Sun, Sea And Sand.
Advantages: Cheap, endless entertainment, friendly people.
Disadvantages: Be careful not to get burnt.
...It's been a while since I wrote a review and I suppose I've set my standards high writing a holiday review.
The last time I went to Portugal was also the 1st time I'd ever been, but it certainly won't be the last. Looking back it is about 4 years ago now and I haven't been abroad for 4 years, but I would definitely consider Faro, Portugal to return to.
I went with my ex fiancé and had a ball. The place we stayed was Olhas D Aguas.
Everything in Portugal is low priced compared to the UK. They don't believe in measuring drinks either no they just pour a generous measure in and the cocktail bars are plenty.
Faro has in excess of 58.000 people. My aunty has recently moved over there with her husband so you can add another 2 to that number.
The old part of the city is surrounded by Roman walls and is very beautiful...

Makes your eyes water
Advantages: Cheap duty free
Disadvantages: not very clean
...I recently travelled to Alvor in the Algarve and had the doubtful pleasure of going through Faro Airport.
Judging by my impression of Faro airport, I'm glad I was staying in another town!
My breath was really taken away just five minutes after we landed. The toilets had a distinct aroma of p*** They looked clean but the strong smell was enough to make your eyes water.
Anyway, enough of that! Faro really comes into it's own when you go back for your return flight. The toilets had a distinct aroma of Zoflora, or some equally strong floral disinfectant, which had clearly been used to cover up the other aromas. I found them by using my sense of smell as the signs in the airport were very confusing.
The coach pulled up at one end of the departure lounges and we had to walk a hundred yards to get a luggage trolley. The first...

There is more to Portugal than the Algarve - visit Lisbon
Advantages: Easy to get around and different quirky places to visit, everyone speaks English
Disadvantages: The City seems a bit 'faded glory'- places uncared for and tired
...what we would see on the way going across the Serra do Caldeirao and which regions we would pass through and then as it was early she said she would be quiet until nearer Lisbon.
As we approached Lisbon she told us about the toll on the A22 and the various industries approaching Lisbon and the fact that we would go into Lisbon over the April 25th Bridge and see the huge statue of Christo Rei which is a bit like the Corcovado in Rio and overlooks the city of Lisbon from a great height. This bridge was the first to cross the Tejo and was originally called Saladar Bridge until the coup overthrew the Fascist dictator Saladar in 1974 and Portugal became a democratic Republic. The Portuguese are justifiably proud of this bridge and liken it to the Golden Gate bridge of San Francisco which is does resemble to be fair.
We drove over the bridge...

Portugal's Costa do Sol
Advantages: A Stretch of Coastline with Villas and Architecture from a Ggolden Era
Disadvantages: None
...Estoril and its coastline has always been a favourite getaway for me especially when I worked in Lisbon and still to this day is somewhere I love to visit even though the area has changed a great deal with time. When I first visited Portugal's Cost do Sol over 20 years ago the area had what I can only describe as a 'Miss Faversham look.' It was run down and jaded around the edges. Beautiful villas had been left to decay when their owners fled during the Revolution. I remember walking through private lanes looking at these beautiful ornate buildings with windows broken, overgrown gardens and gates falling off their hinges. Gypsies had taken refuge in many a property, children playing in the streets while scrawny cats jumped into turned over bins. Even though there was a sadness to the area part of the resort had enormous charm and made...

Graceful Portugal
Advantages: Relaxing, hot, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: very steep streets, mad drivers
...I went on my first holiday aboard in 20yrs last year, with my sister, her husband, and their family - to Portugal, we stayed in an apartment complex a few miles out of Lagos -
We were only there for a week and had a day trip into Lagos - we caught the local bus, which was air conditioned, but was a bit rickerty, the journey took us about 40mins, through very narrow streets in places. At one point we thought the bus would not make it, but it limped and got us there. It cost us the equivalent of £2.00 each on the bus.
Once there the main highway boarding along the coast and the marina is very wide and very busy, there are many crossing along the road, which you can us to cross safely and go into the town.
We walked along the front, where you go to many little coves and swim in the sea - which is the most beautiful blue. One...

