Reviews of fleece throw
You've been well and truly fleeced
Review of 9feet.com by
dalg
Advantages: Site easy to navigate
Disadvantages: was the fleece offer just a ploy to build up a mail list?
...After being introduced to the 9feet site by a friend eager to get a free fleece, I thought "might as well have a go myself", and managed to persuade 9 other people to sign up at the website.
On the 4th of April I recieved an email from 9feet saying I had earned my fleece, and giving instructions on how to visit the site and claim my fleece, which I duly followed. As I write this it is now the 19th June, and no fleece has appeared. I have emailed the company twice now, and have yet to recieve an answer to either email. The fleece was to be delivered within 28 days !!!
Now I don't doubt that they probably are quite promt at sending out orders where money has changed hands, but until I can see that the free fleece offer was genuine, they will definately not be recieving any custom from me.
In their favour, the site is very eeasy...

Shake off the rain.
Review of Nikwax Polar Proof by
vk-dream
Advantages: Works great
Disadvantages: Little expensive.
...especially as the bottle stated that 300ml would only proof a single fleece item 3 times, regardless I still purchased this product.
When I got back home I sat down and read the bottle over and then decided to give it a go, they recommend that you wash whatever it is you're going to proof with Nikwax Tech Wash first but I have never done that and It's never been a problem.
Alas, using the stuff is easy, throw whatever it is you're going to proof into the washing machine and pour 2 caps full; that's 100ml of Polar Proof into the detergent dispenser. (You need 3 cap fulls/150 ml for 2 - 3 items) then set your machine to run a 40˚ synthetic cycle.
If you don't have a washing machine then you can also hand wash, simply soak your item(s) in a bowl of warm water then poor in 100ml for 1 item or 150ml for 2-3 items; Agitate the water to mix...

SKYESKYNS - A FREE TOURIST ATTRACTION
Review of Skyskyns by
kismet
Advantages: free to go in, very informative
Disadvantages: spend money on a sheepskin!
...Skyeskyns is a workshop in Waternish on the Isle of Skye. They produce sheepskins and products and will show you round their workshop free of charge.
The workshop is a family run business and was started in 1983.
TOUR
+++++
They are quick to point out that all of the fleeces come from sheep that have entered the food chain and are not bred for their fleeces alone.
The tour of the workshop shows you how the fleece is turned into a nice fluffly blanket, from a mangled fleece taken from the sheep. It shows you how each machine works and what it does to the fleece. They explain how long it takes to make a fleece.
We found it very imformative and personal as they show you around when you get there and you do not have to wait for a large tour group.
We were shown around by the one of the owners of the business, whose husband...

don't ask me, ask my boys.
Review of Terry Nappies by
kittenpants
Advantages: economical, ecological.
Disadvantages: less convenient, require a bit of work
...I tried cloth nappies on my oldest child, but found that they leaked. What was lacking was a good source of advice - I was using the wrong type of nappy for me, but didn't know there were any reasonable alternatives. I have found that terry nappies are perfect for both my 2 year old and my newborn, and have enjoyed trying out different folds (like large-scale origami!)
They are easier to use than I was expecting, and I believe they have helped move the 2 year old along with his potty training - he has become more aware of his "functions". Yes, they are a bit more time-consuming than disposables, but with practice and a little organisation they become entirely manageable. With reusable fleece liners (which keep bottoms dry and go in the wash with terries), and small terry squares for baby wipes, I now throw nothing bottom...

Next for kids pricey but good
Review of Next (Shop) by
jo1l
Advantages: great clothes
Disadvantages: pricey
...do get value for money.
The clothing ranges from tiny baby clothes to clothes for teenagers! The style of it again ranges from the practical old fashioned type dresses and pinafore to "grown up" type tops and skirts. for me the best buy's are their excellent ranges of fleeces - some are for outdoorware and some are more like jumpers.
Next do not have a policy of reducing their goods throw out a season, they wait for their twice yearly sale and reduce everything in one go. If you can bare the queue's and the mad rugby like scrum to bag a bargain then go! I've had many a bargain once I managed to get into the shop - but bare in mind you can also nab a bargain via their web site!
To sum up Next is pricey but if you compare it with other childrens shops you pay a littel extra for smart good quality clothes that do last. Well worth it in my...

