Extraordinary Machine-Fiona Apple

Advantages: Like a well composed playful arty circus-infinitely better than the leaked version.
Disadvantages: Still a bit baroque and some might find it too chic and arty.

...Fiona Apple's third album, Extraordinary Machine, was subject to an Internet leak which resulted in fans having the unreleased version of this album before it was meant for commercial release. This really was tragic as the bootlegged version was terrible and really didn't do this extremely talented artist any justice. The leaked album from start to finish has the singer (and the producers) bad habit of making music deliberately hard to listen to. Going for bad baroque and pop-funk bastardisations that are mostly irritating to listen to. Although Apple's voice and lyrics are really wonderfull, the bad landscape of the album musically makes it a rough terrain that most wont be bothered with-unless they are die hard fans committed to being there through musical 'sickness & health'. Apple fans had waited ages for a new album and were...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

"Spirit" - Leona Lewis

Advantages: Great voice, great songs, fantastic reviews
Disadvantages: A couple of dissappointing tracks

...Being a huge fan of "The X Factor" (A UK Entertainment television show), I was a massive fan of the 2006 winner Leona Lewis, & absolutely loved her first single "A Moment Like This". However, it wasn't until the following November when Leona's album "Spirit" was released, following her hugely successful number one "Bleeding Love", which stayed at the top of the charts for a seven week run. TRACK LISTING Bleeding Love The second single to be released by Leona, this single was the best selling single of 2007, and due to it's international release, was also the best selling single of 2008. It has reached the top spot in an incredible 34 countries - and you can see why. It's a brilliant track, perfectly suited to Leona's voice, but with a tune and a sound that anyone would like. Young and the old alike are bound...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

John Lewis Wedding Service

Advantages: Great variety, great service
Disadvantages: None

...John Lewis Wedding Service John Lewis Wedding List I got married last year and probably one of the most exciting parts (ok marrying the love of my life was pretty exciting too but?..) was the gift list!! We didn't have to think for very long about where we wanted to go. We had considered Debenhams but they didn't have enough of a range to pick from and we wanted something a bit more upmarket shall we say! So, we decided upon John Lewis as they just have some lovely things in there. We got married in October so we went into the store in Milton Keynes in about August to set up the list. The list only goes live (this is when people can access it and actually buy you presents) a couple of months before the wedding so there is no point in doing it early. Also, as we were helpfully told, if you pick something very early to put...

The Monk - Matthew Lewis

Advantages: Fantastic read - Couldn't put down
Disadvantages: I couldn't find any even if you paid me...

.... The nuns who preach chastity, holiness and obedience to Gods laws are themselves participating in the ruin of at least one human life and are directly to blame for the death of her child. Ambrosio is supposedly the most religious man in the city, but he is obviously hypocritical, telling dedicated followers that they should follow Gods laws and not be full of pride, whilst at the same time his pride in himself is practically unrivalled. "How powerful an effect did my discourse produce upon its Auditors! How they crowded round me! How they loaded me with benedictions, and pronounced me the sole uncorrupted Pillar of the Church!" (Lewis 1998 pg 40). He then continues to describe his admiration for the painting he has of the Madonna, but he speaks only of the physical features presented in the painting, not the idea of the Virgin Mary. "I must...

No Morse with this Lewis. 2nd POLE,2nd WIN

Advantages: A true racer has come to F1.
Disadvantages: His season could still come undone.

...Another perect weekend for Lewis. Pole and the Win. He drove a faultless race, resisting pressure from Alonso. He has also won the hearts of American motorsport fans too. Go Lewis! Another chapter in the LH story. A superb win in a Canadian GP of twists and turns. Lewis kept his head when all around others, including Alonso, lost thiers. A well deserved first win. Well I have just watched Lewis's fantastic pole position drive in Canada. He has just demonstrated my faith that come the end of the season he will be a "Rookie Champion". Another milestone in this young man's amazing career. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the first three races...

Is John Lewis For Me?

Advantages: Classy, different, special.
Disadvantages: Shop assistants tend to be a bit pushy.

...I shopped at John Lewis for my first time, last year. Before I shopped there I had heard various stories and reports of this store. My viewpoint was that this was a posh store, a bit snooty and not really for me. Let me say, I have only been to a John Lewis store once and mainly shop on-line. John Lewis stores to visit are special shops, quite posh, but you feel good shopping there. My viewpoints have changed now and although I wouldn't shop at John Lewis all the time for special occasions and gifts it's very good. I was introduced to John Lewis with a £10 gift voucher off my first order of £20 or more. I bought a lovely vase for my friend, Laura. She was delighted with the quality yet simplicity and style of this vase. There were 3 vases of declining size which, when placed together made a complete looking vase...

John Lewis?...A good Lewis

Advantages: Plenty of consumer choice
Disadvantages: Can sometimes pay a premium

...As I have written about John Lewis before in my Wedding List review I will not write a 4000 word essay, mainly because it will bore you and my fingers will fall off. I am basing all my assumptions on just the stores I have visited (around 4), of which mostly is the one in Milton Keynes. As with most department stores the shop is huge and you could very easily spend 3-4 hours looking through the entire 3 levels of goods they have to offer. My wife loves to browse everything even if she browsed the same stuff the week before. I have to admit there is something about John Lewis that appeals to me more than most other stores like Debenhams; I think it is because their products all ooze quality. The Store from the outside looks impressive; the window displays are always well designed and modern to keep up with the times. The John...
