Advantages: ... it's a fax machine Disadvantages: EVERYTHING
...I warn my readers that this could be a raging review since I just threw this fax machine into the bin.
Not only it costed me more than £30 two years ago but for the little times I've needed it it hardly worked properly. This morning I was trying to send a fax and the paper kept jamming into the rolls... but let's proceed in order.
This Olivetti Fax-Lab is one of those product that you always see in offer (and for a reason), a couple of years ago they costed even up to £60-£70 but I found mine with a 40% discount so, since I often needed to fax documents and stuff like that, I bought it without second thoughts
Later on I found out that I didn't need to fax documents SO often to justify purchasing a fax machine but still, it has been useful sometimes. But most of the times it was dreadful (read problems later on)
THE MACHINE...
Advantages: Free fax number, no need to have a dedicated fax line Disadvantages: None
...eFax.com is definately the best free fax to e-mail service around today.
I presently have two free fax numbers with them. One is a USA fax number and one is a UK fax number.
Since I do business with some companies in the States it works out cheaper for them to send me faxes on a local USA fax number.
They are incredibly fast. Just to test it out I sent a fax to my own number and checked my e-mail after just 30 seconds and presto it was in my Inbox.
It's really easy to download the viewer from their site.
Another plus point is that you can send this fax as an e-mail to others or save as a file just at the click of a button.
If the person your sending the fax to my e-mail has the software then you send the message as it is. If they don't then you send it with the viewer. It gives you both options.
They have many...

Review of eFax
Advantages: Free - Easy - Quick - Reliable Disadvantages: Requires a 380k download to read faxes
...Believe it or not, there are still people out there who use fax machines and do not have email! What do you do when someone insists on sending you a fax – dust off your old fax machine, plug it in and hope it still works? Not any more; there is a free alternative that allows you to receive faxes direct to your email box.
eFax.com give users a FREE 0870 (Normal national rate) fax number; faxes are sent directly to any email address you nominate. The file arrives – normally within a couple of minutes of having been sent - as an attachment in .efx format and with each A4 page being only around 15K it takes seconds to download. The quality is better than on a normal fax machine.
Using the simple eFax Messenger software (380k free download), the fax can be read on screen or printed out to hard copy – no more...

Review of eFax
Advantages: Great service... and still FREE! Disadvantages: Need to use a proprietary viewer program
...Faxes may be on the way out but they?re not gone yet. If you want to receive the occasional fax but don't want to waste money on a fax machine that will stand idle for months then the solution is fax to email.
How does fax to email work?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The basic idea is that a service provider (in this case eFax.com) supplies a telephone number for your incoming faxes. These are received by eFax and then forwarded to you as an email attachment. As well as the obvious advantage of not needing to buy a fax machine this also means that you don?t need to pay for a dedicated fax line and you can receive your faxes anywhere you can collect your emails (almost ? see a bit later).
And what does that cost?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
eFax.com offer a number of differently priced services depending on the telephone number required...

Review of eFax
...Yes, its really true. If you have an e-mail account you can also benefit from a fax facility.
All you need to do is sign up with www.yac.com. They will give you a free number - starting 0709 - (and which can also be used for voice calls and an answering service) which can be used for faxes. Your received faxes are sent on to you by e-mail and appear in a .tif file for you to save or print.
The cost of sending faxes is not too high - about the same as calling a mobile phone so it is not prohibitive.
One of the real beauties is that your fax is available 24/7/365 - no need for an extra line!
If you have a fax driver for your PC's modem and a scanner you can completely dispense with the need for a fax machine.
I have used the system for several months now and have found it to be excellent.
Is this the end...

...The Brother FAX-1560 is an inkjet fax machine with an integrated telephone as well as an answering machine. The use of inkjet technology means that your received fax documents will be of high quality, but will not be waterproof like all inkjet technology using devices. Other technologies are also put into practice on this fax machine, one technological advantage is the transmission of super fine details and the auto-correctness of errors that occur during transmission. Another advantage is the Fax machines ability to reduce long documents to A4 size.
The on-board modem delivers a 14,400 bps(bits per second) transfer speed, which converts to 14 kbps (kilo-bits per second). Which does not seem a lot, but is sufficient enough to transfer the required data. This is because all fax machines as well as this one convert documents into...

Review of Brother FAX-1560
Advantages: A fantastic and FREE service. Very useful. Disadvantages: None, I really like it!
...I have been using the FREE fax receiving service for the last 12 months and now can confidently recommend their service to friends, colleagues and CiAO readers too.
I am talking about efax.com not to be confused with efax.co.uk who would appear to charge for a similar service. With efax.com you can register for a 0870 (national rate) number and associate it with your email address.
efax.com also provide some pretty neat viewing software to download, small in size too. But of course this does mean that inbound faxes can only be read with their software, however I have no problem with this.
When you receive an fax it appears as an email with an efax attachment, the reader software contains a micro advert on the splash page. All very usable, indeed I rarely receive faxes on the fax machine now.
The biggest advantage is being...

Review of eFax
Advantages: Sometimes works Disadvantages: Not reliable and very expensive, appaling customer service
...You pay a subscription (about £30 a year) and are given an 0870 fax number, any faxes sent to this are converted to email and forwarded to you. OK the caller has to pay an inflated call rate (about 9p minute) for the 0870 number but it's cheaper for you than a dedicated line.
Have been using the service for a couple of years when it was efax.co.uk and it worked well. The UK operation was sold to Efax.com in the States earlier this year and service is now awful. Calls to the 0870 number are often unobtainable, if you use the service to send a fax from their website the calls that cost a few pence now cost a £1 a minute as they are sent from the US at international rates (and then some).
The "customer services department" acknowledge email but never reply.
They also have a service that provides an ansaphone to email service...

Review of eFax.com
Advantages: Reliable brand, good after sale service Disadvantages: Large amount of room taken up
...I haven?t been around that much lately, to share with you the benefit of my vast consumer experiences, although I do try and read and rate every few days, especially in the Telecommunications Category. And the other day, I noticed a little link inviting people to write about their Fax machines and so here I am once again.
Now I must admit, I was caught off guard just a little bit by this CIAO request. I mean, in this WWW era of broadband and 512Mbs speeds and email being a common communication tool, even for the residential user, does anyone still use a Fax Machine regularly?
Hmm, I thought not.
However, there is always someone with a need to be fulfilled (I always knew I should have gone into Marketing), and therefore I decided to proceed with the submission of this opinion.
The first problem I encountered when trying to...
