...guitar store will fix this if you can't do it yourself. Again like most fenders there is hardlty any difference between american and mexican guitars. I tried both and seemed a waste to spend double the amount when there was not much difference. It is a lot better than the squire bass though. I used to own a fender standard precision bass but the jazz completely beats that, being a lot more versatile and easier to play i prefer it, but still make sure you try both out! Mine is midnight wine with white pickguard, rosewood neck, and it is lovely, so give it a go and see what you think!...

Fender Dimension IV Bass - A new Dimension?

Advantages: Great variety in sound, Well built, good name
Disadvantages: Need to fiddle a bit at first to get the sound you want

...Fender are trying to create a new look and feel for themselves with this Bass. The active electronics and built in EQ are a radical change from older Fender basses. So what do you get for your money. The bass is well built and the action is low and reliable (little or no buzz). The pickups are one precision bass type and one jazz bass type. This results in very little unwanted noise. These can be mixed via a control that allows you to have all one pickup or all of the other or anywhere in between. A nice touch on all of the eq controls and the mix control (they call it a pan control) is that the centre point has a click point so you know exactly where it is. The sound through an amp is awesome and very controlable. You can go from a nice mellow sound right through to a heavy rock sound just by messing with the pan and eq pots...

Fender Standard P-Bass

Advantages: Good Build, Easy to Maintain, Classic Look, Great Sound
Disadvantages: Limited range of sounds

...I have now owned my standard P-Bass for just under a year and it is the best bass I have bought yet. Firstly, it is very well built. I have dropped it, it has fallen over and been bashed and bumped and it's still in nearly new condition. I used to have a squier bass and that was aweful, everything broke on that. Strap buttons came off, and even the pick guard screws started to come out, but I have had none of the same problems with the Fender. And the finish is very hard wearing. Also, I love the sound of this bass. It is excellent for anything from rock and blues, to swing and jazz. However, the one thing that I can say isn't that great about this bass is that the circuitry means that there isn't very much of a range of sounds from the bass itself, as there is one tone pot, not like the active preamps of other basses, but...

Funky Bass Guitar

Advantages: Better options of sound

...This is the Fender bass that I own and swear by. It cost me £370 last month and it is to replace my battered Marlin Bass that is 11 years old. The reason i bought it is because im limited to what I can have. Im left handed so my choice in Basses is limited as they dont make all models. I wanted the slightly cheaper Precision bass but they dont make it in Left hand. I had to opt for the Jazz bass. Im glad I did as it has more flexibility in sound than the precision. It has 2 different pick ups, Selectable by a switch. It has a deep sound on the rear pick up while the front pick up has a punchy, crisp sound. Great for playing funk. Also, this guitar is becoming ever more popular with the 70's feel coming back into guitars in a big way. I bought a Metallic Purple one. Again your colours are limited by being left handed...

Fender Squier P-Bass

Advantages: Cheap, Good sounding for the price.
Disadvantages: You will outgrow it

...This is the Bass that I learnt to play upon, and really thats what I would recomend it for. It's cheap, reliable and most importantly produces a fairly good sound. And although it's not the best looking bass and certainly not the best, it is ideal for those who want to learn to play as it doesn't require too much outlay and is actually quite good for learning upon and when you smack it against walls by accident it wont cause too much damage, he he. Cheapness is great and for a product of this qaulity, it is not deserved, but try not to pay more than about £130-150 for the bass and make sure that includes a lead, otherwise it's a bum deal. Fender our friend

Advantages: the best bass in the world

...Fender has had a long established reputation as one of the best guitar and bass retailers (if not the best) in the world. The fender precision bass is what I aspire to owning and not because of the name. This bass is the most comfortable and smooth bass I have ever played, and I assure you I have touched many a bass because all I do on weekends is go about music stores playing with the expensive guitars. The cheapest I saw one of these was about £250 brand new, one day I'll buy this and I'll never need another bass ever. plus they come in a range of colours from red to black to cream. If yuor in a band then I would recommend it as it is not only sooo good but it is VERY reliable and will almost never let you down. think smart, think fender standard precision bass....

It's a Double Bass daddio!

...It's difficult to buy a double bass in the simple way you might buy a good quality electric guitar or electric bass . For a guitar you can sort of decide if you're Fender, Gibson, Gretsch etc type of person by seeing what you're favourite players use on the telly and then trying them out in any good guitar store. But for the double bass we're in different territory all together and different rules apply. If you try out the bass in a store or room that is stuffed with other double basses or even other wooden acoustic instruments its going to resonate a little in each of those instruments and lead you into believing you have a lovely sounding bass when you probably haven't. ...very good, you can go from the harder, clickier tones similar to a Rickenbacker to the beefy deep tone of a Fender. The tuning keys are arranged two each side of a arrow head shaped headstock. The strings run under a bar string retainer. The fingerboard is rosewood and the fret markers are dot shaped, with smaller markers on the side of the unbound fingerboard.
