Advantages: Great food, great wine, great advice
Disadvantages: I'll get fat...
...Hey, hey, hey -- Grilling in the USA! This is the lead article in in the first issue of Food and Wine I ever got, and as the summer approaches, and I am ready. I just pulled my grill out of the garage last week, as the temperature is warming up. This is what I love about this magazine--they are timely, and somehow know what I'm thinking.
Yes, I know--many are thinking about grilling now. This doesn't lessen the value of the magazine for me; it comes monthly with seasonal dishes and ideas for parties, formal and casual, as well as general items that would be appropriate all year round. The grilling article this month concentrates on atypical grilling possibilities -- grilled salmon with dilled mustard glaze; grilled Maryland soft-shell crabs with tartar sauce; grilled pork tenderloin fajitas; barbecues leg of lamb; many other things...

For Upscale Foodies
Advantages: Beautiful Illustrations. Good Articles. Good Recipes
Disadvantages: Lots of Adverts
...Food & Wine is a US-based magazine with very much an upmarket image. It is in many respects a rival to such publications as Gourmet and Gourmet Traveller.
Frankly I do not subcribe to it but read it when I visit several local gourmet eateries that have copies in their magazine rack and I also found a copy in a Doctor's surgery. As I had rather a long wait I managed to just about read it cover to cover.
This is a beautifully illustrated magazine with loads of recipes and the recipes are shown in all their colour and glory. Some of the recipes are for ordinary cooks like me for I think I can cope with Grilled Salmon but others are decidely up market and you might have some difficulty locating all the exotic ingredients. A very helpful feature is that there is an index of recipes at the back of the magazine.
It is a lot more than...

Where's The Wine?
Advantages: Quite Tasty
Disadvantages: Covered In Sugar
...I got home a couple of nights ago, turned on my PC and settled down to eat a packet (or at least part of a packet) of Fruit Pastilles only to discover in horror, that in my hurry to pick up the local newspaper and something to chew on, on the way home from work, I'd made a bit of a boob and must have picked up a packet of Wine Pastilles in error.
The look on my face must have been comical, my other half said I looked like a little spoilt child with my bottom lip stuck out, and eyes bulging like they were about to burst.
I must admit I hadn't actually had Wine Pastilles before so after the initial disappointment had worn off I decided to give them a try.
The Background
Wine Pastilles were originally made by a company called Maynard's who are the same people that make the Fruit Pastilles and Wine Gums. Maynard have been making...

Fine Virgin Wines
Advantages: Great value boutique wines
Disadvantages: The on-line wine auctions are addictive!
...I have been buying from Virgin Wines for about three years and I have been consistently impressed with the quality and value for money of their wines. They have got a very good range of wines from all around the world, which vary in price from as little as £4 right up to £85 for a bottle of Dom Perignon 2000.
I belong to their Wine Bank, which is effectively a loyalty programme. You pay £20 each month into the Wine Bank and every three months Virgin Wines will add another £20 in interest, so when you come to buy your wine you effectively get 25% off. You can pay more into your Wine Bank if you want to and you will be rewarded with a reciprocal amount of interest (i.e. £30 a month would attract £30 interest and so on). Because most of the wines they stock are generally small production 'boutique' wines, you cannot buy them anywhere...

Here's one I made earlier!
Advantages: Great quality food, good tuition
Disadvantages: focus on preparation, strange choice of meals
...My husband bought me not one, but two cookery classes for Christmas. I am a very keen amateur, I love cookbooks and cooking shows on the telly, so he was not being offensive! The first of the classes was at Leith's School of Food and Wine, which I attended a couple of days ago.
Whilst the school does professional courses, I was a mere enthusiastic amateur, and I cannot review the professional courses.
----------BACKGROUND------------
Leith?s can be found in Kensington, London. They offer courses for professionals and for ?enthusiastic amateurs?. They were established in 1975. They do not have any associated restaurant or catering businesses, although they do publish a variety of cook books.
---------- COURSES ---------------
Professional courses:
They do a variety of certificates and diplomas in food and wine...

