Are Festivals For You? My Ultimate Survival Guide!
Advantages: Amazing music, amazing people and amazing atmosphere
Disadvantages: Not for hygiene fans!
...It's winter - unfortunately there's no festivals around at the moment. But no reason to worry, for tickets are already on sale for some major British festivals... Download.. Reading... I'm sure V Festival will be on sale soon too. Lots of reasons to start wiping the dust off your tent and invest in some wellies soon (if you haven't already done so due to this disgusting English weather!).
So, what is a music festival? There really isn't any other way to describe other than lots of people getting together to enjoy the music they love. A range of festivals are available nowadays - jazz, folk, pop, and my personal favorite, rock.
At these festivals you'll find there might be a few different stages, with the main stage hosting the biggest bands/most well known bands. There's generally plenty of food/refreshments places, stalls that sell...

Folk festivals.
Advantages: great atmosphere.
Disadvantages: So many festivals, so little time!
...Almost every weekend between April and October there is a folk festival going on somewhere in the Uk. They aren't always that easy to find out about - most do have websites these days though. Here's some usuful information about folk festials.
Normally, folk festivals run from Friday night to Sunday night, weekend tickes include camping, there is almost always access to bed and breadkfast.(There are several week long festivals, Sidmouth and Whitby that I know of.) The campsites tend to be civillised. Most festivals have activities for children. While some festivals will include professional performers, sessions, sing arounds, celidhs, dance displays, mummers and crafts, many specialise - it's worth checking as theres not point going to shanty festival if all you actually want to do is dance! The average festival will cost about £35...

Andy's Guide To Reading Festival
Advantages: It's always a good laugh
Disadvantages: Not everyone is there for a good time, Be careful with your valuables
...It's V festival this weekend and Reading and Leeds the weekend after so I thought I'd bring this to the fore for anyone planning a trip to either. I'll be at Reading as usual so anyone going let me know.
********************
The festival season is coming to an end with only a few weeks remaining, so I have decided to combine my 150th Op on Ciao with a guide to festival survival. I didn?t intend on making this 150 I was just going to pass it by but hey never mind that music op will have to wait till 151. For the purpose of this op, I?m going to draw on my experience from Reading Festival over the last 3 years and my preparations for the next one in 2 weeks time.
Tickets
******
The first thing to do of course is decide whether you fancy just 1 day or if your going to be daring and go for the whole weekend. Me I?m a weekend...

Going to a festival
Advantages: Great fun and a great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Camp sites can be rough, toilets are horrible and the festival food gives you the sh*ts
...When I first went to a music festival I really didn’t know what to expect, there were so many questions I wanted to know. Well this op is hopefully going to prepare you for your first festival experience .
Getting tickets:
It is a good idea to buy your ticket as early as possible as weekend tickets go very quickly. Day tickets can be brought at any particular time(even on the day you wish to go) so if you only intend to go for one day there is no rush. Make sure that you buy your tickets from a well known ticket marketer. For example ticket master and ticket web.
Camping:
If the festival is over a weekend(like many are) it is a very good idea to turn up early and get a decent camping spot. Don’t pitch up to near the toilets or to close to a bush! Try to get the tent in a position that you won’t forget and in...

The Simpsons: Film Festival review
Advantages: Fantastic writing, hilarious comedy
Disadvantages: None
...The Simpsons: Film Festival is a 'best of' collection of four episodes. One of my favourite things about The Simpsons is their memorable movie references, and these four episodes are four of the greatest examples of this. The episodes are "Beyond Blunderdome", "A Star is Burns", "22 Short Films About Springfield" and "The Itchy and Scratchy Movie".
In "Beyond Blunderdome" Homer wins tickets to see Mel Gibson's new movie, a remake of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", and asked to review it, which he promptly berates for being boring. This bothers Mel so much he flies back to Springfield and asks for Homers help in order to re-edit the film. What results is a bloody tour de force that has Mel decapitating the President of the United States. The remake is so crazy that it could be true, and that's how they get the parody spot on, because...

