...It was quite a worrying day when my son started shouting out Barbie, Barbie. Now don't get me wrong. I'm all for sexual equality, but I draw the line at allowing my little bundle of joy to play with dollies in pink dresses. And then the proverbial penny dropped - he only ever shouted it out when either a fire engine, police car or ambulance passed by. In my infinite wisdom, I had been saying to him "Look, there's a bee baa". (Well, when I was little, they did go bee baa, and not woowoo like they do nowadays!) My worried mind was put at rest when I realised he had been saying the word back to front and referring to it as a baa bee, rather than a bee baa. ...If you want heat, get an old-fashioned one with white radiants (or chalks, as they used to be called). This is because they give off radiant heat, which comes straight out of the fire to warm the room at foot-level, as well as convected heat from the grill at the top. Fuel-effect fires are convector heater fires, so take much longer to warm a room, as they rely on the heat rising and then dropping again to floor-level, by which time most of the heat has been lost at ceiling-height. However, if you have a radiator in the room (or other heat source), which will be on at the same time as the fire, a fuel-effect fire is a good back-up and nice focal-point. Many fuel-effect fires are VERY expensive to run. When buying one, be sure to ask about the running costs - ask about its efficiency and you can work out for yourself how much... Read review

...FIRE! Where is the extinguisher? How does it work? Shall I have a go? These are the questions that normally get asked in the heat of the moment, not the best time to decide, and the answers are not always correct. I have been "Going to Blazes" for over thirty years now, and have seen a lot of flames. I must say that while extinguishers do stop fires in their early stages, they also sometimes lure people to their deaths. Many people have opted for having a quick attempt at putting out a small fire, instead of ringing the Fire Service, often resulting in tears. Different types of extinguisher:- DP:- Standing for Dry Powder. This powder is basically bicarbonate of soda, it does make a mess, but powder is easy to hoover up. There was no hesitation or indecisiveness; no pausing to reflect or reconsider our selections. We only had one shot at rehearsing them to politely tolerant, but otherwise totally indifferent adults: "Favourite superhero-- SPIDERMAN; favourite colour-- BLUE, favourite toy-- TONKA FIRE ENGINE, favourite ice cream flavour--MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP..." None of us particularly CARED whether or not you wanted to hear them recited either. You just DID. That was the rule. You had no choice. We didn't make a distinction between a cornered listener's "captivated, rapt amazement" and his or her "fast-eroding, insincere tolerance." Why? ...Well this was only the second review I ever wrote on Ciao and after re-reading it thought it could do with editing and improving so here we go!!! Three months ago I purchased a Nimo Electrical Fire from B & Q. It came flat packed and came complete with electrical fire, hearth, mantle piece and fire surround. Very good value for £249.00. The range of fires from B & Q is really quite large and you get various options. You can buy the whole lot together like I did or alternatively you can purchase it all separately. I looked into this and the cost had almost doubled by the time I had finished hand picking the mantle etc that I wanted. However the B & Q web site (ww.d-i-y.co.uk) has a brilliant feature in which you can view all the fireplace options and put together your perfect fireplace. It comes complete with pictures so... ...The Sheffield Fire & Police Museum houses a unique collection of Fire and Police artefacts and memorabilia. It is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers, and is the largest volunteer run Museum of its kind in Britain. Until a few years ago this place was free to enter but these days the Museum is supported by ticket entry sales and donations. It is also a registered Educational Charity. The Museum occupies the original Victorian Fire and Police Station at West Bar, on the fringes of Sheffield City Centre. The new, modern South Yorkshire Police Headquarters is located just across the Road. For many years this Building had stood empty and derelict but it was acquired by a group of enthusiasts in 1982, who with assistance from Sheffield City Council turned this place into the Museum that we see today. ...Who on Earth are Electric Six? They exploded onto the UK chart scene earlier in the year with the single ‘Danger! High Voltage’, which was plugged like crazy on the music channels and radio and entered the UK chart at number 2. Not bad for a non boy/girl band debut… until you realise that Electric Six are new only in name. The band were formerly known as The Wildbunch, releasing singles in the US between 1996 and 2001 before changing their name to Electric Six for legal reasons (exactly why I don’t know). If you were a closet Wildbunch fan, take a look through you collection… you’ll find some of the tracks that feature on the new ‘Fire’ album. Advantages: An absolutely fabulous Harry Potter score that has been worth the wait

...INTRODUCTION Quidditching their way back to the theaters in 2005, Harry Potter is here again with his friends Hermione Grainger and Ron Weasley for another year at the Hogwarts' School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. As Harry matures he now has to deal with adolescent love, the knowledge of his past, the coming of the big, bad Voldemort and a darker storyline. The plot this time around revolves around the Tri Wizard Championship which is a big competition among the different schools (Hogwarts', Beauxbaton's, and Durmstrang's), the select competitors being chosen by the mysterious Goblet of Fire on basis of names entered in it. The three wizards that the goblet names are pretty much the one's that eveybody was expecting, apart from one, and that is a fourth wizard by the name of Harry Potter.
