...Having loved ?Fantastic Mr Fox? by Roald Dahl as a child and generally being disappointed by book to film adaptations in general, I wasn?t hugely enthusiastic about going to see this film. My boyfriend was insistent, however, so I went to see it with him last night with relatively low expectations. If the film hadn?t been made by Wes Anderson, responsible for the excellent ?Darjeeling Limited? and ?The Royal Tenenbaums?, I doubt I would have been talked into going. I am very glad that I was. The Fantastic Mr Fox was one of the best films that I have seen in quite a while, and thought that it was adapted for the screen in a very beautiful and interesting way. A Fantastic Bore

Advantages: Some nice effects
Disadvantages: Lame script, They ruin Dr Doom, Incredibly stupid

...I saw Fantastic Four on its cinema release, I don't why I did but morbid curiosity got the better of me. The trailers for the movie were pretty poor and the advance word told of the movie going in a direction not faithful to the original comic book. The only thing I was intrigued by was the thought of The Shield's Vic Mackie playing The Thing. The rest of the cast were bland and Fox had chosen to give a multi-layered comic book romp to the director of Barbershop. Needless to say the final result is as expected, complete mediocrity. Right from the outset the movie believes the audience doesn't have time for story set-up or character development. Nope, instead we're right into a meeting between Victor Von Doom and Reed Richards. Fantastically lags story wise

Advantages: Some good special effects and CGI
Disadvantages: Too slow, not enough of a story, lost interest before the end

...- Introduction - Yes again this is another movie that was shown on TV and with my trusty PVR at my side I decided to record it out of interest and watch it a bit later, which I did last night. I had heard of this movie before and I have watched some similar movies, Daredevil I thought was quite good and I've seen the first 2 Spiderman movies, which I thought were ok. I remembered as a child, one of the first VHS videos my parents bought me was one that featured a Fantastic 4 cartoon, so I was somewhat familiar with the characters and I do like a good fantasy type movie every now and then, so I thought I'd give this a watch. Not Fantastic

Advantages: A nice performance from Chris Evans (no, not that one) and some good special effects
Disadvantages: Bad perfromances from the rest of the cast and lots of dodgy CGI

...I really don't know how some people get jobs in the movie business. But it's obvious that some of them are bean counters and more interested in the 'product' rather than the film. After hits like X-Men and Spiderman, the next comic book franchise open to make the big bucks was Fantastic Four. A film has been muted for many years and at one stage was actually made by Roger Corman but never released commercially. The secret of the success of the X-men and Spiderman films is that the studios hired directors with a track record of delivering good stories with a visual flair. Bryan Singer and Sam Raimi were respected directors with a decent body of work but both didn't have huge hits on their CV's at the time. But they understood the material and treated it with respect. Not Fantastic, But Four Stars (film only)

Advantages: Flashy effects, mindless fun, slight 'human' touch to storyline
Disadvantages: Not exactly original, no attempt at scientific credibility

...It seems that superhero comic-to-film adaptations have been quite the thing over the last few years, with the success of films like Spiderman and X-Men inspiring more and more. Coming along in 2005, Fantastic Four was arguably scraping the barrel to catch onto the end of the bandwagon (if you'll pardon the mixing of metaphors) and received some rather poor reviews. Personally though I have to say I quite enjoyed it. I'm not a comic book fan and the Fantastic Four are probably less famous than many other Marvel superheroes so, although I'd heard of them, I didn't really know much about them. I can't say whether the film is faithful to the original stories or not, but what we have here are four ordinary people who get caught in a cosmic storm while on a space mission, which alters their DNA giving them super powers. The Book Fantastic

Advantages: Such an addictive read

...Now I know there have already been countless review on Pratchetts work, but that only proves to me what a fabulous author this guy is. The Light Fantastic is the second book in the discworld series,second to The Colour Of Magic. Terry Pratchett's writing style is like no other, he is purely and simply a literary genius and if I was given one last book to read before I died I would choose a Discworld novel. He plays with words like Beckham plays with his balls, style, grace, and superior acuracy (pardon the pun!) Although sometimes you feel like you have missed somthing, and find yourself sometimes skimming back over things to be sure, but it always makes sense in the end so don't worry.
