Great easy to use cd rom
Review of Driving Test Success All Tests (2006/07 Edition) by
victoriarichardson1
Advantages: includes hazzard perception videos and monitors progress over time
Disadvantages: You have to run it from the cd
...This is a really good practice cd rom. You can do mock theory tests and mock hazzard perception tests plus it has all the theory eg highway code etc that you need.
The clever thing with this cd rom is that it works out what areas you are weak on and can give you more of those specific questions. Plus it does various graphs of how youre doing over time and what you need to work on. An excellent cd rom which gives lots of tips and has lots of videos to help you along the way.
Very easy to use and you can even download podcasts to your mp3 player to learn as you go.
Highly recommneded and a bagain as well....

Freecome DVD RW Recorder USB 2.0
Review of Freecom DVD RW Recorder LS USB 2.0 by
RMcCartyhy
Advantages: ummmmm
Disadvantages: Doesn't work very well, slow, intermitently recognises disks, poor back up service, need I go on?
...I ordered my Freecom DVD Recorder LS USB 2.0 after my CD/DVD drive packed up on my 15 month old HP Desktop. I wanted it mainly to load CD ROM and burn DVD's from movies already converted to DVD format on my hard drive. Being that my PC had no disk drive I relied upon this external drive to load the bundled DVD burning software (Roxio 9). This took several days and many attempts. Then I tried burning my first DVD. After taking 3 hours to do a task that previously took about 30 minutes, this recorder produced a disc that no dvd player in my home recognised (and I have 4). I found the user interface very unfriendly and it simply didn't work. Needles to say, I'll be getting a refund!...

Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba
Review of Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive by
skrg28
Advantages: Small, looks very cool
Disadvantages: Noe really, does what it says it does
...Toshiba External USB 2.0 Combo Drive
INTRO
Along with my recent office purchase of the R200 laptop and seeing as it was minus a CDROM I bought an external CD unit.
I originally made the mistake of buying the DVD ROM version and at £85 that was next to useless. So I returned that and got the Toshiba External USB2 Combo Drive. There are a few different ones out there, this one wrote CD's and read DVD's.
IMPRESSIONS
When you open the box up your greeted with what first looks like an MP3 player. Size wise its not much bigger than a CD. The finish of this one was brushed aluminium to match the R200 laptop.
Quality is easily very high, just like Toshiba's other offerings. If nothing else the Combo drive looks cool.
CONNECTION
The combo drive is connected up with a standard USB 2 cable. Not external power supplies are needed. This makes...

Why you should upgrade to Creative Labs
Review of Creative Labs 52Xmx CD-ROM by
rapoob
Advantages: Fast, Silent, Cheap in Price
Disadvantages: NONE!
...Okay, I understand that all of you may not be up-to-date with the "techie lingo," so I'm here to help explain everything. I'm going to try to help make everything easy to understand, and if anything is unclear, simply email me or leave a comment and I'll get back to you ASAP. So now on to the good stuff.
What is a CD-ROM Drive?
A CD-ROM Drive is a drive (it can be internal or external) that allows you to read CD's. Newer CD-ROM drives will allow you to read CD-R's and CD-RW's as well and the easiest way to figure out if your CD-ROM can read newer CD's that were not around 10 years ago is to look at the box. In reality, though, most people do not keep their boxes, so I would just say call up the company that makes your computer and you can find out. For all of you who do not know what a CD is, I would say that you should go be taken...

BenQ External CD-RW - Plug & Burn!
Review of BenQ CRW 5232WI by
Conga
Advantages: Speed, attractive, good tech. support
Disadvantages: old burning software
...If you are looking for an external CD-RW, BenQ's USB2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible) is a solid piece of equipment at a reasonable price for external drives.
52 speed CD write (providing your media and computer support this), 32 speed CD re-write and a 52 speed CD Rom drive. It's a nice looking drive and doesn't look out of place sitting next to your computer. BenQ even provide two vertical stands so it can be fitted into the smallest of spaces by standing it on it's side. Simply plug and burn!
Set up is quick and simple. A floppy disc contains the drivers, but you don't need this if you are running Windows ME/2000/XP. Simply connect to power, connect with USB Cable (Supplied) and windows will install the driver. Within seconds you are up and running.
Bundled software is the excellent Nero Express v5.5.10.26, which is a bit dated but I...

