Rattling the Bones by Ann Granger
Advantages: Weel written and thoughly likable sleuth
Disadvantages: plot a little weak
...Ann Granger has written 8 succesful crime novels involving Fran Varady as her amateur sleuth.
Fran Varady is a twenty-three year old unemployed Actress. Who in between jobs helps out at the Duke Detective Agency. She is a character it easy to associate with. She cares about people. And having lived rough herself has an affinity with Homeless people.
She is just walking through Camden one day, when she see 'mad Edna' a bag lady she knew when they were neighbours in a squat a few years before. She seems very agitated and quickly scurries away. Fran nottices a young man following her and she follows him. Wondering why Eden would be of any interest to anyone.
He easily gives her the slip but Fran's curiousity is aroused. After some detective work of her own she finds her old friend is staying at a hostel. She follows her...

Farley`s Rusks, not only for the young!
Advantages: A good value baby and toddler treat
Disadvantages: None
...Farley's rusks may well be made for babies and toddlers but put a packet of rusks in front of me and I wouldn't be able to resist pinching one from the packet. I cant put my finger on the attraction but there is definitely something about the smell of the rusks that is very appealing.
When my children were young rusks were considered as a luxury item, can you believe it?!
But the odd packet managed to make its way into my shopping trolley.
Now when I visit my niece she is often feeding her little one rusk in warm milk and the smell is still the very same.
So lets take a look at what is in a Farley's rusk to make them so tempting.
Farley's have packed their rusks with calcium, iron and added vitamins.
Vitamins A, B, C, D and Niacin encourage healthy growth and development and of course the calcium helps to build healthy...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

So Farley's, So Good.
Advantages: Great little snack to have when the baby gets the munchies!!
Disadvantages: Can be very messy!
...I spend quite a bit of time with my 9 month old nephew and came across these great little snacks. I remember the old style rusks with my other nephews in their mid to late teens. They were large and bulky (the rusks, that is!) and had a bland taste to them, not so with these.
The product is obviously not a substitute for a good meal but is great to have at the bottom of the pushchair if you are out and about and the baby wants a snack.
-Price and Availability -
We got these from Tesco's but I presume that most supermarkets will sell them.
You get 4 packs of 30g with 6 biscuits in each pack for 1.20 which works out at a bargain price of half a penny per biscuit.
- Contents, Age Range etc-
As I have already stated you get 6 rusks in each packet. These are approx 5 cm x 5cm and 2cm deep at the fattest point.

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

So farley so good
Advantages: Great if you're in a hurry, quick and easy to prepare
Disadvantages: Works out expensive
...Life can be pretty hectic at times in our house, particularly in the mornings as I have a 5-year old at school and a 5 month old baby. Breakfast can be a bit of a rush at times, but thanks to Farleys, life can be a bit easier.
As my baby is in the process of weaning, I try to be ultra-organised and prepare my own baby food, made from fruit and vegetables, and freeze it in batches. However, sometimes when my baby is hungry, I find Farley's is great as a backup.
There are many varieties to choose from, for breakfast, lunch and tea. Probably like most babies the puddings are a favourite as the savoury ones can seem a bit bland. Saying that though, my baby likes the cauliflower and brocolli cheese.
A packet of farleys costs in the region of £1.75 and if your baby is anything like mine with a healthy appetite this could work...

farleys follow on milk
Advantages: easy to follow instructions on the back.
Disadvantages: none that i found (yet anyway)
...I have used farley's for all my children and have found it to be really good, its in the shops for £4.99 or £8.99 for 2 this is at asda, you can by it from any chemist or supermarket.
There are three different types to suit your own baby.
1) Farley's first - which is for any baby that's not being breast fed, or can be used while you are breastfeeding. This can be used from birth through to 1yr.
2) Farley's second - which is for the hungrier babies. This can be used from birth through to 1yr.
3) Farley's follow-on - this contains iron, calcium, vitamins and minerals. This is more like cows milk and is only suitable for babies at 6mths up and over 2yrs.
It contains iron and vitamin C for the growth and development.
Calcium and vitamin C to strengthen bones and teeth.
Zinc, beta-carotene and vitamin A which helps...

Who's mixing with murder
Advantages: Realistic and well told story
Disadvantages: none, but the book did fall apart in my hands!!
...Background:
I was freezing the other day looking round the local Car Boot Sale when I discovered this book. It was in a large box of unwanted and generally tatty novels, and while fishing around in it I pulled out this one. I read the introduction and was impressed and when the seller told me I could have it for just 10p I knew I was onto a winner.
About the author:
Ann Granger has been writing suspense/thriller novels for many years. In that time she has built up a moderate fan base. The book I am reviewing features Fran Varady as a Private Investigator. The author was born in 1939 and had travelled extensively and worked in the foreign office.
About the book:
Fran Varady is an unemployed actress; at 23 she is still waiting for her first big break. While waiting for this she tries her hand at being...

Death by drowning
Advantages: Amusing, easy to read, surprising ending
Disadvantages: Too many coincidences, slightly annoying main character
...at Mickey's club. Confused, she is interviewed by the police, but is unable to shed any light on the death, although she is secretly convinced that Lisa had something to do with it. Can she find the murderer and return Lisa to Mickey before something happens to her dog?
I've read a couple of books by Ann Granger before, although not any in the Fran Varady series. Ann Granger writes another series featuring police detetives Mitchell and Markby, which are very much in the cosy traditional English village style of crime fiction. This series is quite different; Fran is from London and frequently mixes with London's low-life. The types of crimes that she deals with tend to be slightly less cosy as well.
As a character, I took a fairly instant dislike to Fran. She has had a hard life and for the last few years, has had to look after herself...
