Panasonic Floppy disk drive
Review of Floppy Drives by
robbailey
Advantages: Very reliable
Disadvantages: none
...One of the best floppy disk drive makers in the business. I have never had any problems with this make of floppy disk drive since I have been using them.
Have fitted this make of floppy disk drive in every machine I have built for my self and for my customers for around the last four years and don’t think I have had one returned to me that is not working.
Have tried all the other makes of floppy disk drives and have had problems in one way or another with them some.
The key to all good floppy disk drives is that the heads are regularly cleaned to keep them in good condition.....

Got a Floppy Disk?
Review of Freecom Floppy disk drive 1.44 MB by
burns2007
Advantages: Quick, Easy, Reliable, Small, Fits into any pocket or bag
Disadvantages: Faded out use lately
...I originally bought this external floppy drive a few years ago after the standard for laptops was not to have an inbuilt floppy drive already in them however at the time floppy disks were still in use from time to time. It doesn't mean that this can't be used for desktop computers that don't have internal floppy drives.
Power
*********
Usually when having an external device like an external hard drive or optical drive you would usually need more than one lead. It would usually be a cable for the power into a power socket in the wall and a separate cable to send and receive data between the device and the computer however with this external floppy drive it has completely changed. Now all that is need with this floppy drive is simply just one USB cable with a mini USB connected to the drive making it quick and easy to use when your...

88 Floppy Disks in one!
Review of PQI 128MB USB 2.0 Cool Drive Traveling Disk by
Deru
Advantages: Fast USB 2.0 connection, accessories, Compact, Looks COOL
Disadvantages: Requires a driver for Win98, Need updated USB 2.0 driver to use advanced features or your computer crashes, not all computers have USB
...You're copying a bunch of documents from your computer onto a 3.5" floppy disk. All is well, you see the sheets of paper flying across and the progress bar moving along nicely but then suddenly *BEEP*. A small window pops up saying your disk is full!
A standard floppy diskette these days can only store 1.44MegaBytes (or 1,044KiloBytes) of data. Sometimes, it's not even enough for a single document these days, especially if there are pictures inside. Now imagine a disk that gives you 128MB of data. That's the same as 88.89 floppy diskettes! Yes, you've guess it (if you bothered guessing that is). The product I'm reviewing is a flash disk. Also known as pen drives, USB drives, flash drives, memory sticks, travelling disks, jump drives, etc. These are basically disks that plug into your computer via USB and act like a drive. Kind...

1GB of space...That's 994 floppy disks!
Review of PQI 1GB USB 2.0 Cool Drive Traveling Disk by
Deru
Advantages: Fast USB 2.0 connection, accessories, Compact, Looks COOL
Disadvantages: Requires a driver for Win98, Need updated USB 2.0 driver to use advanced features or your computer crashes, not all computers have USB, gets hot.
...This is a review on the PQI's USB 2.0 1GB 'Cool Drive' Travelling Disk. This product is very similar to my PQI 128MB Cool Drive Traveling Disk, which I've also reviewed, but with one BIG difference. The 1GB version of this drive holds A LOT more information than the 128MB could ever. Now what does 1GB mean? It's short for 1 GigaByte, which is 1,000 MegaBytes. Actually, the space shows up as 999MB but that's close enough. Now, if you've read my 128MB Cool Drive review, or at least seen the title, you'll know that 128MB stores roughly the equivalent of 88 floppy disks. Now the 1GB Cool Drive stores the equivalent of 694 floppy disks! Impressive, in'it?
Now, the 1GB Cool Drive is practically identical to the 128MB Cool Drive. The drive is roughly the size of my thumb, it's metallic blue in colour with clear bits at the bottom and tip...

WHAT A FLOP
Review of Floppy Drives by
mdstone
Advantages: cheap, small, quick to format
Disadvantages: not enough capacity, not very durable
...It is becoming apparent that the floppy disk will in time become a thing
of the past.
As the latest PC's get faster and faster, they seem somewhat slowed down and held back by the presence of the floppy disk.
How many of you have copied files to floppy and waited an eternity for them to finish? The fact of the matter is that they are too slow and we need to think about developing an alternative. Could this be the mini disk?, or even a cheap, small removable disk drive?, who knows?
I can remember the days when PC's came with 250mb or less Hard Disks.
At the time, you probably thought that it was more than enough storage space for your requirements, but as technology has moved on, you find that Hard Disks of that capacity would be rendered 'useless' for the needs of today. At the same time there was the floppy drive, which...

