Ford Focus 2.0 ESP
Advantages: Great driving, reliable car
Disadvantages: Ford service department
...I bought my Ford Focus in June 2006, second hand from Ford with 38,000 miles on the clock. The model I own is a 2.0 ESP facelift, with the revised headlights which include the indicator, revised bumpers with bump strips & revised metal flush skirts.
Now, in August 2007 the car is on the brink of hitting 70,000 miles and it literally hasn't missed a beat. The only parts that I have had to replace that are none wear and tear are the thermorstat housing seal (Ford however will try and charge you to replace the whole housing, where infact it is invariably just the rubber seal which perishes), and a n/s/f ball joint due to excessive play when being tested for an MOT, a grand total of about £50 non-expected maintenance. Not bad at all for 30,000 miles of motoring in just over a year. And as a furthur point of note, the Michelin Pilot...

Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec
Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked
...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs.
I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for.
I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in.
The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair.
The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

Zetec Power
Advantages: fast and ecnomical
Disadvantages: not an ST or RS
...I have a 2003 mk1 ford focus 2.0l zetec 3dr version in Neptune Green, it sounds amazing, the speed is epic considering it has no turbo and the ride is very smooth. I put on 18" alloys that helped the car with handing corners better but in the processhass slowed the overall speed of the car.
if you drive causiously you can get good mpg but if you put your foot down i doubt that you will get better than 20mpg. the car sounds a bit like a quiet diesel in low revs but then transforms into a roaring monster once you hit 3000 revs. it has everyhing from tracion control, drilled front and back disc brakes to heated front leather seats. its cheap on road tax and ok on insurance but it will obviously be cheaper if you have the 1.6l or 1.8l zetec engines.
i wanted to get an ST170 but im more that happy with my 2.0l 16v zetec engine as it is...

Ford Mondeo Zetec 2.0 16v 2003 Model
Advantages: Large interior, stylish looks, comfortable drive
Disadvantages: High road tax band
...Well where to begin, bought my mondeo from a mate who wanted a quick sale before travelling the globe. Got the car for a steal £5000 24,000 miles on the clock in 2005. Had the car just over a year now and its been an absolute dream.
Lets start with its looks, modern styling and a great colour moondust silver. Alloy wheels, front fog lights, front and rear heated screens, electric mirrors, remote central locking, power steering, abs, air conditioning, ice and frost warning indicators, air bags all over the car front back and side curtains, fords IPS system (intelligent protection system), cd/radio all as standard.
Inside, the car is massive, I've got three kids, 2 still in car seats and with the third in the middle they all look tiny and have plenty of room, so much I don't get kicked in the back anymore. The best part is they...

Ford Focus Ghia 2ltr saloon. (Update 22nd May 05)
Advantages: Good all round visibility, responsive acceleration, on board computer, fold-down rear seats.
Disadvantages: difficult removal of rear headrests
...and truly hooked
The next thing I worried about was the insurance - the car being a 2 litre, so he made a quick phonecall to FordSure (Ford Insurance) and came up with a quote of £246.15 - that was nearly £100 cheaper than the Saga cover I had with my Escort. Then came the question of fuel economy on a 2 litre. The older Ford 2 litres had always proved to be somewhat thirsty.
The Focus had an on-board computer that was showing a cruising consumption of 40+ to the gallon on the test drive and if I wanted performance - boy was it quick! I was convinced. This was no Escort - in comparison it was motoring luxury. Ford had really got it together with this quirky looking motor. After the test drive, I had fallen in love with it - I just had to buy it.
Other pleasant surprises followed. I discovered the cambelt was guaranteed for up to 100...

looking ford a new car??
Advantages: comfotable, reliable and easy to drive!
Disadvantages: instrument clusters are prone to breaking.
...being a technician for ford, i come across these cars at least 3 times a week and i can tell you now that they are one of the best in the ford range. they beat the new ford focus hands down with interior and the power and economy are much the same. being a zetec rather than a duratorque means it is slightly slower than the new ford focus, but only at bottom end, when this gets into the higher revs it really starts to show its true colours.
now its not all about power, speed and torque. the interior is very nice and can come in a variety of materials and colours.
one of the things that you have to watch out for on these cars are the fact that there was a batch that had faulty instrument cluster, or to some people, speedometers. it means that you can be driving along and all of a sudden the handbrake light will come on, or the oil...

Ford Focus 1.6 zetec
Advantages: handling, value for money, performance
Disadvantages: badge snobbery, plastic trim
...I drive a 2002 model of this Focus. I acquired it reluctantly from a family member a couple of years ago however I am very pleased with it. It looks quite bland to many but I think it's quite understated, which I like.
I have had a few "sporty" cars over recent years but the handling of the Focus is better than any of them. Staying within the speed limits, on B roads it's really enjoyable and stays nice and flat round corners. When people talk about the handling I use to think that the average driver who uses a car to commute and go on family trips wouldn't really notice it much but I have to say I do.
As for performance it drives well on motorways and has all the acceleration you'll ever likely to need. On top of that, the exhaust has quite a nice tone too. Loses it's punchiness if there are 2 adults in the back...

Ford Mondeo 2.0 Si
Advantages: Good looks, versatile large boot, handling.
Disadvantages: For us none.
...company they have adapted over the years thorugh all the up's and down's that the car market has been through and I think they have come out a winner and now as well as the Ford Motor Company they also own Aston Martin, Jaguar and own 25% of Mazda. When is a Ford a Ford you may ask yourself, I think that the influence of the other companies under the umbrella of Ford have brought in thier own little touches and as a result they are making some great Cars.
Some models you will know of are
Fiesta.
Escort.
Focus.
Sierra.
Granada.
Ka.
Galaxy.
Cortina.
Capri,
Consul.
Puma.
This is without naming the commercial vehicles Ford make.
Some of these Cars are now classics and are treated as such. The famous Blue Badge has now become a legend and I think Henry would be proud.

Focused driving
Advantages: Stylish, good drive
Disadvantages: Price
...and told me there is nothing they can do at present as this is a known fault with 2l Focus's. Ford are working on a fix to this problem and I will be contacted when a fix is available.
The price can be a bit high but when you see all the extras that you get (especially now you get a 3 year warranty) it seems worth it....

Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec C-MAX.
Advantages: Roomy, upmarket quality & quiet.
Disadvantages: Hand brake position needs getting used to.
...,000 and engine seems very lively. Have just had the screen washer pump pack up, but this will be replaced under warranty! Security, full remote central locking with deadlocks. It has an interior alarm & you can specify perimeter alarm( extra). Engine immobiliser. Shielded door locks. Price wise, there have been some discounting on some of the models in the range and the LX and Zetec models are the ones to buy. Some problems have been encountered with the electronic parking brake fitted on the Ghia models but Fords are on top of this. Still the best engines to go for are the Diesels, the 2.0 Litre is a little flyer! Will keep you posted as to how the C Max fares in the future.
Have now bought the focus hatchback as replacement (01/09/2007),
but used the C max to go to Harwich in before getting it, carried 4 adults and luggage for a cruise and had...
