FORD MONDEO ST200 VERY FAST CAR

...This is a must car for any Ford enthusiast that has a family to consider as well as wanting a car that will shift when you plant your foot firmly to the floor. The Mondeo ST 200, (201 BHP but the name sounds better rounded off). This is produced from a bullet proof Duratech 2544cc V6 engine. The car has traction control and ABS to help you in any emergency situation. The ST 200 was made from 1999 to 2000 on a T, V, W and X plate due to the revision of the new car registration dates. Therefore these are a rare car to get hold of, especially the 500 limited edition versions. The cars body work was not changed much from the ST24 apart from a couple of minor changes such as the grill. Ford Mondeo Estate

Advantages: Space
Disadvantages: Power

...An excellent vehicle to cover high milage in comfort and driver enjoymnet, had 4 versions now and still recomend this car. The eatste version was cavernous but still offered sports like handeling and was very capable of towing up to 1500kg with out too much effort. The only real down side was the front tyre wear which was only 8000 miles when used towing around town, I have covered over 100,000 miles in three of the cars. Thes ervice that I recieved in my local main dealer was excellent. I found the quality of the interiors has improved with age with all controls comfortably coming to hand. The cost of replacing a master key was extortionate at nearly £400, also the garage needed help to get into the car without a key...

Ford Mondeo 1997 Zetec-e (Mk II)

Advantages: Practical, roomy, comfortable, agile, economical, rapid.
Disadvantages: Avoid tatty ones and don't pay too much.

...for a car this size. An excellent buy! Just for your info it cost me £8 less to insure than a Rover 420 SDI, work that out? I can't! N.B My Mondeo has a chip in my key which switches off the immobilser, my key is wearing thin and to replace it is £180 with Ford but an independent key cutter has done it for £75. I also replaced the complete front brakes myself, the parts were £80 in total....

Ford Mondeo ST220

Advantages: Comfort with performance. Smile factor
Disadvantages: high running costs

...from Germany. Mondeo's of all specs do have some common problems, the main one I have come across with mine are the rear bushes. These have to be replaced after about 20-25k. It's not just a bush though, the whole rear sub-frame has to be replaced. I got mune under warranty, but I understand this can cost around £500. I also had a starter motor problem a couple of months ago. Not just a starter motor, had to have the flywheel and part of the clutch replaced. Took them over a week and bill was £900, ouch!!! Of course Ford UK are totally not interested when you try to get them to accept that 35k mileage is not acceptable for a starter motor. However don't let this put you off. Overall the ST220 is a fabulous car, great looks, great performance and spacious. Room for the wife and kids and all the holiday stuff, we drove to Holland...

...I recent purchased a newer Ford to replace my ageing, but ever so reliable Escort. I decided on the Ford Mondeo with a little help from my insurance compnay. Im with a company called Ford Insured , whom only insure Fords. I came across the N reg old shape model when my friend came across it when it was put in part exchange at a local dealer. At the price of only £1375 for a 1996 four door Turbo diesel family saloon I decided to buy it as a bit of a brucy bargain. The car has had a bad life and shows several minor battle scars, but Im sure with a bit of tending loving car I will get the car it back into good condition. The engine in this car has got 119000 miles on it, but it still pulls well. I find the car slow when starting from stand still on a steep bank until the Turbo cuts in at about 3500rpm. Why I Like The New Ford Mondeo

Advantages: Very stylish and responsive car
Disadvantages: Only one plip key

...which lets you open the door of the car but then sets the alarm off. As my husband and I share the car, this is intensely annoying and I can see us having to shell out around £200 to get a second plip key made. This is not something I expected having paid for the supposedly ‘upmarket’ Ghia model. Despite some niggles, on the whole I have been agreeably impressed with the options available within the Mondeo range and I look forward to many years of driving a comfortable car which, although slightly more thirsty than the equivalent Laguna in the automatic version, is certainly a far more powerful and responsive engine. It holds the road really well and corners like a dream. It also turns more than a few heads in the car park. Well done, Ford!...

Ford Mondeo ST TDCI 4 dr

Advantages: MPG, comfort, value for money
Disadvantages: Alloy wheel corrosion

...I have owned my 2006 Ford Mondeo ST tdci for just under a year. In this time I have found the car to be realible and although its the ST model the servicing and parts prices are competitive. The standard spec of the car is high and will rival BMW, Audi but without the price tag. I regularly use motorways and easily get over 40mpg average and the high torque output makes overtaking a doddle. The car is a pleasure to drive and makes long journeys seem effortless. I would highly recommend the Recaro seats as an optional extra as these look more classy than the standard seats. On the down side I have found the headlamp bulbs to be a pain to change, the headlight unit has to be taken out to enable the bulb to be changed. The alloy wheels also appear to tarnish and corrode. The Sony 6 CD radio is a much improved unit from the Ford 6 CD in...

Review of Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCi

1997 (R) Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X hatchback

Advantages: Smooth, comfortable drive; spacious; cheap to run, cruise control; heated windscreen
Disadvantages: Electrics (heater, cd player, radio) can be a bit 'iffy'; rust now appearing

...action, though - this is the only car I have ever owned on which grating the gears happens AT ALL. RUNNING COSTS: Apart from fuel (see above @ tyre pressures 35psi), the other major cost on a car is servicing, and the Mondeo has been very good in that respect too. Service intervals are 20,000 miles, with an oil-change at 10,000 (cam-belt change at 40,000 - EXPENSIVE!) and my car has needed (until this year) little or nothing else done to it. It still uses no oil (5W-30W - a very thin spec oil) between services and the CO emissions are well below MOT levels. I have had 2 cat converters - [NB, one was non-Ford, lasted only 18 months, and speed bumps destroy these at a frightening rate!] I have just had my first 'expensive' service (£500), which included 2x tyres and brakes (first set in 100,000 miles!) as well as the first 'repair...

Mondeo 1.8TD, Cheap to buy,Run, Reliable and won't let you down

Advantages: Cheap to buy, easily maintained.
Disadvantages: Bumpers are easily damaged.

...We have owned three of these and can't fault them, Good performance and plenty of room inside with a big plus that they are reliable and are cheap to repair and maintain. I would go for the Aircon model for when the sun does actually shine and it should not cost you much more for extras such as CD player alloy wheels etc. The estate versions are a particularly good workhorse with a large easy accessible load area with the split rear seats folded down, As an ex mechanic I reckon the engines are good for over 200,000 miles if they get regular oil and filter changes. Servicing is straightforward if you are a DIY fan. All in all I can't fault the Mondeo for a reasonably priced family car or in the estate version a dual purpose vehicle for the small businessman/Tradesman...