Food for thought
Advantages: Compare foods you like to my preferences
Disadvantages: The 'Marmite' will stir up a debate I'm sure, lol
...What! Only 10 foods? Of all the MILLIONS/ BILLIONS of food products out there we can only pick 10? Well, I suppose you'd get bored by my 100th or so one..or tenth...
In no particular order; let's begin
1. Fish
-Smoked Haddock, Salmon, Cod, sea bass or tuna. Haddock is delcious in a pitta bread with scrambled egg or haselback potatoes. Salmon fillet is divine if you top it with mayo, crushed seasoned cornflakes with garlic and then drizzled with a cheese sauce. Smoked salmon slices mixed into mash with cheese spread! emm. And tuna, mix it with onion and some chutney to get fish fruity.
Make your own fish pie or chop it up into an omelete. Fish is sooo nutritional, versatile and delcious. Not a fan of sardines, herring; trout and the lark, or with heads and eyes still on!
Prawns - league of there own. Nice just out the pack...

Quick and tasty food
Advantages: Quick cooking times , tasty food, saves energy, convenient
Disadvantages: Needs a better instruction book and a recipe book, no lid holder
...BACKGROUND INFORMATION
My mum bought the JML Halogen Oven after our main oven decided to give up the ghost. We'd seen infomercials about the Halogen Oven and it was something we were thinking of getting at some point. I liked the idea of having a counter top oven, and something that would cook food quickly but retained flavour. We did look at a similar product, but it was out of our price range.
HOW MY MUM BOUGHT THE PRODUCT
IMy mum bought her Halogen Oven over the phone, but you can also order it online from the JML website at www.jmldirect.com, and by Mail Order.
The Halogen Oven cost £59.99 and the delivery charge was £4.95. My mum ordered the oven on a Tuesday evening, and the oven was delivered on the Friday.
WHO IS JML?
JML (or John Mills Ltd) has been trading for around 40 years. The company operates...

Vacuum sealing food the easy way
Advantages: Easy to operate
Disadvantages: It is a bit fiddly
...I love my gadgets and I am a complete sucker for the TV shopping channels so when I saw that JML had got their own channel I couldn't resist watching it one wet afternoon recently. They were doing a demonstration of the JML Vacuum Food Sealer and I was intrigued as I sat and watched.
Basically it is a very simple machine which will either vacuum seal food into polythene bags or just seal (without vacuum). It looked pretty simple and effective and they were demonstrating a range of uses for it. Given that I cook a lot of meals for one and often 'batch cook' and weekends and make my own home made ready meals for one which I freeze down this looked like quite a useful machine.
One of the problems with shopping for one is that many times I buy fresh meat, bacon or cooked meats and end up having to have the same food over and over to...

An Excellent Cat Food
Advantages: See Review
Disadvantages: Price
...Orijen cat and Kitten Dry Food:
The last time I was browsing round the Zooplus website I noticed some ?Orijen? dry cat food which said it was suitable for adult cats and kittens of all breeds and that is was supposed to be exceptionally good for your cats health. I read a few of the reviews and decided to give Orijen a go.
When the food arrived I was amazed by the ingredients, Tifa has never had it so good and is currently eating better than me! As the ingredients are so amazing I am going to include them in my review below.
The food consists of 75% premium animal ingredients, (de-boned chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, northern whitefish, chicken fat, de-boned turkey, salmon meal, salmon and anchovy oils, de-boned salmon, chicken broth and free-range eggs). The chicken and turkey are grain fed and the fish is wild...

I need food!
Advantages: Healthy eating, healthy happy child.
Disadvantages: Messy?
...Weaning is a very exciting milestone for parents and babies, but some parents find this time to be a little daunting too.
Weaning is a gradual process that requires time and patience. The weaning experience is different with every child. It is always a good time to start when you and your baby are in good health, and are feeling relaxed. It is also best to delay the weaning process if your baby is adapting to anything else such as teething.
Health experts recommend that you wait until your baby has reached 6 months of age, to prevent your baby from getting allergies, and because a baby's digestive system is not ready until this age. However some parents wean their babies before this age.
I think as a parent you know when your baby is ready for food; some babies need extra nourishment when milk alone does not satisfy them so...