FANCY HAVING 88 FLOPPIES IN YOUR POCKET?
Review of Lexar JumpDrive USB flash drive - 128 MB by
moonlightsilvia
Advantages: Very small, Colorful, it stores up to 128 Mb of data
Disadvantages: None
...Lexar Media Lexar JumpDrive 128 MB
Hi there everyone,
I’m Silvia and I’ve bought Lexar Media JumpDrive about a month ago.
WHAT IS IT?
Lexar Jumpdrive is a pocket size, portable USB storage device for your computer or laptop.
It can store up to 128 Mb of data, (files, music Mp3, photographs, documents etc.) the possibilities are endless!!!
The great thing about it is the fact that having it with you is like having 88 floppies in your pocket!!! Quite cool for a thing about the size of a key!
WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?
Lexar Jumpdrive can store, transfer, carry any kind of data virtually anywhere, but that’s not all…. If you own a fairly recent Laptop you’ll certainly know that the majority of them don’t have an internal floppy drive. Well Jumpdrive is the easiest and quickest solution if you need to transfer data from...

Sony had to use a Floppy Drive
Review of Sony Mavica FD71 by
paulbowes2k1
Advantages: Floppy disks,MPEG Movies,Fairly easy to use.
Disadvantages: Bulky,Price!
...> this isn’t no ordinary Digital Camera it has a 4X Quick Access Floppy –Drive (which accounts for its bulk) and so that tells us that the pictures are saved to floppy discs and not digital memory sticks, this can be quite a saving as a box of 10 floppy discs costs £2 as opposed to £70 for a 8 MB memory stick (no contest)! But on the other hand can you be bothered to carry camera and box/s of discs around? (Buy a carry case? A Sony case will knock your pocket an extra £30 at least, I picked up a padded shoulder case new on a market stall for a £1 and it’s the BIZZ).
As all the pictures are stored on floppy disk they are instantly compatible with your computer and no software is needed. This Mavica has a 1.3 million Mega-Pixel capability (not a lot by today’s standards but “enough”) this allows picture image...

The new alternative to floppy
Review of Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 Hi-Speed - USB flash drive - 1 GB by
MatthewPickard
Advantages: More reliable than a floppy
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I had just re-started school and when attending my first IT lesson I was immediately informed by the teacher that to securely save my work this year i would be best off buying a USB flash memory drive as lately floppys were far too un-reliable and she didn't want us losing important schoolwork/coursework due to a malfunction of the floppy.
With this in mind I started looking around for a USB flash memory drive for a decent price, i already knew that Kingston was a well known (memory) brand and was known to be very reliable and so when looking around paid special attention to theirs.
I also knew that i either wanted a 128 or 256 memory capacity as this would mean that I would be able to easily store all my schoolwork with no worries that the space would run out.
I decided on the Kingston 256 as i considered it to be a decent...

safer than a floppy disk
Review of Disgo Lite - USB flash drive - 64 MB by
amy21
Advantages: small and lightweight, easy to use
Disadvantages: the keyring feature isn't strong
...I have just recently completed and successfully handed in my dissertation for my hospitality degree and relied heavily on this device. It is an amazing product and would reccomend this to everyone.
I was in the process of completing an assignment for one of my many modules by using a floppy disk to save all my work on. As the floppy doesn't hold much information i was constantly opening up different folders on different disks and cutting and pasting the information that i needed onto my uni's hard drive. However, whilst i was constantly opening new documents on different disks, the disk drive made a noise and i lost all my work as the disk that was in the drive wasn't the one with my final work on and all the work that i had done that day deleted.
I couldn't risk this happenning whilst i was completing my dissertation so i decided...

3M 1.44Mb Floppy Disks. Yes thats another one.
Review of 3M Floppy disk 1.44 MB by
Sexy_Young_God
Advantages: Small and compact
Disadvantages: Breakable and horrible colour
...Hiya sorry about the boredom about these floppy disks first the imation 3 1/2" floppu disks and now its those pesky 3M's.
Right i am sorry to say that my other batch of imation floppy disks have run out. So i phoned my supplier and i was informed by the lovely lady called charlie that they had run out. So she did suggest i try the new 3M pack of 10 floppies.
Right onto the product in hand:
These are the worst floppy disks i have ever purchased, the colour black is the worst ever but i must agree that floppies are the same as any other floppies.
These floppy disks are not pre-formatted so you would need to format them yourself which is really time consuming, especially if you have a really important report due in the next day for the bank as i did.
These floppies are not as good as the Imation series as all of these disks...
