Nice laptop, FAB extended warranty!

Advantages: Good specs, fast, wonderful extended warranties
Disadvantages: Feels a bit flimsy, no indicator lights showing wifi connection, etc.

...of accidental damage support cost £129 on top of the 4-year package for extended warranty (can't recall what that cost; something like £89? Maybe £100?). Those warranties have already more than paid for themselves. We'll want to replace this laptop in four years, so it's covered from any clutzy mishaps for the entire time we'll be using it. Really, really pleased with this warranty! That said, we had this same warranty on our last Dell Inspirons (we each had one; I'm still using my old one), except it was for three years instead of four, and never once had to file a claim - though we both developed problems in the fourth year with our computers and wished we had the four-year warranty. The warranty is quite pricey if you never have a problem, but it really has come in handy for us this time and means a lot of peace of mind! I'll be getting these...

Coverplan - Extended Warranty -

Advantages: does what it says on the tin
Disadvantages: customers not reading the terms and conditions

...I thought I would put some points of view across about the extended warranty - Coverplan. Extended warranties have all had their own bad press in one way or another, whether it be purchased from Dixon?s Stores Group, Comet or direct from the Manufactures. The thing is Coverplan does do exactly what it says on the tin - Covers the named item for unlimited repairs. Before I go any further I best explain why I think I am best qualified to explain Coverplan and why I am speaking out in favour of Coverplan - I worked for Coverplan in the contact centre for 4 years taking calls from customers, store assistants and engineers, so I have heard it all - I have been sworn at, threatened, shouted at till my eardrums have nearly burst and generally verbally abused. Warranty Wise - no problems

Advantages: Good tailored policy

...I have had a number of warranties for used cars and this firm are very good. Like all insurance it is important to take a policy which has terms suitable for you. What I liked about this policy is that you can tailor it to your own needs. The most important things about car policies are the wear and tear, excess and labour rate. Most policies exclude wear and tear. Get one that for a small premium ignores wear and tear. Otherwise most components on an older car won't be covered. Get one with a labour rate that is realistic. Avoid large excesses otherwise you will never claim. Warranty Wise were quick with their payment. Okay like most you had to give them every document that they wanted but that is within the terms. Don't like the terms then don't accept. I had a photochromatic dipping rear mirror on my M3 that failed. No problem...

Most manufacturers state that you do not have to have your servicing carried out with them to keep your warranty intact, however genuine manufacturer parts must be used and the service must be carried out by a VAT registered company. If genuine parts are not used then you run the risk if invalidating your warranty. For example, a 2 year old car, requires brakes, non genuine brakes are fitted. This would indicate that if a defect within the braking system occured and was as a result or worsened by the non genuine parts fitted then your warranty on the braking system would be invalidated. It wouldnt invalidate your whole warranty however. Extended warranty companies can be very sly at times. Before buying a policy check what items are covered and more importantley what items are NOT covered. A good thing to also check...

Review of Dealer service and warranty

Don't bother with an extended warranty

Advantages: Offers low prices on electrical items and easy pay schemes
Disadvantages: Customer service is lousy and the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Their attitude stinks, and it's the CUSTOMER who is wrong!

...... because as far as Comet are concerned, once they have your money, they don't have to worry about providing customer service. There are plenty of other companies willing to offer service ... it's a pity Comet isn't one of those who values their customers. Take my daughter, and the saga she has with them that is proving to be an uphill battle. She has an extended warranty on a cooker that she bought from them about eighteen months ago. Supposedly, if they can't fix something going wrong on it, within 48 hours, they will replace it ... or so the warranty states. Yes, and we can all see those pigs flying around, can't we? My daughter's cooker messed up on the 9th of July. She has two small children - Angelica is 6 and Nicolette is 5 - who have now been living mainly on sandwiches or microwaveable food since then. VERY VERY BAD extended warranty customer service

...I don't even know where to begin with my troubles with comet. I bought a rather expensive laptop which was going to take me a while to pay off, so I naively thought it would be a good idea to pay £260 extra for comet's "Comet On Call" extended warranty. The documentation makes it all sound so easy. If the manufacturer's warranty has expired and you have a problem, you can just call them up on the number given, they'll pick it up, fix it and get it back to you. If only. 13 months after I bought the laptop, the insulation on the laptop power cable started to come loose, and eventually the metal wire was fully exposed, and at times was burning, sparks were literally flying from it. "No problem", I thought, "It's under warranty, I'll just call comet and they'll send a new one". So, I called comet, got passed around, had to call back...

EXTENDED CAR WARRANTY PLAN

Advantages: Financial protection against breakdown of many of car major components
Disadvantages: Some exclusions.

...Excellent car warranty plan and good value for money. Customer Services staff are knowlegeable, courteous and helpful and will explain what is and isn't included in the warranty. Warranty documents arrive quickly, and include a claim form. If you need to make a claim, as I did recently, the authorisation was all done online between my garage and Warranty Direct. You pay the bill to your garage and apply for a refund. All I had to do then was check the claim, sign it and send the claim to Warranty Direct for refund. The refund check arrived about 2 weeks later, together with a new claim form. Be aware that the small print includes mention of automatic renewal, but as the company sends a renewal reminder 3 or 4 weeks before renewal is due, I cannot say whether automatic renewal is ever applied....
