Fiat Punto Active Sport 1.2i 8v
Advantages: Great Looks, Low Tax, Cheap Insurance
Disadvantages: Ride Hieght, Slight Roll On Cornering
...Having recently handed my little Saxo over to my little sister for her lessons and run around. Its time to look for a new car, So I came accross a really nice "Fiat Punto Active Sport 1.2i 8v". Read below to find my opinion of this car so far.......
Performance~
This car is awesome on petrol, Obviously depending on the way its driven its averagin about 48ish MPG. ALthough not as responsive as the saxo was and requires higher revs in lower gears to do this, Another slight downside is the ride height and suspension set up as the car feels very high, and also as if it is going to roll when taking corners at speed.
Exterior~
The Active Sport variant of the Punto is in one word "sexy", Its got curves, and straight lines in all the right place. Again a slight draw back is the gap between the top of the wheels and the botton...

The Fiat Punto - An ideal First car!
Advantages: Cheap to run and Fun to Drive, Excellent Value for Money
Disadvantages: Safety, Style
...I began driving this time last year and my first car was and still is a Fiat Punto 1.2 S, T-reg 1999, 3 doors. For a student such as myself, I would say that it is an ideal first car to have and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it. It is not lightning quick and insurance is cheap!
Obviously because of the age of my car, it is not going to set the world on fire, but I have been very pleased with it so far. I paid £750 for it from an auction and two years previously it had been bought for £4,200! Luckily for me, it has so far been very reliable and I hope that it will last me until next year when I will sell it before I go to University.
Ride Quality
Obviously, the car's ride quality is not awesome compared to most modern cars around today. But if you can't afford to spend loads on a set of wheels, the Punto offers a very good...

Living and driving with Fiat Punto
Advantages: Economical and spacious
Disadvantages: Heavy steering and noisy at speed
...Why, of all the cars on the market did I choose to buy a Fiat Punto? I have to admit that I only considered this car because I had been driving one on hire for a few months. When I looked at the vehicles available, Fiat seemed to offer good value. Have I come to regret this decision?
I bought an ?98 registered vehicle in early 2000, and have driven about 16,000 miles since that time. So what are the pros and cons of this vehicle? This isn't the current model, but the immediately previous one wnich is very commonly available second hand.
Firstly, I should say that I am married but have no children and virtually all my mileage is from my daily 50-mile round trip to work. Most of my driving is on the motorway with a few intervals of stationary urban traffic.
Pros ?
Decent fuel economy, not the best in class but I return about 43...

1998 Fiat Punto 55 sx
Advantages: Parts are cheap, fuel efficent, drives well (when running)
Disadvantages: Car suffers mid life crisis after 40,000 miles.
...I bought this car for £500. It was a 1997 (R) reg Punto 1.1sx.
It had 50,000 miles on the clock with full service history. I thought the car would be OK as the milage was quite low and there was only two previous owners.
After a month of owning the car the heater matrix went. These cost £60 from fiat and about £300 to fit as the whole dashboard has to come out. When the matrix goes you know about it as steam starts coming through the heater vents inside the car. I fitted the matrix myself, the job wasnt hard but it was time consuming.
The car lasted another 2 months when the engine started overheating, this was a blown head gasket. apparently punto's are known for this problem, they fail around 30 to 60 thousand miles.
A month and half later the clutch went.
two months later there was a water leak from the bottom of engine...

Pedalling the Punto
Advantages: Fairly inexpensive to buy
Disadvantages: Parts are expensive, insurance grouping is high
...As you fellow Ciaoers may know by now I do like to write the occasional car op.
After having driven the face-lifted model Fiat Punto I could not resist putting "pen to paper."
The Fiat Punto has been "re-invented" since it first appeared on our roads, the very latest version has modified light clusters and a few other adjustments, but is very similar to the range made up to 2003.
What does it look like ?
*************************
The Punto is one of the smaller Fiats (Fiat have just launched the NEW Panda), the Punto is available in both 3 and 5 door. Compared to most cars if it's class it is not that distinctive, it blends in with most cars on the road. The main head turner with these cars is usually the colours they are manufactered in, I really do not understand who would buy a car in some of the shocking paintwork they...

