Mondeo 1.8TD, Cheap to buy,Run, Reliable and won't let you down
Advantages: Cheap to buy, easily maintained.
Disadvantages: Bumpers are easily damaged.
...We have owned three of these and can't fault them, Good performance and plenty of room inside with a big plus that they are reliable and are cheap to repair and maintain.
I would go for the Aircon model for when the sun does actually shine and it should not cost you much more for extras such as CD player alloy wheels etc.
The estate versions are a particularly good workhorse with a large easy accessible load area with the split rear seats folded down,
As an ex mechanic I reckon the engines are good for over 200,000 miles if they get regular oil and filter changes. Servicing is straightforward if you are a DIY fan.
All in all I can't fault the Mondeo for a reasonably priced family car or in the estate version a dual purpose vehicle for the small businessman/Tradesman...

Ford TDCI 1.8
Advantages: Full house
Disadvantages: Boot space
...Well living here in South Africa Ford is not one of the more popular rides to buy. Most of the people I know look at me funny when I tell them that I have bought a Ford.
Well that is until I have taken them for a drive. The car really impresses me on how it just seems to glide no hassles to it. I have had my TDCi now just over a month and love every kilo of it. There are little changes to get used to, as my prev car was opel astra petrol.
I wanted to buy a diesel car for so long and after taking the TDCi for a test a came back and signed on the dotted line.
Getting used to the turbo and the diesel took some but I am fine now. The car goes up to 180 km per hour like nothing and doesn't really drop speed. I can cruise on 160 up and down hill no prob's at all.
My fuel consumption is still a bit high but with only 1600km...

Another great Mondeo
Advantages: Reliable good handling and cheap to run.
Disadvantages: Depreciation.
...I traded in my old 1.8LX Mondeo last year after 9 very reliable years motoring and 125,000 on the clock.
I am now the proud owner of an Xreg (new shape)1.8LX(petrol) hatchback which had 13,500 miles.
This cost £8995 but the specification was a revelation. ABS,Power steering,6 airbags,CD player,Air Con,electric windows front and back and heated windscreen(great in the winter). There is a small container for your sunglasses in the centre of the roof above the drivers head accessed by a spring push clip. This is a great idea as you can reach up take out your glasses without taking your eye of the road or scrabbling in the glove compartment, so in effect it is a safety feature.Trivial I know and no reason to buy a Mondeo although it does demonstrate attention to detail. The boot is very spacious as in most of the larger Fords
The LX is in...

Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 Ghia (2004)
Advantages: High MPG, Comfortable, Quite and plenty of leg room.
Disadvantages: Extra costs hidden in services
...During the second years service (2006) the dealer discovered the scuttle cover was warped and needed replacing.
New scuttle cover / pollen filter cover was fitted, and anti-bacterial spray treatment applied - the cost was over £44.00. (Removal of the scuttle destroys the seal and it has to be replaced).
As the car is less than 2 years old I suggested it should come under a warranty replacement.
The dealer said I would have to take the issue up with Ford.
This I did and the Ford customer service department stated they have no history of there being a problem with the Focus scuttle cover, the scuttle cover is part of the trim and is therefore not covered under any warrantee agreement, and they would not honour any refund to me.
I said that I have the part that was removed and would be willing to send the part to them...

Mondeo Man
Advantages: Nice car to drive, Prices are coming down for below average examples
Disadvantages: Very hard to do any kind of DIY work on
...do not drive anywhere as good as they petrol counterparts which are far more lively.
Today Ive had it in for an MOT to find it failed on two rusty brake pipes( easy to fix), back lights because of a wiring fault and a leak in the power steering rack which I already knew about so Im quite happy even when I know its a complete pig to change the racks. I was worried about engine smoke as it does seem bad, but it passed the omissions test so Im very happy.I forget that Turbo diesels are normally smokey anyway.
The car drives very well, and I find I can get a good seating position bacause of the tilt and slide steering colulm and the height ajustable drivers seat.
One thing that was upset me, is that I drove a Ford Escort which was a group 6 and now Im on the Mondeo which is a group 8. Im shocked that a rise of 2 groups has resulted in...

my best ever ford
Advantages: Cheap, reliable, low running costs, a must ford.
Disadvantages: none to date
...I was never really in to fords until I had 2 Sierra?s. I brought my Mondeo Mk2, W reg from a car supermarket, after careful consideration of other makes/models I chose my saloon 1.8 LX because of the spec. It was such a high specification For an LX model, it has, elec windows, mirrors, air con, ABS, traction control, rear vented discs, leather gear knob, heated screen, 3 rear head rests etc etc. I have only seen a few other LX models on the road with this sort of trim level as most are very basic.
The ride quality amazes me, it makes you feel very safe, the car seems to sit high of the ground but the handling is superb. The steering is very good to, not to light or to stiff makes good parking, but seeing the front of the bonnet for a small person could be tricky.
The engines in my opinion are very good, I don?t tend to drive that...

Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec C-MAX.
Advantages: Roomy, upmarket quality & quiet.
Disadvantages: Hand brake position needs getting used to.
...7 footers! Upholstery is plain side panels with inset silvery zig zag finish, it comes in 2 colours according to the paint colour.ie Dark has light upholstery & light has dark finish.
TOYS, adjustable steering column, upwards & in & outwards. Intermittent variable wipers with the advantage of speed for front match the speed for the rear wiper. If the front wipers are on and you go into reverse the rear wiper automatically wipes. Built in computer, giving mileage, MPG, amount of fuel left in tank, average speed, low outside temp and for those of you that go abroad changeable miles to kilometres.
The engine, comes in 1.6 petrol/1.6 turbo diesel, 1.8 petrol & 2litre turbo diesel. Rated at 110 BHP for 1.6's, 120 BHP and 136 BHP. Fuel consumption so far has been impressive, todate I am achieving 36-36.5 MPG. Mileage is now at 23...

My Ford
Advantages: All
Disadvantages: No
...* Rating:
* On the road price: £11,195 - £15,395
* For : Dynamics, build, smart styling
* Against : Noise, mean kit
Driving:
The Fiesta's forte. Ford really knows how to make cars handle, so even the cheapest Fiesta will thrill the driver in you. Steering is crisp (all models have a leather wheel), corners are taken tidily and enthusiastically yet the ride remains supple too. A class act, enhanced on the Zetec S model to perfection. Indeed, it's better than the ST, which has more grip but less finesse. The ST's engine is quicker but noisier than the 1.6-litre Zetec-S too. No Fiesta engine is quiet though, while road and wind noise also join the cacophony. But supportive, high-set seats and a spot-on driving position pleases, making up for the lack of space for the clutch foot.
Marketplace:
Plentiful choice is sensibly...

I'm easy like a Mondeo morning...
Advantages: Vast boot space, excellent acceleration
Disadvantages: Begining to look dated
..."But it's a reps car". A voice reverberated around in my head when considering the bright Red 1.8 Mondeo LX in the show room. At the end of the day, the proof is in the pudding, so off i toddled to have a test drive.
Looks : (exterior)
It looks like a typical sales rep car. Big, king of the large car market, and sleek. Thet's the stigma that was holding me back. The body work is tidy - streamlined and simple. This face-lift version is by far superior in looks than its counterpart of a few years previous.
Looks : (Interior)
As you sit in the drivers possition, the first thing that you notice is how easy everything is to reach, and access. If you have your hand on the gear stick, you can keep your palm on the stick, and extend just your finger to control the radio. Alternatively, if that's too physically demanding, you can...
