...I originally bought this external floppy drive a few years ago after the standard for laptops was not to have an inbuilt floppy drive already in them however at the time floppy disks were still in use from time to time. It doesn't mean that this can't be used for desktop computers that don't have internal floppy drives. Advantages: Very reliable
Disadvantages: none

Have fitted this make of floppy disk drive in every machine I have built for my self and for my customers for around the last four years and don’t think I have had one returned to me that is not working. ...You're copying a bunch of documents from your computer onto a 3.5" floppy disk. All is well, you see the sheets of paper flying across and the progress bar moving along nicely but then suddenly *BEEP*. A small window pops up saying your disk is full! A standard floppy diskette these days can only store 1.44MegaBytes (or 1,044KiloBytes) of data. Sometimes, it's not even enough for a single document these days, especially if there are pictures inside. Now imagine a disk that gives you 128MB of data. That's the same as 88.89 floppy diskettes! ...This is a review on the PQI's USB 2.0 1GB 'Cool Drive' Travelling Disk. This product is very similar to my PQI 128MB Cool Drive Traveling Disk, which I've also reviewed, but with one BIG difference. The 1GB version of this drive holds A LOT more information than the 128MB could ever. Now what does 1GB mean? It's short for 1 GigaByte, which is 1,000 MegaBytes. Actually, the space shows up as 999MB but that's close enough. Now, if you've read my 128MB Cool Drive review, or at least seen the title, you'll know that 128MB stores roughly the equivalent of 88 floppy disks. Now the 1GB Cool Drive stores the equivalent of 694 floppy disks! Impressive, in'it? Now, the 1GB Cool Drive is practically identical to the 128MB Cool Drive. Floppy Drive 120Mb???

Advantages: Faster, greater capacity
Disadvantages: Not quite as cheap as traditional drives

I did a couple of months ago purchase all the parts for a new PC witch I assembled myself and I must say that the experience I have had with floppy drives is that they are slow, unreliable and the traditional floppy disks are about the most fragile media you can get. I purchased one of these traditional 1.44Mb drives to begin with not thinking too much about it. It was a MITSUMI drive costing about £10. I took it home and put it in my new super fast pc and amazingly the little monster thing didn't appear to work... so I took it back and whilst I was at the store I noticed one of those newfangled LS120 drives from Panasonic and it stores a huge 120Mb on each of the new type of media and it is backwards compatible. ...Hiya sorry about the boredom about these floppy disks first the imation 3 1/2" floppu disks and now its those pesky 3M's. Right i am sorry to say that my other batch of imation floppy disks have run out. So i phoned my supplier and i was informed by the lovely lady called charlie that they had run out. So she did suggest i try the new 3M pack of 10 floppies. Right onto the product in hand: These are the worst floppy disks i have ever purchased, the colour black is the worst ever but i must agree that floppies are the same as any other floppies. These floppy disks are not pre-formatted so you would need to format them yourself which is really time consuming, especially if you have a really important report due in the next day for the bank as i did. LaCie 1 TB Big Disk Hard Drive

Advantages: Capacity, looks, decent manual, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit slow, a lot to lose in one go

...With people starting to amass more and more data on their PCs, the old methods of backup such as tape or CD & DVD are becoming woefully inadequate. As a result, by far the most cost efficient method for either storing data or backing it up is the external hard drive. That said, 1TB or 1 Terrabyte is a crazy amount of space and the sort of storage that would have kept a multinational company ticking over nicely ten years ago. The LaCie (pronounced Lassie, like the dog) 1TB unit is a reasonably basic device that only has a USB2 (although USB1 is supported) interface and comes with a suitable lead, external power supply and software CD. I recently brought these from my local Argos store in Hastings as my office equipment supplier said that i place my order too late for next day delivery. I came across these floppy disks in my catalouge near to the PC pages and said that all of the other packs of floppy disks have the same amount of space which is currently 1.44Mb of storage but these ones have colour co-ordination to them and the others have not. This is the first tablet I have used and I admit to be being impressed by both the concept and by Acer's ingenuity in combining notebook and tablet functionality. The processor is a Pentium III ULV 800. With 256MB of RAM and 30GB of hard disk space, the Windows XP tablet edition operating system works quickly and purposefully.
