...One day when I was having lunch at Yo Sushi I got a rather frantic phone call from my partner. The washer dryer had decided to spark, smoke and set itself alight during the drying process. Once the electric was isolated the fire went out, however I was far from impressed. I didn't want to even chance getting this fixed so off I went on a search for a new washer dryer. It can be a bit of a minefield out there in kitchen appliance land with many stores offering deals on 100's of machines! Eventually I discovered a local electrical warehouse and called them direct, they soon presented a number of machines that would be suitable and at a good budget. I went straight down to have a look and came back with my new Fagor! Unpacking and Setup Rather than await delivery and take time off work for the white van man to take his time to show up...

Avoid Sainsbury's Kitchen Appliances

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Contemptuous attitude toward the customer and consumer protection laws

...Please do not order anything from Sainsbury's Kitchen Appliances. We ordered a Zanussi washing machine and are now stuck with this faulty unusable machine, even though we paid extra for fitting and testing. When the machine runs it fills our apartment with the acrid smell of burning rubber. We reported this within 24 hours of our having received delivery of the machine yet Sainsburys will not replace it without first sending out an engineer (the earliest time the engineer will get to us is a full seven days after we reported the fault) who then will submit a report to them (Sainsburys), who will then contact Zanussi. It could easily be 3 weeks or more before we have a working machine. Surely, if a machine is reported as faulty within 24 hours of delivery, it should simply be replaced. Yes. That's the law, but Sainsburys don't see...

...Really pleased with the whole process. This company wasn't the cheapest on price, partly because they don't do free delivery like some other companies (delivery cost £19.99), but they had the best reviews from other customers - much better than the companies selling it for cheaper. As you can tell from the company name, they sell kitchen appliances including dishwashers, cookers, hobs, fridges, freezers, coffee machines, washing machines and tumble dryers. We ordered a Neff Hob from them late in the evening on 8 November. The website confirmed delivery would normally be in 7 days. The confirmation email stated that someone would contact me within 48 hours to confirm the order and to arrange a suitable delivery date. Sure enough, the next day I had a phone call confirming the order and arranging a delivery date for one week...

...To be fair, i'd read the poor reviews of Trade Appliances prior to finally committing to placing my order. I was rather worried but after sitting back and thinking about it, i remembered that logically speaking, people rarely leave good reviews - on the whole. Look up reviews for any high street retailer - most of them are crap - at least 50% and if those figures were really a fair indication of what to expect - they'd all be bust. We ordered 6 appliances of Trade Kitchens - paid online - no problems. Got an email asking for a utility bill for our name and address - not a problem - we were expecting it as their website says to if like us, you want delivery to an address different to your billing address. We paid on a Sunday - after 9 working days had elsapsed we got a phone call asking if they could deliver all appliances two...

...Under no circumstances buy anything from Boots Kitchen Appliances. I bought a cooker online and was to have it delivered on a Saturday. They informed me of a 4 hour delivery slot on the previous day. It was to be delivered between 7am and 11am. I was called on 7am to inform me they were on their way. They arrived at 8am and got me out of bed. Then informed me they had a dishwasher instead of a cooker. I ask you!!! We arranged another Saturday and was informed two days before that they could not deliver. Arranged another Saturday and they did not turn up. Was not called with any explanation. On each occasion I had to compensate an electrician who I had retained to install it. I am now six weeks without a cooker and it is still ongoing. DO NOT BUY FROM BOOTS KITCHEN APPLIANCES....

Don't buy domestic appliances from Boots

...Never try to buy a domestic appliance from Boots on-line. They twice failed to provide the item ordered and offered compensation which never came. All told terrible service and hopeless customer relations. At the beginning of January I placed an order for a fridge freezer, A few days later I was phoned to say the item had been discontinued. On further checking I was told that this was not the case, but that I would have to wait three weeks for delivery. I waited; the evening before delivery was scheduled I was left a message on my mobile (not even the courtesy of a phone call to my home phone) to say the product was discontinued. Eventually I agreed to a similar (more expensive) product and Boots said they would give me a discount to compensate me. Despite regular chasing and promises this has never arrived. Awful Appliance Direct

Advantages: None. Worst retailer I have had misfortune to deal with!!!
Disadvantages: Dreadful customer service, no delivery, they take your cash and give you the runaround.

...Appliance Direct promise cheap prices and a great delivery team who deliver your item straight to your door within a four hour time window and then unpack it and place it in your home. Sounds great. Some chance! My experience with them was pure hell. They promised to deliver my washing machine on a Friday between 10am and 2pm and connect it for an extra £19.99 and when by almost 3pm they hadn't delivered I contacted them only to be given the runaround. Numerous excuses were given and I was told they'd phone me back three times and each time I had to contact them. I was promised that it would be sorted on Monday, but again I had to do the chasing.