Festival Advice
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Music festivals in the summer are the highlight of the year. Mix with like-minded people, get drunk with them, slumber awake and toddle off to watch your favourite bands......and go do it all again the next day. However, there are several things you can do to make your you and your wallet enjoy it even more than you thought it could.
1) Bring Your Own
Food and drink. You need a lot to keep you going for 3 or 4 days, and with astronomical food prices in the festival, its cheaper to bring your own - and you don't have to queue. My favourites are Ravioli, Rice Pudding, and tinned All Day Breakfasts. Ringpull cans - just whip your spoon out and dig in - eat them cold because a) its quicker to get eating over with b) its just as nice and c) your stove might get nicked. Don't bother with bread - it goes off, fruit - it bruises, just...

Festival fun in Hertfordshire
Advantages: good family fun, local bands, stalls and activities
Disadvantages: Saturday can be a bit loud for the kiddies
...I seem to randomly find really interesting local events. A few years ago my son and I came across a Conker Festival which was a ton of fun and we've attended every year since.
Last year we were in the car after a quick morning in the shops and as we were driving home we noticed a huge stage set up on the moor and a big line of stalls with various bits such as food and local crafts and best of all the sign said in large letters, "free entry" ... we pulled the car over and walked over to investigate. Most of the surrounding roads are unmarked and you can park easily plus there is some parking available in the feilds. According to one of the signs we had stumbled upon a yearly weekend festival. It was the last day and there was a really good jazz group playing (would've gone again just to see them!). The grounds are usually where people...

Leeds Festival
Advantages: Friendly, Good music.
Disadvantages: Drugs, toilets!
...|:| The Festival
Leeds Festival is an annual rock music festival that happens every year at the end of August, usually the last full weekend of the month. Leeds Festival and Reading Festival are collectively known as Carling weekend. They have the same bands on over the weekend but on different days. Reading Festival has been going since 1961 where the origin of the festival began as the National Jazz Festival. In later years, with a rise in popularity of rock and metal music in the early seventies the genre of the music at the festival changed gradually. The popularity of the festival increased over time and rock gods such as Ramones, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns 'N' Roses and many many more have played there over the time it has been running. More people wanted to go to the festival with such great acts on so in the late 90s the festival...

The Scottish Festivals
Advantages: Both have excellent lineups, Scottish atmosphere, deeply memorable
Disadvantages: TITP - the chances of bad weather, GOTG - lack of traditional atmosphere
...Over the last decade or thereabouts, Scotland has only had one festival.. T In The Park, however last year seen the launch of a rival - Gig On The Green which was to take place in Glasgow City. So what are the differences and advantages of each?
T In The Park is the traditional UK Festival and has built up a reputation to compare with the finest festivals around Europe, each year a decent lineup has been confirmed, rarely one to challenge the likes of Glastonbury or Reading but certainly above average. However it has always had trouble attracting the rock bands who make their appearance at the Reading/Leeds festivals each summer. The Lineup this year is no different, already confirmed are the likes of Placebo, Stereophonics, The Webb Brothers and Texas... There will be as always 3 main stages, a dance tent, a fair, a well equiped...

A Festival of Simpsons
Advantages: Four episodes of the Simpsons
Disadvantages: It's only four episodes!
...Burns
Original Air Date: 5 Mar 95
Written By: Ken Keeler
Directed By: Susie Dietter
Special Guest: Jon Lovitz (Jay Sherman) and Maurice LaMarche (George C. Scott)
Story Line: Springfield decides to have a film festival and Marge invites Jay Sherman
to help judge it. Mr Burns decides
to make a movie, and ensures it will win by bribing everyone involved. My Opinion: An original story line for a cartoon, and has some really good scenes. Look out for Homer being outdone by Jay Sherman in a burping contest!
Conclusion
****************
This is another collection of four episodes on VHS, and the problem with videos is
that the quality is outdone by DVD and they can only fit four episodes on one tape. These are four really good episodes and they won't be available on DVD yet because they are from later seasons. They are fun to watch...
