Those of you that have been sea fishing from a boat will know that Mackies can be a pain in the proverbial b*m when you are trying to get your rigs down to the sea bed where the decent fish are supposed to be. But you probably know that Mackerel make good bait for those self same (and in my case, ELUSIVE) big boys. Here is my tip for you: Catch the b*ggers, fillet them and freeze them. BEFORE YOU START CLICKING ON THE "WHAT A WASTE OF CIAO SPACE THIS IS" BUTTON, let me explain a bit more. Freezing mackies, or more accurately, THAWING mackies, makes them go mushy and difficult to keep on the hook. The clever thing to do is to cut into fillets whilst fresh, layer them in a box containing 3 cm of salt and totally cover them in MORE SALT, 6 - 10 cms deep. These fillets should be left in...

Fish Bait

Advantages: Good entertaining film

One thing puzzled me and that is why should a couple, played by Reba McEntire and Michael Gross, be living in what is virtually the desert, in a house with a cellar with enough arms to satisfy the needs of a platoon of marines? Fortunately for the residents of Perfection they are as they supply the firepower to keep the worms at bay, for a while. However watch the film and enjoy what you see because it can be quite tense and funny at the same time. Just one final thought. I wouldn’t fancy putting one of those worms on a hook to go fishing unless it was for whales....

Advantages: colourful setting, fast paced storyline

For once we were able to make up our own minds without the American sales telling us whether or not the film was any good. 1 Boat - 8 DJs - No Morals - Fab film!

...I had wanted to see The Boat that Rocked ever since I saw a preview of it on my Mama Mia DVD that I got for Christmas. As it's a British film from the makers of such films as Notting Hill and Love Actually, and it stars Billy Nighy and Rhys Ifans I felt it was definitely going to tick all the right boxes. It subsequently made its way on to my Amazon wish list and finally appeared all neatly wrapped, thanks to my husband, for my birthday last week! We duly settled down to watch the DVD last night and I have to say that the next two hours and ten minutes passed in a very enjoyable flash. I absolutely loved this film from the very first moment that the opening credits appeared right through to the moment when the final credits rolled. Cockles Go to a sandy Harbour and use a normal garden grass rake and rake the top of the sand and you should depending on your area gather enough for a fishing trip in a short space of time and effort. Again care with a knife is needed to open these but they are easier than the Mussel. Disadvantages: No lift for disabled guests, £100 a night for a standard room is quite expensive

...thing I noticed was tonnes of awards for the hotel on the wall. Apparently the Boat is a 3 star AA listed hotel. They also have a Taste of Scotland double AA rosette award, and 4 starts from VisitScotland. The restaurant is equally popular and had AA awards for that displayed on the wall. As it was definitely past dinner time by that stage I was rather gutted that we hadn?t arranged to eat there. The menu looked delicious, far more something I?d expect to see at home in London than tucked away in such a sleepy backwater, and they are very forward thinking, or perhaps just very old fashioned, in their food management.
