Adnams Brewery was formed way back in 1872, when Ernest & George Adnams took over an existing brewery in the Suffolk town of Southwold. There has actually been brewing taking place on the site since the early half of the fourteenth century (in fact it has been traced back to 1345), so it was a good place to start a business. They were joined by the Loftus family in 1902 and have continued to produce some interesting and varied cask ales. Some Adnams beers you may have come across include the Bitter (3.7 % ABV), Broadside (4.7 % ABV) and Regatta (4.3 % ABV). Advantages: An effective little lozenge and part of our heritage
Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste.

Review of Fisherman's Friend Lozenges Original Extra Strong

The tale of the headless fisherman

Advantages: unique real ale
Disadvantages: limited availability

...working in the field. It is a real ale producing pub, supplying to it's own pubs (approx 100) and 750ish other outlets. Adnam's Fisherman is one of these beers. However much i try i cannot attempt to know what it tastes like. Resorting to looking this beer up in a guide it is described as clean, nutty with a lingering flavour of liquorice and fruit. Well that is the official description - i can tell you it is dark red, small headed and blooming lovely. Unfortunately lingering flavours of smoking seem to have minimised the acute sense of my tastebuds but it had me reaching for the bar again and again to taste the Adnams produce. It is 4.5% ABV which is potentially hangover inducing though i felt quite well, unlike after drinking some weaker but more chemically brews. Do you know your Panga from your Pollock?

Advantages: FISH! Lots of fish and as fresh as you'll find it anywhere
Disadvantages: Not a great choice if you don't like fish, I suppose.

My week as a prawn fisherman!

The guys on the boat were all cracking guys and had each gone through the same experience as me, one guy said it took three weeks before he got used to it! I also got a few quid for "turning up", which I thought was nice of them! I also know that I am never, under any circumstances, going to be a fisherman. I guess it's similar to working on an oil rig, or in the navy or whatever, only smaller! I like to keep fit and exercise everyday but it just isn't possible in the middle of the North sea! The guys I was with "hauled" three times a day starting at 4.30am and could be out on deck for up to 4 hours at a time. In between hauls a bite to eat and straight back to work. ...My Scottish dictionary describes a ?nippy sweetie? as an irritable, sharp-tongued person.
