Fish Mate 4000 Pond Pump

Advantages: Efficient, easy to install, easy to keep clean

...As my pump was getting old and was really too small for the pond, I decided to buy a new one. Having already installed a Fish Mate UV+Bio Filter a year ago, which I have been very pleased with, I opted to purchase a pump of the same type. I chose the 4000 which has a maximum flow of 835 gallons an hour, has an anti-clog filter design, has superior wear resistance and reported to have low running costs. It also has a fountain set with four options. As soon as I received the pump I set to to install it. It was very easy to do, but I did make the mistake of not checking the size of hose required when I purchased it and discovered that mine was too small. I was cross with myself as I wanted to get it set up that day, so I would advise anyone buying this particular model that they make sure they have a 1" or 1.1/4" bore...

Fish in a tank?

Advantages: Great for beginners

...This tank is perfect for anyone starting to keep tropical fish. I always think that it's best to start off small and then once tou get more experinced, move on to bigger and better tanks. It measures 24 inches across so will fit in any room. It's 15 inches tall and 30 iches wide. I started off using one of these and now I use it as a hospital tank when my fish get poorly. As it is made of acrillic, it is more sturdy than the glass ones and it's easy to clean too. But you have to make sure that you don't scratch it. I brought mine from my local garden centre. I paid £90.00 which included the lid. This is reasonable price for your first tank as some of the larger tanks can be very expensive at £400. The lid has spaces at the back for the leads for the electrical equipment such as the light, heater and filter to come out...

I knew that I really ought to clean up the fish food and other unwanted bio hazards such as plant debris from my tank to help keep the water in good condition. Well, not knowing how to go about this without emptying my tank, I strolled down to my local aquatic shop and saw this air hoover, priced £4.95. I thought 'Great!' and bought one. I took it home and gave it a go. Basically, it is about 6-8" long and has a telescopic tube which increases it's length to about 12" or so. At the top is the handle a small white, cloth, washable bag. It has an air line which you connect up to your pump and away you go. You need to keep the water level just above the top of the bag to be effective. A variable air flow from your pump is desireable as too...

Suffice to say that my boys spend hours playing with their Brio trains which we add too as often as possible, seeing as brio is on the more expensive side. But ebay does offer an alternative to paying out so much money, but in my experience have found that everyone wants Thomas so the bids exceed drastically, the original price. This christmas my boys will not be let down. I have for them the usual colouring books and pens and my mother has told me that she has sent over a remote control Thomas. There is a limitless range out there, all guarenteed to keep the little uns occupied for many hours.
