...Hello again and welcome to Chan's new toys! Just had a box delieverd to my home 2 weeks ago which i hadn't ordered, someone at work had given me new hardware to help with a task I've got to do. How well people know me, give me new harware to play with and i'll do any work they want! Anyway, opening up my jiffy bag I find a box with Media Centre writen in big black letters. MY first thought is what on earth is a media centre??? The box seemed a bit small for a TV and DVD player, let alone surround sound, so i decided that putting on my glasses so i could focus on the box was probably a good idea. It turns out a media centre is a rather large USB and firewire hard drive, with a few extras thrown in to make it look special. Advantages: Large and fast removable storage.

I bought it because I needed a large amount of storage space but didn't need access to the data all the time. **Size and Speed:** This "250 GB" drive gives 233 GB of space once formatted. This isn't the largest model on the market; there was a 300 GB model too, but that one only had 2 MB of cache and spins at 5400 rpm, compared to the 8 MB and 7200 rpm spin rate of this drive. This extra speed generally helps files to be accessed faster - I've played plenty of games from this hard disk and compared to my internal hard drive (7200 rpm, ATA100) it's not all that much slower at loading. **Connections:** The great thing about this drive is that it has both USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 backward compatible) and IEE1394 "Firewire" connection options. Disadvantages: 2.5-inch limits it to USUALLY Laptops but can be used in desktop computers

...Fairly decent hard-drive. Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a real bargin! I really recommend this hard-drive, the real-time data protection will help if your computer ever shuts off. It is also a 2.5-inch hard-drive which usually associates with laptops, however there are some desktop computers which could use this. If you did want to buy this for a desktop computer but your computer could only use 3.5-inch then you could buy an external hard-drive shell which could plug straight into your computer OR laptop through USB or Firewire. Overall I think this is a very nice hard-drive and a good bargin at the price it's avaliable for.... Read review
