Fender Classic '50s Stratocaster

Advantages: Superb Neck
Disadvantages: Single Ply Scratchplate

...about Mexican Fenders but I have no complaints about any of the components here nor the craftsmanship. There were no loose parts and the gloss finish on the neck is perfect. The vintage tuners in particular are very good. Fair enough, I had to spend half an hour setting the intonation and getting the action set to my preferred height but that would be true of most guitars. It also pays dividends to experiment with pickup heights to achieve "that" sound and get things balanced. Close examination did reveal a slightly less than perfectly even finish on the polyester paint but that's only when you keep tilting your head close up. I am nit picking here. The one thing I really didn't like about the guitar was the single ply white scratchplate. Although this replicates the original '50s model I thought it looked very cheap (it was also only...

Fender standard jazz!

Advantages: Very versatile, excellent quality
Disadvantages: More expensive than the standard precision

...guitar store will fix this if you can't do it yourself. Again like most fenders there is hardlty any difference between american and mexican guitars. I tried both and seemed a waste to spend double the amount when there was not much difference. It is a lot better than the squire bass though. I used to own a fender standard precision bass but the jazz completely beats that, being a lot more versatile and easier to play i prefer it, but still make sure you try both out! Mine is midnight wine with white pickguard, rosewood neck, and it is lovely, so give it a go and see what you think!...

Advantages: Great looks, decent volume

...'t suit everyone's needs. I managed to get a great grungy tone out of it. The distortion channel (as with many other solid-state amps I have seen) hums quite a lot. This isn't really a problem when playing live, but for recording is a bit of a nightmare. I mainly use an effects chain through the clean channel, so the lack of decent EQ on this channel was a bit of a dissapointment, but the two controls are responsive, and there's plently of bass and treble there for you to dial-in. The most annoying problem with this amp, as mentioned by Paolo1, is the sensitivity of the volume controls. Virtually all of the volume change occurs from 0-1, so you need a REALLY steady hand to get control over it. The amp doesn't come with a footswitch, but the two-button unit that can be bought from Fender is a good upgrade, switching channels, and also...

...Introduction I own a Fender Stratocaster 1962 reissue guitar that I purchased way back in 1989. This guitar was manufactured in Japan at some point during 1988. This guitar is something that I am pretty fond of, what with it being my first "proper" guitar, and at the time taking me the best part of a year to save up for! Fender Japanese Stratocaster 1991

Advantages: Great Fender sound

...I own a Left Handed Black Fender strat that is nearly 10 years old now. It is still in lovely condition due to the lack of play as i prefer my Aria Pro II Semi Acoustic to practice on. My Fender has a lovely sound to it. Crisp and clear. Its not like the Warm sound of my Semi or the grunt that a Gibson Les paul gives out. Mine is one of the last Japanese Fenders to come out of the factory before they switched production to Mexico. Fender American Standard Stratocaster : The Tone

Advantages: Tough, durable, wide variety of tones, ergonomic body, fast neck
Disadvantages: Hum and noise due to stock single-coil pickups

...Bought a maple-neck (with black plastic dot markers) sunburst Am Std Strat from Bentley Music in Kuala Lumpur in 1992 for RM 1 670. came with a rectangular hardshell case (not form-fit) with screw-type SKB hinges and lock (padlock not provided). Had to go through 7 guitars until I found 1 that had a flaw I could correct (faulty volume pot). This goes to say that all the guitars I tested had unpardonable flaws such as poor string-polepiece alignment (you lose power and definition), ill-fitting neck-pocket, badly-seated nut (you lose tone and sustain) or scratchy/poorly tapered volume and/or tone controls (makes the guitar unsuitable for live gigs until these are replaced).
