Notta Lotta Dosh to fill your trolley at Farm Foods
Advantages: Inexpensive foods and lots of choice
Disadvantages: Can't do a 'complete shop' in the one store.
...FARMFOODS EQUALS GREAT VALUE
"Freezing in the Freshness" and "Great Food at Amazing Prices"
These are the slogans used by Farmfoods, a chain of shops that tend to have a bit of a stigma against them, as cheap shops selling low quality foods.
With this review I hope that I am able to prove that these facts are both wrong and that I am able introduce you to the benefits of becomming a Farmfood shopper!!
Farmfoods is a Scottish company, it started in Aberdeen in 1955 and now has around 300 shops throughout Great Britain. It is a Farmfoods is a discount supermarket chain that specialises in frozen food. They also sell a wide range of everyday items like soft drinks, toilet paper, confectionery, bread, milk, desserts, fresh fruit and vegetables all at reduced prices.
I live near to Lancaster, and one thing...

Me and my food shopping
Advantages: food
Disadvantages: food
...French Cancan and Jill Murphy were wondering how y'all do your food shopping, what you buy, what you cook and how you eat. So they decided to run a survey. M. CanCan will, after a decent interval, collate the results and report upon them. So, it would be most super-duper if you would all answer our questions. Could you drop them a note in their guest books if and when you do? Thankee!
Here you go then...
Q1: If your yearly food budget was £100, how much would you say you currently spend in big retailers – eg supermarkets? Explain why you spend so much or so little there?
I my my it’s a long time ago since I only spent as little as that a month let alone a year. I guess at the moment for about every £100 pounds I spend at the supermarket on food I spend about 90 - 95 pounds at the supermarket.
I would in...

Great store for non food shopping
Advantages: Prices, choice, opening hours, staff
Disadvantages: Painfully slow check outs
...I only use Asda for non food shopping, for food I usually use Tesco & on some occasions Sainsbury's. My local Asda (with the Wal-Mart name above the door) is a two storey monster of a store with a matching two storey car park next door. The lower section is dedicated to food & an escalator takes you & your trolley (yes, really!) up to the non food section. This particular store recorded over 170.000 people through its doors in the first week of trading, breaking the UK record at the time.
When it comes to non-food items, this is where Asda excels, they sell budget brands & famous brands, something for everyone & very competitively priced too. Looking for a camera, they have unknown budget brands for little money & more famous names like Sony, Nikon or Canon if you want to spend a little more.
They have a huge selection of DVDs...

Farm Food Shopping
Advantages: low prices, great for party food
Disadvantages: sometimes out of special offer products, some foods high in fat
...If you need to stock up your freezer with quick convenience foods, then this is the place to come.
Very good value store, especially for things like chips/pototo products, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, sausages, sausage rolls etc. Excellent if you want party food.
Not very good if you follow a healthy eating plan, and need low fat foods, as a lot of their meals are high in fat.
They do a good range range of puddings, ice creams, frozen fruit and pies. Their gateaux are very good value and a good size too.
Their blue and white carrier bags are free and are very strong and big, so are useful for mny other things.
They are low priced, and always have a selection of good offers on - which can sometimes be out of stock....

Food shopping - the long way round
Advantages: I'm pretty good with my shopping
Disadvantages: Still some bad habits lurking in the freezer!
...Since every other review on the most recent list in the Cafe is an answer to this challenge, I thought I'd leap in with my own - I think it seems very interesting!
This challenge/survey/questionnaire *delete as appropriate* was invented by Jill Murphy and French CanCan, and I think I should include their notation;
?French CanCan and I were wondering how y'all do your food shopping, what you buy, what you cook and how you eat. So we decided to run a survey. M. CanCan will, after a decent interval, collate the results and report upon them. So, it would be most super-duper if you would all answer our questions. Food, Glorious Food
Advantages: Eating stuff that tastes good.
Disadvantages: I can't think of a single one.

Q1: If your yearly food budget was £100, how much would you say you currently spend in big retailers ? eg supermarkets? Explain why you spend so much or so little there?
Oh, this is a good one! I've been on a mission to reduce the amount I spend at supermarkets for the past two years. Currently, my spend from £100 would be around £20-£25. Supermarkets have too much power. Increasingly, as they expand into ever more markets - insurance...

From Farm To Fork: The Modern Food Chain
Advantages: Eradicated some disease, some efficiencies
Disadvantages: Use of Fossil Fuels, Pollution, Destruction of the Ecosystem
...grow your own foods, and the nutrient quality should be far better than something that was picked in New Zealand or South America weeks and months ago and transported by sea. The food tastes a lot better too.
If you can find a local grower, such as a farm shop, then these often have foods which are grown within a much narrower radius than Tescos?..
Waste organic food can be recycled via a compost heap and fed to the soil in the garden for plant use (which is good for the ecosystem).
Even if you have to shop at supermarkets, you can ensure you don't buy foods which are over packaged or over processed. Even supermarket carrier bags are having a major detrimental effect on the environment, so buying a strong reusable carrier bag from a green organisation. Carrier bags are evil to the environment It is no argument to say you...

Food for thought
Advantages: One can avoid supermarkets if one tries hard enough
Disadvantages: I don?t try hard enough
...Jill Murphy and the French CanCan ? now, there was a thought to quicken the pulse and set the imagination high-kicking and petticoat-shaking. But alas, it seems that, in this case, French CanCan is simply the Ciao member of that name, and that all they want is to know about my shameful shopping habits.
Well, at least that?s easily done. Their questions and my answers are: -
* Q1 * : If your yearly food budget was £100, how much would you say you currently spend in big retailers ? e.g. supermarkets? Explain why you spend so much or so little there?
~ Answer ~ : I?m guessing a bit, since I don?t keep records, but probably at least £80 out of every £100 I spend on food is in supermarkets. The reasons are: (i) convenience, (ii) price, and (iii) lack of availability of some items elsewhere. Of course, not all these...
