Marton Mere: A Great Base To Explore Blackpool

Advantages: set on a nature reserve, clean park
Disadvantages: I dont like the Haven entertainment

...Me and my friend decided to get away for a short break for the first week of the Easter holidays with two twelve year olds and settled on Blackpool as our destination. After searching the web for accommodation in the area we decided to go for Marton Mere holiday resort. Based on the outskirts of Blackpool it looked like a good base for us to explore the area and we were hoping that the kids would enjoy the onsite facilities too. Most people book directly with Haven holidays and get an all inclusive deal for accommodation with entertainment passes. This would have cost us £300+ for the week in April 2009 that we wanted to stay. Another option is to hire a caravan directly from a private owner on the site. This was the option my sister took last summer so we knew that the landlord was one we could trust and we got an 8 berth caravan...

Haven Marton Mere (Blackpool)

Advantages: Ideal for young children, Great off peak prices, Tourist attractions easily accessible
Disadvantages: I'd Probably say all of it, if it weren't for my daughter!

...Ok, so a Haven caravan in Blackpool isn't my dream holiday. That would be lying on a beach in the Bahama's somewhere, sipping cocktails. If only.... However I'm a single mum to two children, aged , at the time of visit last June, age 3 and 11. My eldest was off on a 3 week tour of California with my parents, so that left just me and my 3 year old daughter. I've never been on holiday alone, and I don't drive. This is why I chose the Haven holiday park at Marton Mere, Blackpool. It was easily accessible by train within a couple of hours and the location of the camp promised plenty of attractions within a short and regular bus journey. I booked through the Haven website, and chose a superior Plus 6 sleeper caravan. This was the 'mid range' caravan and included in the price entertainment passes (needed for any of the facilities...

Her life mattered to a lot of us, and without her songs, my life would not be as it is today. This is my tribute to a short life that left its mark on me. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. EVA 9150-great addition to my living room; not to my bank

Advantages: Massive file range, incredible wireless networking, quiet, looks good
Disadvantages: Simply too costly right now - extra features do not justify price

...This machine is fantastic - it has even converted the wife who is as Luddite as they come. Its connection speeds with my router are pheomenal, using the n-standard, and I've been able to stream HD video from my router upstairs to this downstairs effortlessly. Misses out Windows Media Centre altogether (good thing!) and simply indexes your shared folders on whatever is your server. For me, I have a 1TB MyBook attached to my router and this works perfectly. Range of files is unsurpassed - including ISO - so you can back up your DVDs and keep them scratch free somewhere safe. 500GB hard drive is useful for your favourite stuff - easily managed too. The outputs on the back are extensive - the picture quality through the HDMI even when upscaling is superb. Really can't fault this machine at all except for minor things like the UI is...

  The Largest Airline You've Never Heard of...?

Advantages: Good value, affordable premium economy, attentive staff
Disadvantages: Seat a little uncomfortable for longhaul

...I was more than a little sceptical when my travel agent of choice, Trailfinders, found me seats on Eva Air, for my recent trip to Thailand. A Definite Songbird

Advantages: A great mix of tracks

...Eva Cassidy is a woman who had an amazing voice but it would not be until after her sad death from cancer that she would become world known. She spent years singing in pubs and recording backing vocals for more established singers and finally one of the producers at a studio she had sang at recognised what an amazing voice she had and would record heart every available opportunity. Eva made her first album in 1996, title The Other Side' but it would not become known publicly and outside of her community until after her death.
