Fender Stratocaster 1962 Reissue (Japan)

...Introduction I own a Fender Stratocaster 1962 reissue guitar that I purchased way back in 1989. This guitar was manufactured in Japan at some point during 1988. This guitar is something that I am pretty fond of, what with it being my first "proper" guitar, and at the time taking me the best part of a year to save up for! I purchased this guitar from Peter Cook's music shop in London and paid the sum of £299. Try buying a guitar made in Japan for that sort of money these days and you will struggle! Most low to medium price guitars are now made in India, China or Taiwan. It seems quite ironic to me that Japan has now become too expensive to manufacture lower priced guitars in! Fender Japanese Stratocaster 1991

Advantages: Great Fender sound
Disadvantages: Dont make them anymore.

...I own a Left Handed Black Fender strat that is nearly 10 years old now. It is still in lovely condition due to the lack of play as i prefer my Aria Pro II Semi Acoustic to practice on. My Fender has a lovely sound to it. Crisp and clear. Its not like the Warm sound of my Semi or the grunt that a Gibson Les paul gives out. Mine is one of the last Japanese Fenders to come out of the factory before they switched production to Mexico. They make an even cheaper Fender now at the factory in Korea but it really is not worth bothering with. people say that there is a lot of difference between a Jap Strat and a USA one but im yet to see the proof. they both sound the same. the build Quality appears the same. Fender American Standard Stratocaster : The Tone

Advantages: Tough, durable, wide variety of tones, ergonomic body, fast neck
Disadvantages: Hum and noise due to stock single-coil pickups

...Bought a maple-neck (with black plastic dot markers) sunburst Am Std Strat from Bentley Music in Kuala Lumpur in 1992 for RM 1 670. came with a rectangular hardshell case (not form-fit) with screw-type SKB hinges and lock (padlock not provided). Had to go through 7 guitars until I found 1 that had a flaw I could correct (faulty volume pot). This goes to say that all the guitars I tested had unpardonable flaws such as poor string-polepiece alignment (you lose power and definition), ill-fitting neck-pocket, badly-seated nut (you lose tone and sustain) or scratchy/poorly tapered volume and/or tone controls (makes the guitar unsuitable for live gigs until these are replaced). 50's Classic Mexican Stratocaster

Advantages: Classic sounds and styling
Disadvantages: colours not to everyones tastes

...My guitar is a pale blue (termed Daphne Blue by Fender) apparently all the 50's strats were painted the same cellulose colours as the cars of the period, except of course the 'Buddy Holly' variant which is natural wood. The body is I believe alder and the neck is maple with a rather golden coating which will in time become rather faded and worn giving the guitar a real vintage look. The first thing on strumming the un- amplified guitar is the kind of springy crisp tone. Plugged in the guitar produces all the classic strat tones, from Hendrix to Clapton to Knoppfler to Blackmore and a million other guitarists in between. Being modelled on an original 50's means the neck has a more rounded fretboard this gives a slightly higher action giving open chords a louder definition. ...I have purchased 9 guitars in total over my progressing career, the 52 Strat reissue was my first guitar and 12 years later it still remains my first instantaneous choice to play. To put this very simply, The 50s Stratocaster, in my opinion is the best guitar on the market by a country mile.
