The Farmhouse, Morzine

...What a fabulous place! When I saw this place on the web site www.thefarmhouse.co.uk it looked quaint and romantic, but the web site cannot do it justice! We were collected from Geneva Airport in a smart minibus with a really friendly, chatty driver - Harry. The hour and 15 minute drive to Morzine passed quickly as he gave us tips on where best to ski and where the biggest lift queues were likely to be. Morzine was just a described, a lovely picturesque place, completely unlike some of the high rise type of resorts that we had previously visited in France. When we got to The Farmhouse, our initial thought was "This looks a bit old" which of course - it is as we found out, it is the oldest building in the village. ...Now that real ale is well and truly recognised I suggest the next campaign is to support Genuine Farmhouse Butters. Most of the butters on sale in the UK are bland factory blends made from pasteurised milk pooled from hundreds of anonymous farms across the counties. We have all grown to be choosy when choosing bread, honey, olive oils and wines for special occasions so why not be choosy when selecting your butter. Butters are so diverse in their flavour it seems a shame to keep using the same brand or the cheapest every day of the year. Fluted pats, thinly shaved curls and butterballs criss cross-hatched are all well worth reviving. They give the serving of butter a real sense of occasion. It is always a fine treat to partake in a slice of real bread and freshly made butter with a glass of fine real ale or beer to wash it down...

...Oh I love this. I'm sorry but really I do. My son is just so cute when he plays with this and it's given him hours and hours of entertainment since I bought it for him just before Christmas. Why just before Christmas and not on the big day? Well Babies R Us offered a fantastical deal that meant when you bought any two Bruin toys you could get a third one free! Fantastic stuff; especially considering how cheap these toys already are compared to a lot of the brand name toys on the market. With Bruin I always say you get good value for money and a well-thought out and stimulating toy for your child but with the Discovery Farmhouse I think they really excelled themselves. The easiest way to get there is to use a satnav, as the cottage is difficult to find when you are just using directions from a route finder. The post code for the satnav is DG2 8RP. If like me you are unlucky enough not to have a satnav then you?ll find the area located between Dumfries and Castle Douglas, you need to follow the A75, but this is where is gets difficult, because the actual cottage is located about half a mile up an unmarked track. Notta Lotta Dough for Warburton's Farmhouse Loaf

I've tried so called 'value' bread but it always ends up getting given to the ducks, it feels stale when I first buy it, so that is false economy. As we get through more than one loaf a day ( more if the hungry ducks have their way!!) I do try to find as reasonable priced bread as I can. While shopping in my local Booth's supermarket I noticed that they had Warburton's Farmhouse Soft White thick sliced loaves for £1 a loaf. Which with today's prices is pretty good!! Warming, filling and very tasty

Advantages: Easy and quick to make and a tasty addition to soups and casseroles
Disadvantages: More expensive than buying the raw ingredients

In my case it is quite simple, although I do love dumplings they are something of an indulgence and one which probably wouldn't help my weight so if I buy a whole box of suet I will be making loads of them to avoid wasting the suet whereas the packet mix will make about 8 dumplings for 35p so I can have a treat without being tempted to keep repeating it. The Farmhouse Dumplings pack contains the suet and flour pre-mixed so that all you need to do is to empty the contents into a bowl and add 75ml of water. Once you have mixed in the water, using floured hands form it into balls and place in your casserole and cook for 20-30 minutes. Now I find that eight dumplings at one sitting is rather more than I can contemplate so the added attraction to this pack is you can just mix part of it with the requisite water and make a smaller...

Disadvantages: Not suitable for All

...It is now coming to the time of year when what I feed the family changes, out goes the light and lean and in comes hearty and comfort, dishes such as casseroles, mashed potatoes, cottage pies, braised oxtail and Dumplings !. I usually do make my own from scratch, but this sometimes proves a problem if I have fed the box of suet to the sweet little robbin who sits on the bird table and seems to stare at me through the kitchen window. This is why I keep a couple of these Goldenfry, farmhouse style dumpling mix in the pantry. It comes in a carbboard box, the inner contents are sealed in a strong paper type packet. At 35p for a 142g box, it's not bad value for money unless you compare it to the price of a box of suet 95p for 250g where you could make 5 times as many dumplings, of course you would need to add your own self raising...

Well, it?s a big factory of course now, but there are some wonderful smells emanating from the building early each morning. My favourite loaf is the white one, and I usually go for the ?Soft white farmhouse? ? it looks like ordinary sliced bread, fairly medium-to-thick slices, and ideal for toast. ...I used to live in Guernsey for 7 years and still go over now, I have never stayed at The Farmhouse myself but my grandparents have they said that the accomodation was A*, plus very clean, apparently made them feel like royalty. The Famhouse's food is absolutely fabulous, very wide range, from home made curry, to fish dishes, massive burgers and vegetarian. The survice is very quick and efficient. Everytime i've been there they have had a music artist singing and playing the piano which finishes off the evening perfectly. From wedding receptions to a family meal out or a weeks holiday the farmhouse has everything you need plus an amazing pool followed by a maze of a garden. Absolutely gorgeous place, the only down side is that its not for the scenic people. Would advise this for anyone :] Family friendly. The perfect...
