Evolution beautifully explained
Review of The Blind Watchmaker - Richard Dawkins by
Antnic78
Advantages: Engrossing, thought-provoking and informative read.
Disadvantages: Some aspects of the book are difficult to follow.
...The Blind Watchmaker is a fabulous book about genes and evolution that provides an explanation for the complexity of humans and other animals. Many believe that such complexity could only have been designed by some higher being because everything within our bodies seem to work perfectly in performing their given function.
Dawkins argues that yes we are highlt complex but this has come about through evolution and millions of tiny changes over millions of years that ultimately lead humans and aniimals today.
The book provides an in depth explanation of how evolution works through natural selection (many people are unaware of how evolution actually works) in a very easy to follow and engaging way. Dawkins uses a number of interesting examples to illustrate the points he is making such as the complexity and function of the eye...

Time to Evolve
Review of Evolution by
PlanetPerfecto
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...When Evolution first opened i was licking my lips with anticipation, but what promised to be a huge venue capable of putting cardiff on the clubbing map has turned into an average cheesy nightclub. Not that that means its not a good club however, i've had many a good night in Evloution with reasonably priced drinks on Student Nights (wednesday) and two huge rooms catering for pop/cheesy music and dance music (albeit commercial).
Evolution also offers a free bus service running between the club and town every 20 minutes from 9pm til 2am so you'll have no problems getting there.
Now with attractions such as bucking broncos and cages to spin you around in, you are sure to have fun, and almost surer to be ill the next day.
Not a clubbers club, but defintely worth a look if you're looking for a bit of fun....

Biography of a planet
Review of BBC2 - Earth Story by
EarthGirl
Advantages: Fascinating
Disadvantages: some people will find it very boring and or dull
...Maybe its because geography was my favorite subject at school, but I find this series fascinating. Earth Story is a documentary series charting the turbulent 4.5 billion year history of the planet earth.
This tale of the earth’s evolution looks at the changing geology and geography of the planet, covering topics such as tectonic plates and continental drift and the evolution of biological life. Throughout the show theories about the earth’s evolution are discussed, explained and examined, as are the methods and evidence used by scientists to reach conclusions. Basically as well as exploring the history of the planet this show also explains how and why we know as much as we do.
This series features spectacular imagery from around the globe and interviews with leading scientists who explain theories and facts about...

Humour has Evolved
Review of Evolution (Wide Screen) by
ravinm
Advantages: A break from the regular high school comedies. Very funny.
Disadvantages: A little short. Perhaps too frivolous for some
...I decided to see this film because I forgot my friends bithday and she was not impressed. To make it up to her I decided to take her to the film of her choice - Evolution. I wasn't really expecting much, i admit, but Evolution turned out to be the funniest film i've seen in a long long time.
The film starts with humour and continues throughout, the plotline is a bit weak, but the jokes are great, it's from the director of Ghostbusters and it shows, it's 'old skool' comedy.
All the big films today seem to be either historical, romantic or teen comedy, with the occasional science ficton action movie thrown in frm time to time, its refreshing to watch a comedy that doesnt take itself to seriously and is not based on high school.
The characters arent really developed, but it doesnt really matter because it doesn't detract from...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
Review of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360) by
retrakill
Advantages: Feels Real, Match atmosphere captured brilliantly, brilliant in multiplayer
Disadvantages: bad menus, bad music, not the greatest graphics in the world
...Every year the big sports games companies unleash their new football games on the fervent consumers. This year, Konami released Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 to critical indifference. The game has been seen, up util now, as the greatest adaptation of modern football for games consoles. This year though, EA's FIFA 2008 stole the crown with its superb visuals and in depth career mode. In my humble opinion, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is the far better game. I purchased both games on release date but have since sold FIFA. The reason for this is the fact that FIFA provides an admitedly impressive experience, but one that gets stale very quickly. Match ups between lesser teams play exactly the same as a game between the best rated teams in the game. Pro Evo 08 though, is filled with unpredicatble and fun moments.
The control system...

The beatiful game at its best!!!!
Review of Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (Xbox) by
Tom150990
Advantages: Very good gameplay
Disadvantages: Some kits, player names and team names are wrong
...I think Pro evolution 4 is the best football game on the market at the moment. There is a few things that let it down though, it dosen't have all the proper team kits and names also some of the player names are wrong. It might not be the best looking football game but the gameplay more than makes up for it. You can unlock various different things on the game by getting PES points by winning tournaments and leagues, for example you can unlock different footballs, old players, higher difficulty levels etc. The master league has also improved since the last installment of pro evolution. If you want the most realistic gameplay this is the game for you but if you want the better looks and proper names and kits i would advise you to buy Fifa 2005, but in my oppinion pro evolutions gameplay beats Fifa's looks and names. You can buy this game...

Evolution - Worthy of any console
Review of International Superstar Soccer Pro Evolution (PSX) by
Chris_Woodcock
Advantages: Miles ahead of their competitors, playablity, smooth graphics, totally addictive
Disadvantages: Lack of official names
...The football game market for consoles nowadays is extremely competitive to say the least. Rarely does a series of games take control and show the rest how it should be done. The ISS Pro range is one of the exceptions. I purchased Evolution just after it came out. Sure I had a Fifa game (who doesn't) and Actua Soccer. I wondered what difference ISS Pro would bring. Was I in for a surprise. Smooth graphics, playability and the ability to make you want more and more. It says a lot for a game that it can be so popular yet still have no license to use proper names. I would describe this as the definitive game in my collection. You will never become bored of this game. ISS Pro evolution 2 was launched last weekend. Looks like I'll have to break open the piggy bank again!...

Evolution
Review of Creation Vs Evolution by
Ludwig99
Advantages: A good explanation
Disadvantages: Not applicable
...Evolution in the Darwinian sense has nothing to do with what people believe in. It is not a matter of faith as some creationists suggest. nor does it have anything to do with how the universe began. Biological evolution is the change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals. This can culminate in development of a new species. According to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated.
Creationists and those who believe in intelligent design will use pseudo scientific arguments such as irreducible complexity and claim...

The Tail Of Evidence
Review of Creation Vs Evolution by
muttleythefrog
Advantages: Should contribute something to Ciao
Disadvantages: It's lengthy
...Personal Statement
----------------------------
“I remain to the Jehovah Witness a fine source of tea and abysmal source of inspiration”
I last studied biology formally at the age of 16 but never was I taught about Evolution. My knowledge of the subject comes from my own early theories and observations whilst avoiding paedophiles in the park, later reading, near lifetime of curious assessment of the evidence, compulsion to extend the theory, and apply it to social and political policy. I am not a professional scientist but spend much of my time examining scientific theory and data, have a history of public debating with scientists and others, and currently act in my spare time as a scientific and campaign adviser to some political organisations.
The following is inspired by a review from clownfoot that I read very early on in my time...

Creation is not a scientific alternative
Review of Creation Vs Evolution by
bigbtommy
Advantages: Evolution is good science
Disadvantages: Creation is non science and bizarre theology
...Let my first start by saying this. I am currently writing a book on bizarre beliefs, and creationism forms a large part of it. In this review, I intend to set out to prove that creationism is not a viable scientific alternative to the theory of evolution or the surrounding theories of abiogenesis, and the natural study of the Earth.
The arguments put forward by creationists are fallacious, disingenious and are red herrings on the path to scientific understanding. Creationism or intelligent design should not be taught in school science classes for a number of reasons, which I will delve in to later. There is a great deal of controvesy in both Britain and the United States over the teaching of creationism, especially since Sir Peter Vardy opened a number of schools in the North of England which teach creationism as a scientific...
