Advantages: Very gruesome and imaginative special effects Disadvantages: It's not very scary
...Those of a younger age may remember the Goosebumps book: Why I'm Afraid Of Bees, which told of a boy who gets stuck in the body of a bee after an experiment goes wrong. If, like me, you thought that was scary, you should meet its bigger, nastier brother: David Cronenberg's 1986 Sci-Fi / Horror classic, The Fly.
Jeff Goldblum plays the scientist Seth Brundle, who, along with a pretty funky 80s hairdo, has a teleport machine which could render conventional transport a thing of the past. At a science party (now there's an oxymoron for you) he meets Veronica Quaife, a pretty journalist played by Geena Davis (oh no - her from CutThroat Island!). He takes her back to his laboratory / apartment to show her his huge? telepod, and they come to an agreement whereby Veronica will make a book about his life's work. And they have sex...

Review of The Fly (DVD)
Advantages: A reasonable score. Disadvantages: Dreadful direction, writing and performances.
...It is 1969 and the space race is in full flow. But it isn't just the humans that are determined to land on the moon. There are also three young flies; adventurous Nat, smart IQ and permanently hungry Scooter. They stow away onboard the Apollo 11 rocket, inspired by the tales of Nat's grandpa who claims to have flown with Amelia Earheart. But leaving their home at a dump near Cape Canaveral is a risky business. Not only is there the ever-present danger of being swatted, but the boys also have to deal with the machinations of Russian spy-fly Poopchev and his henchmen.
This is the first animated movie made specifically for the new 3D technology - and what a disappointment it is. Presumably the makers thought the novelty of the concept would overcome any issues with plotting or overall quality, but they were wrong. The quality...

Review of Fly Me To The Moon
Advantages: Looks a bit mad Disadvantages: Doesn't work
...My nan and her friend Ruby went to Whitby for a day trip with her friends at the Salvation Army. Nan had a stroke last year but is making massive strides forward lately and she's getting out and about again, going out with friends on a few day trips and going back to her old favourite ... Bingo on Friday nights with the girls!!
Nan loves to go into second hand shops when she goes on day trips and every time she comes back with a little gift for my brother and me. Sometimes these gifts are really nice, like books, puzzles or strange little ornaments, but more often than not, nan just loses the plot completely and brings back items which make us all wonder what on earth was going on in her head when she decided to buy it! Last Bank Holiday when she came back, she proudly gave my brother and me a plastic Fly Catcher!
We thanked...
Advantages: engaging interesting story Disadvantages: Some wooden acting, editing of the film
...Lord of the Flies ? 1963
Today, this story is probably not as powerful as it was back in 1963 when it was filmed or in 1954 when William Golding?s book was published. These days we have all become desensitised to the violence and random, meaningless killings that seem to happen on a daily basis, especially in this day and age when children whom are only three or four years older than those depicted in the film do far worse things than was ever shown within the running time of this feature. It could be said however that the film was a premonition of how lousy things were to become in the early 21st century.
The film is set during an unspecified period of time where tensions about Nuclear holocaust are running high. Children are being evacuated, although they are being evacuated from the country rather than out to the country side...
Advantages: Friendly cabin crew, comfortable planes, good offers Disadvantages: Limited flights from UK
...TUI Fly are a German-based airline that sells package holidays as well as flights only. They have high street branches in Germany and Austria (and a few in Slovenia I've noticed) but they have a prominent presence on the web and it was after being bombarded by promotional e-mails from the airline that I finally booked a flight with TUI Fly.
TUI Fly is not a budget airline but does have regular promotions that bring the prices in line with the likes of Easyjet and Ryanair. When the flights are not on offer the prices do tend to come close to, say, British Airways or Lufthansa. Earlier this year we paid around £60 each for a return flight from Newcastle to Hannover, the bulk of which was taxes.
The good news about TUI Fly is that they don't charge you for lots of hidden extras like hold luggage, desk check-in or seat allocation...

Review of TUI Fly Airline
Advantages: Good for school level as people of similar age in story Disadvantages: Can be long and repetitive at times
..."How does William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" explore human nature?" In your answer you should mention Golding's use of symbolism, characterisation, setting or any other appropriate feature that helps to develop the writer's theme.
William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" artfully sets out to explore the vital theme of human nature. The novel is in response to the atrocity of the holocaust and asks how our human nature allowed this evil to take place. Golding sets out to answer the question "Are we all potentially evil?" Golding questions our human nature by describing a group of young teenage boys onto an idyllic deserted island. Slowly through the book the perfect world descends into chaos and savagery.
To question our human nature Golding uses a broad spectrum of believable characters. There are no adults, only children...

...The Fly is a horror/science fiction film directed by David Cronenberg. The screenplay was written by Charles Edward Pogue and David Cronenberg, which was based on a story written by George Langelaan. The film was released in 1986. This is a loose remake of the 1958 film The Fly, starring Vincent Price. A sequel was made to this film, called The Fly 2.
This film is about Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a scientist researching the field of matter teleportation. He manages to successfully get his research to work, but after trying to teleport himself, he is inadvertently transported along with a fly. This proves to be a disaster as his genes are fused with that of the fly's and he mutates into a hideous monster. Brundle must attempt to reverse the mutation, but struggles in this endeavour. Genna Davis plays Brundle's love interest...

...Where the Fairies Fly by Jane Simmons
Written by the creator of the bestselling “Daisy” books, this is a book which was always going to be popular with Little Miss.
~~The Story~~
The story centres around Lucy, who, we discover, loves to tell stories, and her younger brother Jamie. Lucy tells all kinds of stories; deep blue sea stories, flying high stories and magic stories. Lucy loves to lie in bed with Bear and tell him stories, but poor Jamie “hated bedtime”.
When Lucy realises that Jamie can’t sleep, she tells him that Bear can’t sleep either, so they will all have to go and find the Bedtime fairies. From the first reading of this story, and as soon as these fairies are mentioned, we realise that we are going on a magical adventure, which indeed we are…
