Advantages: brilliant family film with comedy and romance
Disadvantages: should make one from someone elses point of view as well

...We were in the car on the way back home from Disney, as well as having my cousin's wedding the following day and me and my sisters were getting rather bored in the car. We decided to watch a DVD using our portable DVD player and after a lot of arguing over which one to watch we chose this (which was rather fitting as we had a wedding the following). It was a great choice of DVD as it such an enjoyable and funny film with great acting and a great cast which comes together to make this film Father of The Bride not only original and a great watch but also really suitable for all the family and anyone of all ages. The plot: The general idea of this film is about a wedding and in an original and rather unique way it shows the wedding from the perspective of the father of the bride (played by Steve Martin). Advantages: Brilliant Family Film
Disadvantages: None that i can think of

...I am writing my review based on the film "Father of the Bride", an absolutely amazing film, which always picks me up and makes me smile, its one of those father and daughter films. It has the brilliant Steve Martin (plays George Banks), an exceptional actor in my eyes, I think he is fantastic in this film and along with the "Father of the Bride 2". Along side Steve Martin is Diane Keaton (Nina Banks) who plays his wife, together they play the "Parenting Role" quite well. The Banks are a middle class family with 2 children, daughter Annie and son Matty, there daughter whose 21 brings home her new boyfriend?well fiancé (Brian MacKenzie), who is upper class from the Banks and is loaded? It is hard for George to think of his daughter growing up and being a woman who is about to get married! You see flashbacks of Annie growing up with her...

...This remake of the 1950 film which originally starred Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracey, now stars Steve Martin as George Banks, father of Annie (Kimberley Williams). Annie and George have a close father-daughter relationship and he is over the moon when she returns from 6 months abroad. Sitting at the dinner table on her first night back, she announces that she has met someone and they are getting married. While her mother (Diane Keaton) is pleased for her, all George can see is his daughter as a small girl announcing her engagement. The film focuses on all the work involved in planning a wedding, but focuses it on how the father of the bride sees it. Weddings are expensive, just ask the Banks

Advantages: Good family comedy
Disadvantages: a bit over sentimental

...this film is about letting your kids grow up. As shown by the character of George Banks, you can't expect your children to remain as your babies for the rest of their lives but you have to let them spread their wings and the fly the nest. Even if you don't necessarily agree with their choices, you've got to let them learn from their own mistakes. Not an easy thing to do, but none the less, you have to do it. = Conclusion & Rating = Father of the Bride is one of those films you just can't stop yourself from enjoying. Although the storyline is predictable and overly sentimental, it's still fun and has you laughing through out its duration. Part of its charm comes from its innocence and that is why it is such a good family film. No matter what your age, there is something for everyone in this film...

Here Comes the Brides!!

Advantages: good story and acting, some good songs
Disadvantages: very bad backdrops!

...and I much preferred her taking the role of the mother. The film was set way back in the 1890?s in America and I think that the settings and scenery for the film were all very suitable but the one problem with this film was the backdrops. They were truly awful and at one point when the brothers were giving us a song in the snow the backdrop was so clearly painted and hung behind them, it did actually make me laugh. Also the shots when they were travelling on the horse and cart through the mountains was bad and noticeably added at a later date. These bad effects can be forgiven though as the film was made in 1954 when they did not have all the technology which is widely available now. After reading this book, I can understand, to a certain extent anyway, the desperate plight of fathers, who through no fault of their own, find themselves deprived of their children by both their ex-partner and the authorities. It really did make me question the justice of the law, which really does seem to favour the mother, regardless of the circumstances.
