...*FAB ICE LOLLIES"
* NEW ORANGE VARIETY*
I love a bargain - don't we all !!
Expecting my three young grandchildren for a visit and hoping for good weather I was pleased to find this new variety of the old favourite, Fab lolly ices in Sainsbury's at the price of £1 for 8 ( a lot cheaper than getting them off the ice cream man!!!)
These were less than half price as the r.r.p. is £1.99, so a couple of packets went in my trolley to go in the freezer at home.
There are now three varieties of the old favourite available - the original strawberry, lime and orange; as yet I have not tried the lime and this review is about the orange variety.
Just in case some of you have been living in a time warp, the Fab lolly consists of three parts, starting with a fruit based ice lolly which goes right through...
Advantages: Keeps the kids quiet! Disadvantages: They won't let me have one!
...As the mother of two young children, there are many staple items in my cupboards, fridges and freezer.
One of these things has to be of the "ice-creamy" variety.
In all fairness my children are not proud, they will pretty much eat any ice cream or lolly, as long as it is bright, colourful and sweet anything goes!
As you may have noticed the weather has perked up rather dramatically in the last week or so, thus encouraging the kids to ask more frequently for an icy dessert, so as a treat I let them pick their own ice lollies from our local branch of Asda.
One of the selected items is the product I will now review?? FAB ICE LOLLYS.
~~~~~~ THE PACKAGING ~~~~~~
The lollies come in a long rectangular white box with the product name in large blue bubble writing emblazoned across the front, there is a large picture of a FAB lolly...
Advantages: Nostalgia, mixed crowd, relaxed atmosphere, lots to see, CHEAP! Disadvantages: A bit dark to begin with....!
...Now, I'm not one for the club scene, nor am I one for drinking, but the Fab cafe definately caught my full attention when my friends and I wanted a bit of grub near teatime.
My initial reaction on entering was "argh, I can't see anything" but then it soon turned into "argh, there's a weird monster thing stood next to me". Ha, it's alright, twas just a life size model of a scary monster thing. I got told what it was called, but the name has evaded me, but it's from Dr Who. Now, on the subject of Dr Who, any fan has got to have heard of the fab cafe already, or if not really should stand in the corner and think about what they have done - there's a DALEK! A nice big one in the corner on the left hand side as you enter! It's really cool! :D
Anyway, this place is covered from top to toe in all sorts of memorabilia from when I was...
Review of Fab Café
...Nestle Fab Ice-Lollies?
These Nestle Fab Ice-Lollies are probably my favourite ice-lolly to have in the summer or even after a good work out. They are great to have in the freezer for sugar emergencies, which in my house happens quite a lot.
The Fab lolly itself is a great design and incorporates four different sections which all have a distinctive taste and texture. This is unlike any other ice-lolly I can think of so I have nothing really to compare it with.
The top layer of the lolly is really the hundred and thousands that are sprinkled onto the tip of the lolly. These are a multitude of colours and basically are little shreds of sugar, which I have always loved. The different colours don't really make any difference in the way of taste but the texture of the hundreds and thousands is lovely and crunchy but...
Advantages: great on hot days Disadvantages: can be messy
...Nestle Fab Ice Lollies
Summer si nearly here and it really is beginning to get hot. In this heat there is nothing I like more than to be able to suck on something ice cold to chill me outside and inside. Nestle Fab ice lollies are the perfect thing for this particular craving and I must go through a good couple of dozen every summer.
I tend to buy the multi packets from Tesco or Morrison's when I do my shopping but if I am out for an afternoon stroll I may be persuaded to buy myself a single ice-lolly from the shop. The cost is pretty reasonable and I pay around 50 pence for a single ice lolly or £1.99 for a large multi packet.
They have been around for as long as I can remember and I always enjoyed eating them as a child. The thing I like most about these ice-lollies is that they have so much to offer. They are neither...
Advantages: Tasty new flavour for fabs. Disadvantages: Bit tangy, if you don't like tangy stick to strawberry.
...I am going to write about a new Fab lolly I had last night they are still fabs but orange flavour. You still get eight in a box, I paid only £1 from a local cheap freezer shop. I think they usually reatail about £1.80 for eight. You can buy these lollys at most supermarkets, maybe even your local shop.
Packaging.......
The usual carboard box but instead of white and red, its white and orange. The familiar big blue bubble writing of the word fab on the top of the box, and printed on all four sides. Along one of the sides is the ingrediants and nutritional information, but more on this later. On taking a lolly out they are wrapped in the usual way.
The lolly.........
So I tear the wrapper off in the usual fashion, like I have near eaten or seen a lolly before. On opening you get a very strong citrus smell. I love oranges so...
Advantages: Low calorie , refreshing , tasty , a bit different Disadvantages: None for me but may be a bit boring for some
...As you may or , more probably , may not know my husband works for Asda . He works in the freezer department and one of the staff perks is 10% discount on any stock . He's always coming across new things at bargain prices , before discount , which he brings home for me , the guinea pig , to try .
This week he brought home some new , well to me , Nobbly Bobbly ice lollies, which I hope I can review some time as they were lovely . He also brought home a box of one of my all-time favourites - Fab Ice Lollies by Nestle . I assume this was in case the other ones were horrible .
These Fab ice lollies retail as a box of 8 for anything from 99p to about £1.99 , depending where you shop .
They are very much a product from my childhood and one that hasn't shrunk in size or my estimation over the years ( unlike wagon wheels but we won't go...
Advantages: 2 DVD's in One! Disadvantages: One of those DVD's is a Interview Based DVD
...This WWE exclusive, the Tagged Classic, double DVD set of WWF Fab Four & WWF One Night only is a great collector?s item to any wrestling fan! It is form a time when great such as Bret Hart, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and the British Bulldog were all at the top of their game and in their prime. This is proven as they are the featured Superstars in the ?Fab Four? (? obviously short for the Fabulous Four)
The Fab Four;
IT MUST BE NOTED THAT ?WWF/WWE FAB FOUR IS NOT A PPV! It is merely a documentary of the Superstars path of accomplishments during their time in the World Wrestling Federation. Each of the Four Wrestlers in this DVD are interviewed by Oklahoma?s own Jim Ross (J.R) and are all followed with snippets of clips from the wrestlers top...
Advantages: Cheap, good food, great company Disadvantages: Can get a bad mix of people
...After reading another review of Fab cafe, I thought the oppinion of one of the "weirdos" should have their say.
The cafe is located on Portland Street in Central Manchester and 5 minutes away from the bus station in Picadilly Gardens. The big sign outside gives it's location away, as do the big silver retro doors and the kitsch 60's themes blasting out.
Depending on when you go depends on the kind of night. My personal favourite would always be on a Sunday when they play a cult movie on all the tv screens and it is open usually until about 12. It's great to go in about 7, then sample their bizarre cuisine. If you were born in the 60's, you'd be at home with the Vesta meals, but Yorkshire pud, mash, sausages and gravy goes down great with a pint! You can top that off with rice pudding and jam, or a fab ice lolly. To get this would...