Bye Bye Punto
Advantages: good all rounder
Disadvantages: -
...There always comes a time when we are fed up with our current car and want to move onto something new and that time has come for me. I currently have a Fiat Punto Active Sport in Imola Yellow (Bright Yellow) to suit my personality but its warranty has just expired, I'm a little bit fed up of of and want to try something different, particularly looking at Honda Civic or possibly Seat Leon.
Over the years, I have had 4 Fiat vehicles, at one point I was marketing manager for a Fiat dealership so I suppose I was being loyal to the brand there and tended to stick to what I knew best but overall I have found every Fiat that I have owned to be superb little motors.
My current Punto is 1.2 Active Sport, 54 plate therefore manufactured in 2004. All Fiat vehicles when purchased new come with three years warranty and as per usual are not...

Punto To The Rescue
Advantages: Decent engine with low emissions and fuel in-take.
Disadvantages: Tiny top speed and power-steering failure occurs too often.
...I purchased my Fiat Punto 6months ago from an auction in Nottingham, for just £1,000 + £200 auction charge. The car was in great condition (besides a flat tire which put bidders off), with only 41,000 miles of the clock! When I got the car home I discovered a few small problems which may or may not be common in most Punto's:
- The doors were creaking loudly when opened and closed. This was something I knew WD40 couldn't fix as the clicks were vibrating the doors, making it clear the issue was past an oil deficiency.
- I had several problems with the powersteering (a common issue in Punto's). When leaving a car-park I put the steering wheel in full lock and the power steering failed. It came back however and remained in tact. Then later I noticed the steering begin to deteriorate and eventually I was forced to drive on the cars...

Fiat Punto 52 plate 1.2 Dynamic (5 door)
Advantages: A small, low cost, but zippy car which is also reliable and easy to fix
Disadvantages: A difficult car to drive
...I recently purchased a Fiat Punto 1.2 Dynamic (5 door) straight from the dealers (Rockingham Motors, Northants). The Fiat website was exceedingly useful and allowed me to email the dealers to arrange a test drive.
In short the car was excellent: at a cost of £3300 for a 52 plate with only 42,000 miles on the clock and 6 months warranty.
The car's benefits by far out weigh the negatives which I have seen and been told by friends (i.e. not reliable, cheap nasty car, not spacious). The drive itself is comfortable, but I have been informed by passengers that in the back it is not so good.
It is excellent for short journey's for both comfort and fuel efficiency (even though I had some issues opening the petrol cap). Longer journey's it guzzles petrol but I expected that with such a small engine. For me, I needed a reliable car...

The Punto experience.
Advantages: Cheap, roomy, stylish, nippy, practical, reliable.
Disadvantages: A bit of a struggle on motorways, not comfortable enough for long journeys.
...I bought this Punto 1.2 ELX new in March 2002 and as this was the fifth Punto that I have owned, I thought I new what I was getting into. I have driven a lot of other cars but I always seem to come back to this charismatic little car. Some painless negotiating at Piccadilly Fiat in Ripon soon sorted me out with 35% deposit on a £9,800 car, leaving me with a comfortable 0% finance deal of £135 a month for 4 years.
A 5 door model, in black with burgundy cloth interior, extras included side airbags, a CD player, 6 speaker stereo with factory fit subwoofer in the boot, boot protector, carpet mats and 6 spoke alloy wheels. Obviously, for this price you are not going to be the envy of the street but it looks pretty good. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, one of the neighbours has just bought a 3 door 1.2 Active model in...

Parking Ping Prone Punto
Advantages: Fuel economy and cheap to insure
Disadvantages: Several
...You know the saying that a dogs bark is often worse than its bite, well the same can be said for trees. Following a car accident in April which resulted in my car being written off after an altercation with sycamore tree, I was in search of some new wheels.
After much deliberation I opted for a Fiat Punto S60 which was on a P (1997) plate, with just over 51,000 miles on the clock and was priced at £1,600 from a car dealer. This was around £200 less than the price suggested by Parkers Car Price Guide, so I considered it a bit of a bargain.
EXTERNALLY
Punto's are probably not the best looking cars on the road, but I've seen worse. This model is quite angular in shape with some very straight edges and very little evidence of curves which seem to be the 'in thing' with contemporary smaller cars. It's a 3-door hatchback model...