Great place to relax & unwind
Advantages: Hardly ever rains
Disadvantages: Hardly ever rains
...Earlier this year I visited Portugal, landing in Faro and staying approximately 20 miles from Faro in a small town near Loule.
The main tourist occupation would seem to be golf as there are golfing parks everywhere, however if you visit the local towns you will find a variety of other things to occupy your time.
At the time of my holiday the Loule 2000 carnival was in full swing, a lot of time and effort was put into the costumes and floats and they where very impressive. The atmosphere was wonderful.
The time of my holiday was in March 2000, the weather was wonderful the temperature averaging in the 70's. There are a lot of English living in this area of Portugal, but when you do come across a local, they are usually very friendly.
I visited many places during my short stay, Prair da Rocha, Albufeira, Vilamoura, loule...

The Monaco Hotel Faro
Advantages: close to airport and inexpensive
Disadvantages: some aircraft noise
...at very reasonable prices.
The area af montenegro has many local shops bars and restaurants within a short walking distance from the monaco and the Forum algarve shopping center is only a short taxi ride.
The Monaco is a perfect base for exploring Faro and is particularly ideal for those long weekend shopping or sightseeing trips and for business travel.
Pre-book for special offers but if you do just walk in and book a room negotiate............I have never yet paid the list price!!!

Portugal Revised
Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above
...After some helpful suggestions, I decided to do this opinion on the town in Portugal I went to, Lagos.
Lagos is on the western end of the Algarve, about 100km from Faro, and it is one of the most historical places in Portugal.
On the front, there is a huge statue of Henry the Navigator, possibly Portugal's biggest hero, but you can find a much stranger statue in the centre. It is supposed to resemble a spaceman, although it is actually a statue of a 15 year old king, and it is a very controversial statue, because this king led Portugal to a disastrous defeat in Morocco, but he made Lagos the capital of the Algarve, which earned him this statue.
The town today is one of the least built up in the Algarve, probably because it does not actually have its own beach. To the west, there are alot of smaller beaches, and not much building...

My favourite riding boots, Harry Hall Faro.
Advantages: Comfortable.
Disadvantages: Sole coming away.
...I ride most days at least once and I have a variety of riding boots, both short and long. I have had some Harry Hall Faro riding boots for about 18 months now and I have round them really comfortable to ride in. I use them most of the time.
Harry Hall Ladies Faro Boots.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
The boots are available in brown or black, mine are black. They are constructed from waterproof leather, almost with the appearance of moleskin. The sole is vibram whatever that is, it is a thick rubber type sole offering good grip. The boots have a long zip at the back which is easy to undo and do up. It also has an adjustable fastening above the zip. The calf has an elasticated insert making it suitable for a variety of calf fittings, especially medium to wide.
Harry Hall Faro Boots cost around £84...

Faro Airport
Advantages: large
Disadvantages: dirty, unimpressive new terminal
...Sorry about the category, but it actually means Faro airport. Which is run by ANA. I dont know why they put 'Aeropeurtos de Portugal'. But hey!
Well, the airport was visited by the ****family on their 2003 holiday to Portugal. (That is my family by the way but I dont give out my second name on the net!)
~~~~~~~HOW DOES IT LOOK?~~~~~
Horrible. Dated tiles make up pictures of palm trees etc...you know the type. Inside the building is painted a dingy purple and yellow, and the place is not well lit at all.
There were cigarette ends on the floor with various other bits of rubbish and bottles The airport is not well signed and its hard to find your way around.
~~~~~SHOPPING FACILITIES~~~~~~
The usual duty-free type shops are present at Faro, but a Toblorone was about £2 more expensive than in our local Safeway.
Ther was...
