The Farmhouse, Morzine

Advantages: location, food, quality of accomodation, friendliness of staff
Disadvantages: none

...don't know and the conversation is usually lively. I sat next to him (due to an odd number of dinner guests) and was entertained by his easy chat and style (and of course an outstanding dinner). A most interesting man who has run The Farmhouse for about 15 years now and has taken it from a fairly ordinary chalet type of experience to one that is, in my opinion, hard to beat. We enjoyed a great week's skiing in a wonderful town and had the pleasure of staying with Dorrien and his excellent staff in the beautiful Farmhouse. The best bits were the food, The Farmhouse, Dorrien and the skiing. About all we could wish for really - we will be going back! ...What! Only 10 foods? Of all the MILLIONS/ BILLIONS of food products out there we can only pick 10? Well, I suppose you'd get bored by my 100th or so one..or tenth... In no particular order; let's begin 1. Fish -Smoked Haddock, Salmon, Cod, sea bass or tuna. Haddock is delcious in a pitta bread with scrambled egg or haselback potatoes. Salmon fillet is divine if you top it with mayo, crushed seasoned cornflakes with garlic and then drizzled with a cheese sauce. Smoked salmon slices mixed into mash with cheese spread! emm. And tuna, mix it with onion and some chutney to get fish fruity. Make your own fish pie or chop it up into an omelete. Fish is sooo nutritional, versatile and delcious. Not a fan of sardines, herring; trout and the lark, or with heads and eyes still on! Prawns - league of there own. Nice just out the pack...

...Orijen cat and Kitten Dry Food: The last time I was browsing round the Zooplus website I noticed some ?Orijen? dry cat food which said it was suitable for adult cats and kittens of all breeds and that is was supposed to be exceptionally good for your cats health. ...I love my gadgets and I am a complete sucker for the TV shopping channels so when I saw that JML had got their own channel I couldn't resist watching it one wet afternoon recently. They were doing a demonstration of the JML Vacuum Food Sealer and I was intrigued as I sat and watched. Basically it is a very simple machine which will either vacuum seal food into polythene bags or just seal (without vacuum). It looked pretty simple and effective and they were demonstrating a range of uses for it. Given that I cook a lot of meals for one and often 'batch cook' and weekends and make my own home made ready meals for one which I freeze down this looked like quite a useful machine. ...Cool Food is a very attractive little book, it has a very pretty aqua blue spine, and the front cover has a lovely looking tuna salad on. The book is only small, 18 cm tall by 15 cm wide, but it's a thick book (400 pages in all). I like cooking, and for a while found cook books hard to resist. I fell in love with this book in Sainsburys of all places, but once I got it home the love affair dwindled. The book is divided into Starters Mains Sides Sweets Drinks Index I like the fact that there is quite a large chapter on drinks, very few books are so comprehensive in this respect. The majority of the drinks are non-alcoholic which is great for families with kids, although I'd have quite liked either a section on cocktails as this book has a lot of ideas that are great for entertaining, or suggestions by the drinks of 'you could replace...

  Food glorious Food!

Advantages: Reasonably priced foodie magazine with lots of useful recipes
Disadvantages: Don't want to throw them away! Might put on weight if not followed wisely!

...Presents should be something the recipient would like and not just what the sender would like to receive! Although in the case of the present I am going to review it was something both parties enjoyed! My daughter and son-in-law gave me a subscription to BBC Good Food. Now she might have left home, but they do frequently come for dinner and so like to have something different to eat. This was a truly wonderful gift, the results of which have been enjoyed by my family and friends. Good Food magazine gives me lots of ideas as well as providing me with a magazine I can browse through ?to my hearts content?. That expression leads me on to say, that you can look after your heart and cook exciting meals as the recipes are all under descriptive headings! FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!!!

Disadvantages: Some unhealthy food...

...In no specific order... 1. Pasta - I love Italian food, and pasta always fills me up. I usually have it for dinner at least twice a week. Sometimes I get bored of it though, even though its my favourite food, but its best to experiment with different sauces. I prefer tomato ones though... in my opinion, cheese sauce is disgusting eww. 2. Crisps - whoever invented crisps is a legend!!! I always have a packet everyday, because they fill me up whenever I'm hungry. My favourite flavour is Salt and Vinegar. I used to like Worcester Sauce too, but they stopped making that. :( Walkers clearly rules, but so does McCoys even though this brand is high in fat. 3. Chocolate - Cadburys also clearly rules! I also like Nestle for some reason. Not too sure about white chocolate, but love milk chocolate and dark but it can taste slightly bitter...
