Continental Grand Prix 4000

Advantages: Lightweight and fast, should be hard wearing...
Disadvantages: Expensive, but worth it !

...Just been for my first ride on my new Continental Grand Prix 4000 tyres, and thought I'd let you know about them. I know it's only a first use test, but will update this review when I've had them for a while. Also, I've assumed that if you're reading this, you have some interest and/or knowledge of bicycles. I hope that's OK... Continental have over 100 years experience in the development and production of road and mountain bike tyres, at the Continental Two-Wheel division's technology and development centre in Korbach in Germany. The Grand Prix 4000 road/race tyre is the sucessor to the excellent Grand Prix 3000 that I've had on my bike for 2 years or so. It's a "clincher" tyre (as opposed to a tubular tyre), so should fit most road/race wheels/rims. It was a bit of a narrow decision between these and the Continental Attack...

The Title That Got Away From This (Formula) One

Advantages: The challenge mode, battery backup, car damage, link-up?
Disadvantages: Slowdown, inferior challenge mode.

...Please note that my review and rating does not take into account the multiplayer aspect of this game. Given the attention to detail of the motorsport you can be prepared to throw realism out of the window when it comes to Formula One games for the earlier handheld consoles. However, F-1 World Grand Prix, based on the N64 version of the game*, does not lack ambition with its four game modes and battery backup allowing for 3 seperate files to be saved along with the match race records. All the courses, teams and drivers of 1998 have been represented here**. Understandably as a 2D game during play you cannot drive backwards or off the track, and the ascends and descends of a course have not been put across. There is no seperate route to the pit stop as well, instead you turn into the corresponding side as would be indicated. Yes...

The Graphics *************** The cars look almost identical to the real counterparts; you can even see the sponsors on the cars, which look good when you watch the replay mode this is when you really get to see how good the graphics are. Advantages: Realistic sim, nice touches

...This game emulates the 1997 World Grand Prix, and you'd believe it were real if it weren't for the lack of g's and wind rushing past. All the tracks from the 1997 Grand Prix are present, and are accurately simulated. You can even set up the weather to reflect the conditions from 1997, which is a nice touch. The game has the usual Practice, Time Trial etc modes, but I went straight to the Championship or Grand Prix mode. Here you are given a number of practice laps, then a qualifying session, then if you achieve a reasonable time, you are allowed onto the race itself. You can set whether you want to race the full 50 or so laps - depending on the track - or a cut down version of the race. The full race, which can involve 70 laps on some courses can get tedious, so I would recommend not going for this option unless you are a real...

It is a multi-million pound business, and now you get to be a part of it in the form of the great game, grand prix 3. Formula one games allow you to race a round the great F1 world championship tracks, allowing you to race around at top speed past great sporting landmarks, such as the fairground wheel at the japanes circuit. You can choose from any of the worlds' Formula 1 drivers, and race around in any of the formula 1 cars. The only trouble is that it requires quite a high spec PC, as its impressive visuals need a good graphics card and RAM, a good 64mb ram and a voodoo 3 should give decent results. Live out those F1 fantasies with Grand Prix 3

Advantages: Realism, graphics, fun
Disadvantages: Outdated cars and drivers

...This is a superb game. I could end the review there, but instead I'll explain my reasons: GP3 has something for everybody. The graphics are superb and the game is highly realistic, yet it is not too difficult to get into. If you want to do a full-length F1 race, then you can. If you want to have a 10 minute blast around the track, you can. If you want to go to Hockenheim and do some spectacular 180 mph crashes, then you can! The only real disadvantage that I can see is that the cars and drivers in the game are a couple of seasons out of date. That doesn't bother me much, and it is really a testament to how long the game was in development for. That long development period really shows in the quality of the game. If you like racing games, buy it! Not just for fans of F1. Requires: PII 266 or equivalent 32mb RAM 2mb...

Continental Grand Prix MTB

Advantages: Make an MTB better on road
Disadvantages: Can be hard to find. No good off road

...Continental have produced the Grand Prix tyre in mtb size. 26" x 1" It has the same tread pattern as the road tyre and is very light (c.200g) Foldable too - with a kevlar bead I rode them on my Specialised mtb over the summer on a commute (8 miles each way) and they are superb for use on the road. It is the closest to a road bike tyre that I have ever seen, is very responsive and feels fast! If you ride an mtb mostly on the road and can feel the energy sapping from your legs with big knobbly tyres, you could do far worse than get a pair of these! They seem very durable too and can be inflated to decent pressures too - I ran them at close to 100 psi They are quite rare in shops and I had to search through a few on line stores to find one that listed them and had them in stock....
