...Well now that my reviews for Chicago and Las Vegas have been completed I guess its time to move onto my third stop, don't worry only two more stops after this, in what was an amazing summer. The next leg of my journey took me to the state capital of Washington DC. The roots of American democracy and the political capital of the world. This was actually my last stop before coming back home, however I just felt like writing about this now. I had pre booked my ticket to DC whilst I was in London with American Airlines from Chicago; it set me back about £150, which for a peak time in mid July was not bad what so ever. Having stayed in DC for a week this review will focus more on the sights and places I visited, if I forget to mention the obvious places to see its because I didn't really go their and I therefore don't see the need to mention...

HI Washington DC!

Advantages: Great tours, good breakfast, good facilities
Disadvantages: Reception staff were quite rude

...I stayed at this hostel for a few days in mid August. It was my first time ever staying in a hostel as I've always gone with hotels, being unable to see the allure of sleeping in a room with a million other people. Unfortunatley, the sheer amount of places I wanted to visit meant there was no way I could have the money to stay in a hotel or have a room by myself, and so Hostelling International Washington DC was the way forward for me. And you know what? I'm glad I did. This hostel wasn't the cleanest one in the world, but it did it's job. The outside blends in well with the surroundings and due to all the flags sticking outside is relatively easy to find. The rooms themselves were surprisingly attractive to me. My room was quite large (despite having chosen the option to have thhe most people in the room, it was still very spacious...

Washington DC

Advantages: open, much to see and do, quite cheap
Disadvantages: not as many eateries in Washington Monument area

...My husband and I visited Washington DC in October 2007, whilst traveling around the States. We stayed for 3 nights, at the Allen Lee Hotel. Washington DC is an interesting city. Its history is in stark contrast to its modern political face and the side that is shown in movies and on TV. What struck me immediately about Washington DC were the open spaces, not just in the parks and at the water front but also when simply walking down the street; it's a nice change from the claustrophobia of many US cities. Because there was so much to see in Washington DC, we opted for a tour on one of the many open top buses that circle the city and surrounding area. At $39 for a 24hr, hop on-hop off pass, this was a real bargain and the best way to see everything in the city, in my opinion. From the war memorials and Arlington cemetary to the White...

Washington DC

Advantages: Museums are beautiful, transport good and many surprises.
Disadvantages: few, same as most places- a little dirty and a few homeless people

...Having had the pleasure of visiting Washington DC twice in my life I feel very lucky as it charmed me both times. All the major monuments are as majestic in real life as on television- apart the Whitehouse is smaller than expected but still just as beautiful. On my first trip I stayed in the Red Roof Inn Downtown which was booked through Expedia and cost about $140 for 1 night for two. It was located about 5 blocks from the Whitehouse (further than it sounds) and was quite close to Chinatown. The area did seem a little rough but the hotel itself was lovely and the staff extremely helpful. On the second trip I stayed in the Braxton Hotel which I preferred over the Red Roof Inn. It was set in a very old building and had a lot of charm to it. Despite the small double room, my girlfriend and I both found it to be very romantic...

Weekend in Washington DC

Advantages: Lots to do Very educational
Disadvantages: Tiring

...So much to see so little time. We were only in Washington D.C. for the weekend having driven down from New York and wanted to see as much as was possible in a short space of time. We booked into a cheap and cheerful Days Inn in the Arlington District and after a good night sleep put on some sensible shoes and set out exploring. First stop Arlington National Cemetery this is a beautifully kept graveyard that runs tours pinpointing famous graves. Among the thousands of white headstones lie JFK and his brother Robert to name but two. Also in the cemetery is Arlington House the former home of Robert E Lee which you can go through. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a very popular stop and every hour there is a changing of the guard, it is a very moving experience and despite the 90+ temperature it brought me out in goosepimples...

Washington Court Hotel - a great base in D.C.

Advantages: Modern, Friendly, Great Location for the Sights
Disadvantages: No free WiFi, Not much locally in the evening

Review of Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC

Washington DC - A friendly city

Advantages: Ease of navigation around city, good public transport
Disadvantages: Having to tip everybody who does anything for you

...This city was a marvellous change to the other capital cities I have visited over the years. There are several reasons for this, which I will address individually below. Cleanliness: There was an amazing lack of litter on the streets in comparison to say somewhere like London. I am not saying that its streets were bare of litter but that there were very few instances of burger cartons and such like lying around in the gutters. Public transport: The Metro was very good value for money. A day’s ticket could be bought for a nominal amount and provided good transport around the city. Again the stations were kept very clean. Buses provided an equally good alternative to the Metro but take slightly longer to reach destinations. When I went to Washington there was no train service to and from Dulles airport so rather than pay...

Flight to Mars.

Advantages: Not too bad.
Disadvantages: Quite Dated

...Flight to Mars. Evil Martians plotting to invade the Earth. A space ship is launched for the first landing on Mars. But when they get there Mars is full of Martians and they are not the friendliest bunch. The Martians are running low on all of their resources and plan to invade and occupy the Earth. The scientist and big mouth reporter who accompanied them are Earths only hope of stopping the invasion. The Martians turn out to look exactly like humans! There is a love interest to the story and some weird looking weapons. The plot of the movie is poor and smacked of ?first men in the moon?. The special effects where above average for the day it was made and the acting was good apart from the Martians who way over acted and hammed it up far too much. The actors alk around looking a bit dazed as if they are nit...

DULLES AIRPORT - WASHINGTON DC

Advantages: A Gateway to the United States

...DULLES AIRPORT - WASHINGTON DC - UNITED STATE of AMERICA There were 400 passengers on our flight and we all disembarked at the same time to be greeted by a voice shouting out a number from 1 to 10 and pointing to a door we were politely but abruptly ushered in a orderly fashion into what seemed like small rooms with seats in, as we sat waiting the doors closed and the room began to raise into the air and move forward, it turned out to be an inter-terminal bus. Wonderful, this was my first experience of American efficiency and hospitality. After about twenty minutes we had arrived at the terminal building and informed that our luggage was arriving on carousal Number 8. I think we watched most of the worlds travelling populations luggage arrive before at last, ONE of our cases turned up. Thinking the worst, we watched and waited...

Review of Washington D.C. Dulles Int. Airpor, USA (IAD)

Washington D.C. - Very interesting.......

Advantages: Every attraction is free, and theres PLENTY to visit, most of which are in walking distance of each other.
Disadvantages: The only disadvantage I could think of is if you have children. They could become very restless during the day.

...I'm from England, and when I announced I was going to Washington D.C. everybody said America, great...... but Washington D.C. is full of boring Museums! It was part of a trip to America, which involved visits to various other cities. I did wander if it could become a bit boring. I was pleasantly surprised by it though! I didnt think the White House was all it's made out to be - and I wouldnt bother going again. I went in mid March 2001 - and the que for the White House was 3 hours long!!! I think one of the best places to visit in D.C. is Fords Theatre. This is the theatre where Abraham Lincoln was assasinated. You can go in the theatre, where you are shown the box he was sitting in - and a guide talks you through all the events. Downstairs is a museum about Lincoln, which includes the blood soaken pillow Lincoln died on! It...