What a good idea!
Review of Ricoh DVD/CDRW MP9060 by
pgarbutt
Advantages: Combo drive
Disadvantages: slighly slow CD burn rate compared to others
...I got this drive to eliminate the need for having separate DVD and CDRW drives when I was building a PC for someone.
The drive is IDE and lives quite happily on your secondary channel as a master - this is the recommended option to eliminate CD writing failures and DVD playback artifacts.
The drive comes complete with CD burning software in the shape of Nero Burning ROM V4, as opposed to the usual suspects of Adaptec Easy CD Creator or CeQuadrat Win On CD. This does not mean that the software is not up to par - far from it! NBR4 can do everything the competition can and more, such as overburning media and bootable CDs.
The main reason for this is the DVD read capability. Although the 4x read is somehat behind what most dedicated DVD drives offer nowadays, in reality you only need 1x DVD read to view a movie. Let's face facts - how...

Aztech CD Roms and others like it
Review of Aztech CD ROM by
m.holmes
Advantages: Aztech and Delta drives, as an example, are much cheaper than bigger names
Disadvantages: If you buy cheaper CD ROM drives expect lower performance
...I have mixed feelings about Aztech CD-ROM Drives – and other cheap makes.
Everything seemed fine until the speed's started to increase to 24x and beyond. I was used to slower drives and wonder quite why anyone would need a CD-ROM to go so fast – but who am I to know?
I have never had any problems with CD-ROM running at around 10 to 16 speed.
Anyway, I found on a 32x Aztech drive that it couldn’t get up to full speed without cutting off before it could read data. It was a never-ending loop of stopping and starting, making installation of any program a long drawn out affair.
Eventually I had the unit replaced with a Delta CD ROM. It’s better, but still seems to suffer from its high speed at times.
I would recommend, and it’s only my opinion, that you spend a bit more and purchase a Yamaha, Philips, Teac or any other well-known brand...

great for learning
Review of Driving Test Success Complete package by
malison
Advantages: brilliant insight into the tests
Disadvantages: shows you just how hard the tests are!
...im a single mum of three, who desperatly needs to get a driving license!
everyone has always said "how hard" the test can be, i always remember thinking "what 35 questions!!".
i brought this cd rom in asda for £7.97, and i am so glad that i did! the cd rom has got every single test question thats in circulation at the moment (over 1000). it also has the new hazard perception cd rom, which means watching short clips of cars driving and spotting the hazards ( which may i add,i am not very good at all! ).
you can print out tests, take tests, take certain subjects out of the tests. the tests even get marked, which is great, it tells you what your good at and what your not. so then you know what you need to brush up on the most.
i think this is a brilliant way of learning, im so glad i brought it, this was the first cd rom i brought, i...

WARNING - Maybe fast but it's too fast
Review of AOpen CD 952E by
robertliu84
Advantages: Reads many formats, cheap
Disadvantages: TOO FAST!
...days ago. It's a 52x CD ROm, and is pretty fast.
The reason I got this, was because my previous one could not read many formats or types of CD ROMs. Now this AOpen 52x IDE CD ROM is perfect. It reads every thing. Including CD-RW! It is fairly silent running. It came at a very affordable price, and at great speeds. 7800k/s. Which is quite fast. I am pleased with this buy, and well what more can I say? That's probably as good as a CD-ROM can get nowadays! The only thing this CD ROM doesn't do, is write CDs, or play DVDs, which can be done with other drives that come at a higher price....

Packs Some Heavy Power
Review of Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 - PIII 750 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
4ciaopaul
Advantages: Full of features, robust and good display
Disadvantages: Heavy to carry around
...The Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 Laptop Computer is a good reliable workhorse and I have been using mine most days for the last two years.
>>> General Description <<<
At the front of the computer is a display latch. Sliding this to one side allows the display panel to hinge up to set the screen to your desired angle and to reveal the keyboard. At the front of the computer there are built in stereo speakers and some system indicators to show the status of the DC in, Power, Battery, built in Hard Disk drive and Diskette / CD ROM drive.
On the left of the computer there is a security lock which I use to keep it “strapped” to my desk whilst in office. There is also a fan, power connector, power button lock, PC card slot (this can accommodate two 5mm PC cards or one 10.5mm PC card, reset switch and wireless LAN switch.
On the right...
