LG 22LH2000. Satisfyingly adequate

Advantages: Connectivity, Weight, Price

...concerned about was connectivity because I have a number of digital cameras that have HDMI connections, a VCR and DVD player that connect via SCART and an S-Video to Composite Video output from my PC for when I want to use a second monitor. The 22LH2000 has 2 x SCART sockets (of which one is RGB), 1 x HDMI, 1 x Coax aerial, 1 x VGA monitor socket, an audio input and a set of Composite Video sockets. For the sake of experimentation (and nothing else) I did try plugging my PC into the VGA socket and the TV functions perfectly well as a monitor, with a maximum resolution of 1360 x 760 pixels. The quality of the display was more than adequate ? although a little less crisp than my Emprex monitor. I?m sure I could fine tune this if it was ever going to become a permanent arrangement. Fender Classic '50s Stratocaster

Advantages: Superb Neck
Disadvantages: Single Ply Scratchplate

...about Mexican Fenders but I have no complaints about any of the components here nor the craftsmanship. There were no loose parts and the gloss finish on the neck is perfect. The vintage tuners in particular are very good. Fair enough, I had to spend half an hour setting the intonation and getting the action set to my preferred height but that would be true of most guitars. It also pays dividends to experiment with pickup heights to achieve "that" sound and get things balanced. Close examination did reveal a slightly less than perfectly even finish on the polyester paint but that's only when you keep tilting your head close up. I am nit picking here. The one thing I really didn't like about the guitar was the single ply white scratchplate. Although this replicates the original '50s model I thought it looked very cheap (it was also only...

Fender standard jazz!

Advantages: Very versatile, excellent quality
Disadvantages: More expensive than the standard precision

...guitar store will fix this if you can't do it yourself. Again like most fenders there is hardlty any difference between american and mexican guitars. I tried both and seemed a waste to spend double the amount when there was not much difference. It is a lot better than the squire bass though. I used to own a fender standard precision bass but the jazz completely beats that, being a lot more versatile and easier to play i prefer it, but still make sure you try both out! Mine is midnight wine with white pickguard, rosewood neck, and it is lovely, so give it a go and see what you think!...

Advantages: Superb picture and sound

..., budget of no more than £400, HD ready, and a good reputation. Above all, it needed a good picture quality. Wandering round the usual places we saw a few sets that met this criteria but we were not necessarily bowled over by them. Then we walked into our local Comet and, amongst the others, we saw the LG 32LH3000 on offer for £399.99. We had a good look at it in the shop and it met/exceeded all our criteria, plus one more we hadn't thought of... it looked pretty good, too! The salesman also told us that it hadn't long been on the market and that it should be £550, not £400! He said it was a steal at this price. His words were duly taken with a large pinch of salt, and we headed home to check it out properly. The few reviews we found online said the same thing... it was extremely good, so much so that one reviewer put it up against his friend...

Fender Stratocaster 1962 Reissue (Japan)

Advantages: Great looks, decent volume
Disadvantages: Volume control, clean tone controls

...'t suit everyone's needs. I managed to get a great grungy tone out of it. The distortion channel (as with many other solid-state amps I have seen) hums quite a lot. This isn't really a problem when playing live, but for recording is a bit of a nightmare. I mainly use an effects chain through the clean channel, so the lack of decent EQ on this channel was a bit of a dissapointment, but the two controls are responsive, and there's plently of bass and treble there for you to dial-in. The most annoying problem with this amp, as mentioned by Paolo1, is the sensitivity of the volume controls. Virtually all of the volume change occurs from 0-1, so you need a REALLY steady hand to get control over it. The amp doesn't come with a footswitch, but the two-button unit that can be bought from Fender is a good upgrade, switching channels, and also...
