Inspiring and good natured the Fazer can cruise along happily at most speeds with descent mid range power allowing the more sedate rider to enjoy good pull from the lower end of the revs but the old Thundercat 600 4 cylinder still offers a fairly quick motor above 7k on the analogue dials for the quicker riders. Other characteristics of the motor are reasonable levels of viabration even at high revs and seemingly bomb proof mechanics. (So Far!) The gear box is ok but not perfect with a particularly knotchy change in the lower gears, minly with 1st and 2nd around the neutral gear I guess. Apparently thats normal for the box though and doesn't cause...

fazer 600

Advantages: superb handling. decent riding position.
Disadvantages: corrosion

...bought a fazer 600 as a first bike almost five year ago. Have since ridden almost 40,000 miles in all weathers inc. a trip to the Isle of Man TT races in 2003. This machine is an ideal first bike, excellent in cornering, good brakes and can be forgiving when slight mistakes are made. it's handling makes it superb on all roads including filtering through heavy traffic in town. it is also quite comfortable cruising along the motorway, with a good riding position and a good view from the mirrors. As with any bike it needs regular servicing the main points being the chain and brakes, which if not looked after will wear quite quickly. yamahas are prone to corrosion and after five years of punishment I have had to replace the down pipes of the exhaust and the front brake calipers. Therefore I recommend regular cleaning and polishing...

Yamaha Fazer 600

Advantages: Nimble,lightweight commuter,good engine & Brakes.
Disadvantages: Poor headlights as standard,weak built quality.

Great 1st Road Bike for early Mid-Life Crisis

...I've wanted a bike for ages, used to ride scramblers as a teenager but never got around to getting one on the road till last year. It was simple really, wife has a baby and I decide to get a bike (and rid myself of disappointing Golf GTi in the process - see separate opinion!). I spent about 2 months doing my CBT then Direct Access training, all the while looking at the magazines and wandering around the local showrooms, my first intention was to get a Suzuki SV650S, great looking bike, but at just over 6ft tall maybe a little small for me. It was the magazine reviews and the suggestion of my instructor that the Fazer would suit me best, and after a quick test ride I was sold. Its Good To Be Back - to Biking

Advantages: Good performance/handling

...My last bike was 10 years ago, a Honda VF500. That was a v4 four stroke and reasonably powerfull at the time. I had to sell to buy a house and regretted it just about every day since then. Last year I remembered a 15 year old insurance policy and thought I'd find out what it was worth. When I found out it was enough for a new bike and change, that was it, policy cashed - ker-ching. I used uk.rec.motorcycles to get some idea of what bike to get, and of course all the bike mags. Originally I was thinking of a GPZ500 (cheapish to run, not too powerfull) but when I tried one out it was a bit too small for me (6' 2). The Fazer kept coming out top of the bike mags Hooligan 600 group tests, and when I found I could get one for just £500 more than a GPZ500 that was it, Bike ordered! Getting back aboard was no problem, just like falling...

A Non-Internet Forum

Advantages: Lots of different shops, helpful staff
Disadvantages: None

...The Forum is a shopping centre in the middle of Helsinki. It's only a few hundred metres from another shopping centre, Kammpi, which also houses the bus station and a metro stop. You'd think that two large shopping centres might struggle so close together, but both seem to be thriving. The Forum is built on several floors and has what you'd expect of a shopping centre: a lot of shops. Most of them are clothes shops, generally aiming at the teenage/early twenties market. So, like a lot of UK shopping centres in that respect. Wandering round, you'll see a few shops with familiar names. I spotted a H&M in there and the inevitable McDonalds. There are cafes and food shops as well. I had a very nice (only slightly expensive) sandwich from the Fazer café. There is plenty of choice of what to eat, whether you want a stylish sandwich...

My Saviour

Advantages: Great confidence booster, nippy, good for touring, great for short riders

...My little ER5 has been my saving grace. I passed my motorbike test on this great little bike, despite falling off it 10 minutes before my test (hit a curb on my practice -u-turn). After passing my test i went to purchase my first motorcycle, i was dead excited and explained what i wanted to my local yamaha dealer, and they showed my the fazer 600. I sat on the bike and being 5"3 could just reach the floor. I asked if not having flat feet on the floor would be a problem and they said no i would be fine and i stupidly bought the bike. After falling off three times in 6 months i had, had enough and wanted to change the bike and i was advised to get an ER5 because i knew the bike and was comfortable on it. I lost around £1500 pounds on the fazer and am still begrudgingly paying it back now. I picked up my ER5, a little black number...

Great confidence inspiring rubber you can trust

Advantages: Look ok, not to expensive, good feel and turning.
Disadvantages: Might not be great for really fast riders.

...First off I know how much stick Michelin have had over their performance the MotoGP! I am glad to report that I have not had such poor results from my Michelin Pilot Road tyres fitted to my trusty Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. I had these rubber boots fitted in replacement for the recommended Bridgestones that the bike was fitted with from new. I didn't really like the feel of the earlier tyres with the turn in quite sharp and at lean I didn't feel quite at ease on them. So I asked around and was told that the Michelin's should suit the way I ride with a nice gently turn into the corners and good even grip across the profile no matter what sort of angle. I have to say I haven't been dissapointed with them so far. So far I have covered about 2,000 miles on a set of these rubbers and they show only the slightest signs of wear on the rear as...
