Ford KA 1.3i Flare Orange
Advantages: Simple and economical - perfect first car
Disadvantages: Heavy doors, smallish boot, lack of technology (simple)
...This is my first car and i LOVE it. Mine is flare orange and it is great. a full tank of petrol will last be about 4 weeks!! Its nippy and easy to manouver. Bends, small car park spaces, hills, the lot, the KA handles it all very well. However, the doors are quite heavy and large and the boot is a bit disappointing but what do you expect from such a compact car. Mine is a 53 reg but had no cd player when i purchased it. However, i fitted a modern cd player in myself with no trouble what so ever (and being female that says a lot!). I was also disppointed with the lack of electric windows, central locking and air conditioning for such a modern car but if your looking for a simple and economical first time car then this is perfect, i have no regrets about this car. The shape and colour range is all for the girls and some of the colours are...

Ford's KA - Luxury
Advantages: Great economy, luxury trim, cute car
Disadvantages: A bit slow
...mfhome was disappointed too, when she first got the car, as she had previously had a rover 216GTi which was quite fast.
The Ka has a 1.3L fuel injected 8 valve engine. Yep, it is slow but it's still plenty functional around town and will cruise very happily at 70 on the motorway, it will even pick up further to allow overtaking but it struggles to keep up with high speed traffic on motorways. If you are used to 16 valve engines then you'll be surprised by the lack of power at high revs, however, once you get used to this it can make for more relaxed driving. You don't have to "rev like mad" to get the power, what power it has is there all the time, shame that the power is so wimpy though.
The fuel economy helps ease this disappointment. I won't give an MPG as I honestly don't know, we get about 230 miles for £20.
The handling...

Ford KA 1.3
Advantages: Looks, Interior, Reliabilty (besides airbag)
Disadvantages: Airbag, pre1998 cars, back space.
...The Ford KA, officially an icon for Ford. The Ka was introduced in 1996 and my girlfriend bought the 1998 KA 1 model as her first car. It was obviously a 3-door model (the only option) but it was in a weird colour, it looked like brown, grey and silver mixed into one, but it was listed in the logbook as grey.
The KA was originally designed to only have black plastic bumpers so in the event of a minor crash they could easily and cheaply be replaced. This model has the black bumpers, but having done 72000miles upon purchase they had done a feint grey colour and although the black bumper/trim polish is easy and cheap to buy from Halfords or anywhere, I would recommend (if you can afford it) to buy a colour coded one as they just look better and don?t have to be repainted even if the car doesn?t need it- as the black ones do.
I...

You Can In A Ka
Advantages: Fun to drive. VERY distinctive looks. Good handling. A very practical and easy to drive car.
Disadvantages: Not a lot of extras. A "girly" image. restricted choice of engines and specifications.
...today, some seven years after its launch, the Ka still sells in high numbers, and the recent addition to the range of two new “sports” versions, the “SportsKa” and the open-topped 1.6-litre “StreetKa”, will no doubt boost sales even further. (Ford is selling out the “StreetKa” before it even hits the showrooms!)
~ ~ The Ka I had out on hire was the latest generation 1.3-litre “Collection” model. It’s still based on the old Ford Fiesta chassis, but has a far livelier 1297cc engine than the older models, which pumps out 68bhp at 5,500rpm.
What this means is that it’s a bit nippier than in the past, although with a 0 to 60mph time of just a shade over 14 seconds, you’re hardly likely to be taking part in the sequel to the movie “The Fast and the Furious”...

Ford Ka 1.3 1999
Advantages: looks, small, easy to use
Disadvantages: space
...I was bought this car when i passed my test. I have had my car for about two months and since then i have found the car to have good points about it and also some bas points.
Space: The ford KA is a small car but in the front i have found that it is enough space with myself in it but not with me and my boyfriend in it as his arm and legs is always in the way of me changing gears and the glovebox is well too small.
The back of the car is small but not as small as i heard it would be, i can fit my sons pram in the back also a baby car seat and still have some room.
The boot is okay is suppose i have had to buy a small pram to fit in the boot.
The car is small and easy to use as it is a doddle to park up, it is ok on the petrol and also the insurance is cheap for first time drivers.
The ford ka brought my insurance down...

