. I did a little research, and in general, I couldn?t find any bad word against the airline. Even consumer reviews, limited as they were, all rated the airline as four stars out of five. I was attracted to flying with them as for approximately the same price as BA economy, I could fly Eva Air Premium Economy, and that extra pitch makes all the difference when flying long haul..so I took the plunge and figured I could cope with inferior service and inferior food as long as I had leg room?and if technically they were inferior and it crashed?well I wouldn?t be any the wiser. My sister was a source of further encouragement when she said, ?I have looked at them more than once, so you take the plunge...

For an accessible journey through the ages?
Advantages: Highly researched, educated and competent writer and historian
Disadvantages: None
...Introducing Lady Antonia Fraser:
Antonia Margaret Caroline Pakenham was the first child born to the 7th Earl of Pakenham (who later became Lord Longford) on August 27 1932 in Bayswater. With her privileged upbringing consisting of a hereditary title and convent school education she was always bound to achieve a thing or two in her life as were her writer siblings Thomas Pakenham and Rachel Billington. Antonia's Mother Elizabeth Harman (later known as Elizabeth Longford) was an acclaimed historical writer in her own right. Lady Antonia's title came in 1945 when her Father was sent to the House of Lords having been defeated for the Oxford Seat at parliament.
Lady Antonia married MP Sir Hugh Fraser in 1956 and had six children with him: Benjamin, Damien, Rebecca, Orlando, Flora and Natasha before they divorced in 1977...
