Vax - rewriting the definition of "deluxe"

Fender Classic '50s Stratocaster

Advantages: Superb Neck
Disadvantages: Single Ply Scratchplate

...about Mexican Fenders but I have no complaints about any of the components here nor the craftsmanship. There were no loose parts and the gloss finish on the neck is perfect. The vintage tuners in particular are very good. Fair enough, I had to spend half an hour setting the intonation and getting the action set to my preferred height but that would be true of most guitars. It also pays dividends to experiment with pickup heights to achieve "that" sound and get things balanced. Close examination did reveal a slightly less than perfectly even finish on the polyester paint but that's only when you keep tilting your head close up. I am nit picking here. The one thing I really didn't like about the guitar was the single ply white scratchplate. Although this replicates the original '50s model I thought it looked very cheap (it was also only...

Advantages: Well built, noisless pickups, very comfortable
Disadvantages: Tuning stability without LSR (or similar nut)

...The american deluxe series of strats offer great ballance of modern conveniences such as noiseless pickups, a modern C shaped neck and construction techniques that all in all offer an extremely well playing and great sounding instrument. I had personally bought an american deluxe simply as a "blues guitar" however it didn't take me long to fall in love with the instrument. Whilst the samarium cobalt noiseless pickups from Bill Lawrence do not offer the same glassy bite that the traditional (and noisy) pickups do they offer a thick yet very distinctive tone that is rich and dynamic with all but the highest of trebble intact. Advantages: Situated in a nice area, really friendly staff, basic apartment

Advantages: Very versatile, excellent quality
Disadvantages: More expensive than the standard precision

...guitar store will fix this if you can't do it yourself. Again like most fenders there is hardlty any difference between american and mexican guitars. I tried both and seemed a waste to spend double the amount when there was not much difference. It is a lot better than the squire bass though. I used to own a fender standard precision bass but the jazz completely beats that, being a lot more versatile and easier to play i prefer it, but still make sure you try both out! Mine is midnight wine with white pickguard, rosewood neck, and it is lovely, so give it a go and see what you think!...

From the early days of the Shadows, through to Dire Straits and now the Arctic Monkeys and The Stokes, the Fender 'Strat' has defined the sound of generations of guitar players. having owned a couple before, I decided to pick this one up second hand as a compliment to my Telecaster. It was never exactly going to be first impressions with this guitar as I always knew what to expect, but I do have to say that the build quality on this was exceptionally good. Being that Fender have been in production for so many years, its often the case that their QC can be a bit varied but they seem to be right on the mark with this one, a 2005 model. Fender Stratocaster 1962 Reissue (Japan)

Disadvantages: Low output pickups, not suited for heavier music styles

...Introduction I own a Fender Stratocaster 1962 reissue guitar that I purchased way back in 1989. This guitar was manufactured in Japan at some point during 1988. This guitar is something that I am pretty fond of, what with it being my first "proper" guitar, and at the time taking me the best part of a year to save up for! I purchased this guitar from Peter Cook's music shop in London and paid the sum of £299. Try buying a guitar made in Japan for that sort of money these days and you will struggle! Most low to medium price guitars are now made in India, China or Taiwan. It seems quite ironic to me that Japan has now become too expensive to manufacture lower priced guitars in!