Ford Ka-No Thanks
Advantages: Comfortable to drive
Disadvantages: Poor visability, not much luggage space or room in the back seats
...As we had no car we had to hire a car to go to Torquay on holiday. The cheapest one available to us was the Ford Ka at £160 for the week. I wasn`t too happy when I found out what car I was getting as I think they look odd and ugly and I have always seen them as a bit of a "girls" car but I had been a passenger in one before and found them quite comfortable so I was willing to give it a chance. I think one of the factors that make them ugly are the contrasting black bumpers but on this car they were the same colour as the rest of the body so it didn`t look too bad.
At 6`1" I had to push the drivers seat as far back as it would go and still found it a little bit cramped for my legs. Because the seat was pushed right back there wasn`t much room on the back seat for a six year old let alone an adult to sit so it was a good job that it was...

FORD KA
Advantages: fits in my garage!
Disadvantages: small engine
...you need to put your groceries on the back seat, but if this doesn't bother you then go for it!
And what's it like on motorways? Well yes, the 1.3 engine isn't bad, but coming off slip roads, I find I need to FLOOR it to get it moving fast enough. Don't get me wrong, this little bug can do 90, but you need to let it unfold its wings before it'll get there. However, you do get about 50 miles per gallon, which is good!
We've driven this on long journeys across the country (300 miles non stop) and the car holds up beautifully, never breaking down even though it's seven years old now (though we have always garaged it - but hey, you get what you put in!). Sometimes I've spent time trying to sleep on the backseat, and it doesn't work. I've never come across a Ford in which I could sleep. However, 6ft2 ex boyfy and I did once manage to...

MY KA2
Advantages: fun to drive, cheap insurance, low cost driving
Disadvantages: not much legroom in the back
...has a 1.3 engine, and parts are cheap as there are plenty of Ford garages around.
OTHER EXTRAS
The KA has other features including a headlamp levelling switch to adjust your lights according to how heavy a load you are carrying, a fresh air filter to ensure the air that enters the car is free from particles such as pollen and road dust, a fuel filler lock cap which will only unlock with the ignition key, immobiliser which is activated after 5 seconds, catalytic converter to reduce air pollution, fuel injection shut off switch which is activated in the event of an accident to cut off the fuel supply. As well as all this the KA has bright yellow identification caps on all components that need our care and attention underneath the bonnet.

I bought the copper KA2 that i saw on the forecourt that day and it...

Go Ka Go!
Advantages: extremely easy to park
Disadvantages: seen as a 'girly' which can put a lot of people off
...I don't get what everyone has against Ford Kas. I really don't.
Perhaps I'm biased. The first car I ever owned was a Ka, and I guess everyone feels affection fro their first runaround. Ironically now I'm stuck with a Corsa, which I hate, and think longingly of the days I had my baby to toodle about in.
Anyway, to get some decent facts in. My Ka was a bog-standard red model, 1997 reg, 3 owners from new. And it ran like a dream! Not once in the year I had it did I encounter anything more frustrating than a tracking problem (and I'm telling you, that kerb wasn't there before I moved...)!
The Ka does have a 'girly' image and i think this is mainly due to the simplicity of its design. There aren't ten billion different sizes of engine to choose from - nor are they particularly easy to modify and look cool (or so I'm told). Therefore...

Ford KA - not just for girls - it's for punks too!
Advantages: Tardis-like interior, fuel economic, low premium, good extras inc CD player etc
Disadvantages: Can pull and lacks torque at times
...I won't go deep into Clarkson mode but instead give you a real-world opinion of this car.
We bought our Ford KA as a replacement for a 26-year-old Austin Mini HL. We were going to fix the Mini when it failed its MOT but decided to sell it and buy a new car.
We looked around for a while, not really sure of what to buy. For a long time we were thinking of buying a newer classic Mini but kept other cars in mind, specifically the new breed of super-minis such as the KA, Aygo etc. In the the end, after a successful test drive, we opted for a 2002 Kord KA 1.3i Collection.
Long Journeys
We got the car with 32000 on the clock for £3200 from a dealership in Greater Manchester. Immediately we had to test out her long journey skills by driving from Manchester...
