Fiat marea at Dominican Republic

Advantages: Extremely comfortable car and easy to drive.

Review of Fiat Marea 1.6

Fiat Marea 1.6 weekend automatic

Advantages: Roomy, good loading space, nice to drive
Disadvantages: VERY expensive on parts and insurance :-(

...Earlier this year I bought a 1997 R reg Fiat Marea 1.6 elx auto estate, with 70,000 on the clock. Prior to this I owned a Jaguar XJ6 and was shocked when the insurance company wanted MORE to insure this !!!! The Fiat, however, is very nice to drive with lots of creature comforts, although Fiat did not put a cd player in the car which I think is a bit of a shame. Although the car is only 6 years old there is already some signs of rust - on the roof and wheel arches which is a bit of a let down. The car recently failed to start and being automatic I was unable to bump start it. The starter motor was knackered and Fiat wanted around £170 for a new one (at first I thought the price must have been in Lira !!!!), but I managed to get a reconditioned one for about £100. My experiences with the Marea Weekend

Advantages: Practical, Comfortable, Good Equipment spec
Disadvantages: Expensive to maintain, Fast Depreciation, Suspect build quality

...This car was purchased by my partner before I met her. It is a 1998 R-registered Marea Weekend 1.8 16v ELX model. Specification wise, it is excellently equipped, to say that this is a low-range model. It has climate control air conditioning, electric front windows, power steering, central locking, rev clock etc. To drive, it is OK. The biggest gripes I have with it are: - It is very underpowered - a 1.8i 16v enine should perform a lot better - It does not handle too well round corners, but then it's hardly a rally-car! - It has no ABS, and locks up far too easily in the wet.- - Engine noise in the cabin is harsh Living with the car on a day to day basis is fairly easy. ...Everybody chuckles when I say I drive a Fiat estate, but before that puts you off I am 18, how many 18 year olds do you see driving family estates??? Unfortunately the car isn't mine, but I am priviledged to drive it having driven a 12 year old Fiat Tipo before hand (legendary cars of which I thought there could be NO better). An incredibly good statement for the marea weekend is that my parents own TWO, thats how much they like them.....and to be honest now I do to......... Friendly Fiat dealers for all your needs

Advantages: friendly, cheap (for a car dealers), do as they say

The Fiat Punto - An ideal First car!

Advantages: Cheap to run and Fun to Drive, Excellent Value for Money

...I began driving this time last year and my first car was and still is a Fiat Punto 1.2 S, T-reg 1999, 3 doors. For a student such as myself, I would say that it is an ideal first car to have and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it. It is not lightning quick and insurance is cheap! Obviously because of the age of my car, it is not going to set the world on fire, but I have been very pleased with it so far. I paid £750 for it from an auction and two years previously it had been bought for £4,200! Luckily for me, it has so far been very reliable and I hope that it will last me until next year when I will sell it before I go to University. FIAT = Fix It Again Tomorrow?

Advantages: Fun! Cheap!
Disadvantages: Expensive to repair / unreliable

...Punto's! I have had and used three fiat punto's in the past. I am currently using a 2001 Fiat Punto 1.2 16v Sporting. I'll start with the 1997 Fiat Punto 1.1i 55 SX 45000 miles. The car was mediocre from the inside, electric windows for the SX version with a manual sunroof. No power steering, but it's cut my trips to the gym! The problems I've had with this car have been the clutch. The clutch needed replacing costing quite a bit. There was a few cases of misfiring which needed to be sorted by buying new leads and spark plugs. The second punto was a 1996 Fiat Punto 1.1i 55 S 50000 miles. No electric windows, nothing fancy here. Drive quality was not very nice, quite a bumpy ride. The problems with this were the clutch again but the main problem was when the integrated Fiat immobiliser failed. Fiat garages are not very helpful...

1998 Fiat Punto 55 sx

Advantages: Parts are cheap, fuel efficent, drives well (when running)
Disadvantages: Car suffers mid life crisis after 40,000 miles.

...I bought this car for £500. It was a 1997 (R) reg Punto 1.1sx. It had 50,000 miles on the clock with full service history. I thought the car would be OK as the milage was quite low and there was only two previous owners. After a month of owning the car the heater matrix went. These cost £60 from fiat and about £300 to fit as the whole dashboard has to come out. When the matrix goes you know about it as steam starts coming through the heater vents inside the car. I fitted the matrix myself, the job wasnt hard but it was time consuming. The car lasted another 2 months when the engine started overheating, this was a blown head gasket. apparently punto's are known for this problem, they fail around 30 to 60 thousand miles. A month and half later the clutch went. two months later there was a water leak from the bottom of engine...
