...My daughter lived in Islington for two years while studying at London University and I stayed at her flat four or five times- it was certainly a lot better than having to fork out astronomical hotel rates,even though I was not allowed to have a smoke inside the flat. I must say one of the great features of my short stays in this trendy area of London Town was sampling some of the fine eateries along Upper Street. One of my favourite haunts was a fish and chip restaurant known as the Upper Street Fish Shop at no 324 Upper Street. It is a somewhat refined chippy and certainly appears to attract a well heeled clientele but then there are a lot of well to do local residents occupying the rather nice houses in Islington. For those of you who do not know (where have you been?), TY Beanies are a collection of little teddies in all forms of animals and teddy bears. Once you start a collection they are quite addictive. You find you are always looking for new ones and cannot stop buying them - havoc for your wallet, heaven for your collection! One of the Beanies is a fish, who goes by the name of Coral. ...I love fish fingers - and must confess to being somewhat fussy about them. Whereas with many other items, I'm happy to buy the shops own economy version - fish fingers for me HAVE to be Birdseye. This is mainly because many economy brands are made from the mysterious 'Minced White Fish', which tastes pretty disgusting, and leaves me concerned that I don't know exactly what's in the product. I paid £1.69 for the box which contains 10 fish fingers made with 100% fish fillet (Alaska Pollock). I choose these particular ones as I wanted to give Jake the best quality I could buy in a supermarket. The Fish Fingers are really easy to cook, under the grill or in an oven for 12 ? 15 minutes, turning occasionally. The first time I tried them with Jake, I just cooked him one and four for me. Sometimes on its own though I think fish can be fairly bland but it's hard to know what sauce to buy/make as there are not many out there. A few months ago while I was looking for something to accompany my fish I came across these Schwartz for fish packets. They are gorgeous. Basically Schwartz have come up with a range of different sauces which they say include their specially selected ingredients which complement the delicate flavours of a wide variety of fish.