Happy Dogs and Sticky Floors
Review of Rawhide Chews by
Nicola_G
Advantages: Good for teeth, keeps your dog quiet !!!
Disadvantages: Quite messy and sticky when hald chewed
...in their stomachs and they can throw them back up, which is never good !!!
We also bought her a huge rawhide bone but when they have chewed a little part of it and they keep the rest for later, its all soggy and sticky and it sticks to fleece beds and stuff, urgh !!!
Morgan still gets rawhide treats occasionally, perhaps once or twice a week but no more.
I would recommend them more for little puppies....

poo catcher!
Review of Nappy Liners Nappy Bags by
sportyminx
Advantages: make cleaning easy!
Disadvantages: paper ones can be rough!
...To be honest, a cotton nappy without a liner is an absolute mess - my worst nightmare about the whole process!
Nappy liners make using real nappies easy - all you do is slip it in on top of the nappy and fasten as normal and it keeps all the nasty poo on the surface so you can just throw or flush it all away without having to wash it (that is if you use disposable liners) however even the fleece and fabric liners are easier and less horrible to clean than the actual nappy - so there is your more enviro friendly option!
Nappy liners generally work on a one way system, they let all moisture through to the nappy but will not let any pass back so the babies skin is kep dry and soft! They also retain all solid - this doesnt completely keep all poo away from the nappy (espescially if it is a big watery one) as moisture still passes through...

Change With The Times
Review of Tots Bots Nappies by
jools30
Advantages: absorbant, cute
Disadvantages: washable nappies are addictive!
...a separate fleece liner with my size 2 nappies, just to help keep his skin dry.
Washing is straightforward – just throw in the washing machine and wash at 60 degrees! (With older babies, dispose of any solid poo down the toilet, but with younger, breastfed babies it just gets absorbed!) Don’t use fabric softener as it reduces the absorbency. As with all washable nappies, they do need washing a couple of times before using as it helps to increase the absorbency of the fibres.
As I said earlier – I don’t have a tumble drier. On sunny, breezy days I find my nappies get dry. If I have to dry them indoors, they take around 24 hours to dry. Of course, they can be tumbled if you have the facilities.
Compared to disposables, I don’t find washables any more hassle – the nappies just get thrown in a bucket until it...

Not just A Great Luxury
Review of Mothercare Fleece Blanket by
elvina
Advantages: Cosy & dries quickly
Disadvantages: None
...When buying things for our baby before she was born we invested in a Mothercare Fleece Cot Blanket. It was one of the few things that we bought new and was quite expensive at about £25.00. But it was great.
She is now 21 months old and the blanket is still in constant use. It is still very soft and fluffy and is mostly used for when she has a nap on the sofa or if we go out in the evening for in the car.
It dries really quick when it is washed and I think that it was worth the money.
A good really cosy blanket....

Meritous Medea mutates into murdering monster
Review of Medea - Euripides by
MAFARRIMOND
Advantages: Dark, psychological drama
Disadvantages: Dark, psychological drama
...Medea is a Greek tragedian play, written by the playwright Euripides, first performed in 431 B.C. at the annual competition of the Great Dionysus in Athens. Originally, part of a set of plays, the reminder now lost, it won third prize.
Euripides, said to have been born around 480 BCE in Salamis, is the father of dark psychological drama. Like his contemporary playwrights, he used Greek Mythology as the subjects for his plays transforming the legends into real-life characters with all the accompanying emotions.
In the Greek mythological story, Medea, a foreigner - princess of Colchis and a witch, marries the Greek hero, Jason. Medea had helped Jason is his quest for the Golden Fleece killing the giant serpent that guarded it. She then killed her own brother throwing his chopped up corpse behind the Argo as she escaped with Jason...
