Disadvantages: time consuming, a lot of effort, has to be tailored to each school

...Very briefly as the wife of a man who was made redundant the thought of the Job Centre plus being helpful no longer exists. As a mortgage holder and family with two school age children my husband was only entitled to Job Seeks Allowance (JSA). This was paid for 26 weeks and then after still not successful in securing employment, this was stopped. Because I work more than 20 hours a week (I am still only part time) I am expected to support the family and bills. My husband has never been asked how much I earn. This assessment is merely done of the hours I work and not the take home pay coming into the home. Having never claimed any benefits at all before this (but we are in a recession as you all know) we enquired about training and extra help, but, alas, there was no entitlement apparently. Advantages: By signing on every 2 weeks you get some money.
Disadvantages: The staff are not very well trained.

I have worked since I was 17 only taking 6 months maternity leave for each of my 2 children. When I was made redundant on 6th July 2008, the last thing on my mind was signing on for job seekers allowance. The Italian Job

Advantages: action and entertainment
Disadvantages: far cry from the origanal

...the 21st century, as is the storyline and the hi tech gadgets that are used to pull off the bullion robbery. The new style Mini Cooper, (which aren't so mini anymore) are re-introduced, racing again through the sewers and the subway systems after bringing L.A. to a complete gridlock. There are a few similarities between the '69 movie and this remake but the main movie is totally different. I suppose if this movie was given a different title I may have enjoyed it more as I was constantly comparing it to the original, so this spoiled it slightly for me as I was totally lost as to why this was called 'the Italian Job'?? considering most of the car chases and the action was in Los Angeles?? Maybe they should have called it 'The L.A. Job? with the stuff we nicked from Italy'..?? Don't get me wrong, this is an action packed movie...

...It's not often that a remake of a classic movie is a hit but in my opinion the 2003 version of the Italian Job was a great movie. The original version of the film is classified as a British caper film with lots of darsterdly deeds. It came out in 1969 and starred Michael Caine. Now I can't say that I've seen this version but from all accounts it was a classic. Apparently, according to an article I read, in 2004 the magazine Total Film named The Italian Job the 27th greatest British film of all time. The line "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!", said by Michael Caine in the film, was voted the favourite movie one-liner in a 2003 poll of 1000 movie fans. Is the job centre really helping us with unemployment?!

Advantages: You recieve help for looking for a job.

I visited the website every other day and found that I was applying for around 3-4 jobs a week just off their website (a little less now because of the economy.). A centre to find jobs, or just to be a scrounger!

Advantages: Helpful staff, good up to date website.
Disadvantages: Long waits, queues for jobsearch machines.

...As a few of you will already know I have recently lost my job (good old credit crunch!) so I have been using the jobcentre website and the jobcentre visiting centre (store just isn't the right word is it "hello, i'd like a job please) and this review is based on the jobcentre in Harlow, Essex. To sign up for jobseekers allowance I had to ring an 0800 number and get asked a number of questions (including pregnancy information - i'm not, gender, nationality, do I have the right to work here blah de blah) and this took around 30 minutes. I was very pleased with the person I spoke with, he was very helpful and got through the questions as fast as possible. I had been told it could take up to 45 minutes but thankfully it was a little less. Once I had finished giving him all the details I was told that I was eligible for jobseekers...
