Ford Escort : 'Credit Crunch Car'

...The 1.4 Ford Escort is quite a car in many ways. Featuring 5 doors, a large boot and a sun roof, this spacious car certainly has all the features. It pretty much has everything you find in a standard car, except power steering which can make moving when stationary a hard task. Being quite an old car means the Ford Escort is an ideal first car because the insurance is only around £60-£70 a month for someone aged 20-22. I was fully insured for my first year, as this is when most people have a few minor scrapes and bumps as they're new to the road. Then I moved onto third party fire and theft for my second year, as I had gained good experience and confidence from driving solidly for a year.   AFFORDABLE FORDS - VAUXHALLS, ROVERS, MAZDAS ETC.

Advantages: Vast selection of cars, low mileage, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Gets very busy at weekends

Ford fiesta a great economic car

Advantages: Cheap to run, good spec, handleing, good motorway drive
Disadvantages: not many(if any)

...I like my Fords I have had 3 a focus and two fiestas and never had a problem (best touch some wood now) at all this is the third fiesta I purchased. I bought the fiesta to replace a fiesta, which was the last of the old generation; I purchased the car for my wife who travels a long distance daily at least 60 miles a day. The car she had before was a .25 zetec, which were good but not that good on fuel it being a small engine pounding the motorway was quite thirsty so I opted or should I say I advised we get a diesel. I have a diesel focus zetec and it is great on fuel, having had the car for two weeks we have had to only put half as much fuel in as before on the older car. In a two week stint it used to have fuel put in at least twice, a tank a week this new 1.4 diesel fiesta only requires a fuel up once in two weeks. Bare in mind...

Used cars from Ford Direct

Advantages: Ford Direct gives 2 years warranty and 2 years RAC
Disadvantages: Can't see the actual car beforehand and prices fairly fixed

...I have been considering getting a car from Ford Direct. On the face of it, it seems simple - a good scheme whereby you tell your local dealer the type, colour, etc of Ford you want, he searches a nationwide database and gets it delivered to his garage for you. All this plus the benefit of 2 years full manufacturers warranty and 2 years RAC, the car having been inspected and serviced by Ford beforehand. It's a good scheme to a point but there some snags. For example the search engine on the dealers computer is somewhat limited - it dosn't recognise that ABS is standard on some models for example so when I asked for that feature it came up with none in the country which we knew wasn't true. Also the price shown on the dealers screen is plus £260 for delivery from one of 3 Ford holding depots in the UK plus VAT on the lot. In theory...

I was greeted by David Beckhurst, who was extremely polite and asked if I required any help, I told him that I was just looking. He said that if I needed anything, he would be happy to help me. I was looking at the Ford Focus, and was having a little trouble with the seating position. David spotted me from across the showroom and came to help me. Advantages: comfotable, reliable and easy to drive!

...being a technician for ford, i come across these cars at least 3 times a week and i can tell you now that they are one of the best in the ford range. they beat the new ford focus hands down with interior and the power and economy are much the same. being a zetec rather than a duratorque means it is slightly slower than the new ford focus, but only at bottom end, when this gets into the higher revs it really starts to show its true colours. now its not all about power, speed and torque. the interior is very nice and can come in a variety of materials and colours. one of the things that you have to watch out for on these cars are the fact that there was a batch that had faulty instrument cluster, or to some people, speedometers. it means that you can be driving along and all of a sudden the handbrake light will come on, or the oil...
