Late Sun In The Real Sardinia...

Advantages: Beautiful, Unspoilt, Superb Climate
Disadvantages: More Expensive Than You Might Expect

..., and the local bread is also excellent. Breakfast generally consists of espresso coffee and small, French style croissants, which may or may not be filled with jam, custard or chocolate. ACCOMMADATION: Half a dozen hotels, mostly 4 or 5 star, command excellent positions on the seafront at Nora, many with their own private beaches, and hotel guests and locals alike lounge on the soft sands. Nearby, the massive five-star resort and spa at Forte Village is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, attracting celebrities and Russian oligarchs alike, and priced accordingly. More modest accommodation is available in Pula, and in other small townships along the coastline. FINALLY: I only visited a tiny corner of Sardinia, but the little I did see of this beautiful island absolutely entranced me, and I am keen to return and explore it...

Sea and Sardinia

Advantages: beautiful
Disadvantages: it's not a white spot on the map any more

...I should warn you: this is the longest opinion I've written so far. A double espresso beside your computer might help you to get through the reading. Not a cup of tea, we're going to coffee country! In case you think of going to Sardinia or any other Italian region one day, forget about tea altogether. Only a masochist would order tea in an Italian bar (as only an Italian masochist would order coffee in a British establishment, so there). When you offer tea to an Italian, you might hear, "No, thank you, I'm fine." Italians drink tea, black or the herbal variety, when they feel unwell, it's medicine for them. Now, have you got your coffee ready? Off we go. HOW TO GET THERE The majority of German tourists go to Sardinia by car and ferry, the majority of British tourists go there by plane. Ah, yes, of course, I hear you saying...

Sardinia?s surface scratched

Advantages: Good beaches, dramatic scenery, historical interest, unspoilt interior
Disadvantages: The cost, and the Costa Smeralda in particular

...It was Cyprus that Saki described as having ?produced more history than could be consumed locally,? but the same could be said of almost any of the Mediterranean?s larger islands, and certainly of Sardinia. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * One is reminded of Sardinia?s history almost on arrival, assuming one has come the cheap way, by Ryanair to Alghero in the north-west of the island. Alghero is a handsome town, in its older parts at least, with a fortified promontory jutting out into the sea to guard the port. Within the old walls is a rabbit-warren of narrow streets and small squares, crammed with mediaeval buildings including some fine churches with Spanish-style bell-towers. The fortifications were built by the Spanish, who used the town as a strongpoint for their occupation from the 14th to the 17th centuries...

SARDINIA

Advantages: Spectacular scenery
Disadvantages: Expensive

...SARDINIA This was our first venture into the Timeshare Exchange setup, having first bought in mainland Spain. Unfortunately I had partly severed a tendon in my right hand a week before we were due to go and driving proved difficult with a splint on one of my fingers. By the time we reached Gatwick I was getting used to the idea and we eventually took off and landed at Alghero in the north west of the island. It was just our luck that our destination was Porto Rotondo, some 90 miles away on the north east coast. Not a good start. No, we hadn’t booked a hire car, preferring to play it by ear. Enquiries at the taxi rank told us that it would cost the equivalent of £110 to get us to our Timeshare – Mamma Mia! This was the first indication that it was going to be an expensive holiday. Instead we hired a car for three days...

The Village

Advantages: Atmosphere. Well produced - Escapist
Disadvantages: Story line too unrealistic for me

...Last week I came across one of those special offers in HMV (4 DVds for £20). It was end of the season sale and I picked up a film called "The Village" just to make up the numbers. It struck me as being some sort of clichéd horror film from the blurb on the cover and I didn't expect to be watching it in the very near future. But it was one of those DVDs that keep popping up every time I looked through my shelf of dozens of other unwatched movies. Well the other evening, it popped up again and I just put it in the machine without giving it too much thought. As I wasn't in the mood for thinking anyway, it would probably be an ideal film. As we got into the film, enter the monster, well, a glimpse of it. It was supposed to be scaring me but even my wife, who makes me jump out of my skin with her sudden screams in scary movies, remained...

The mighty fort shopping park

Advantages: A great selection of shops, free parking
Disadvantages: Doesn't have any designer stores

...In the past few years there has been so many of these "shopping centres" popping up all over the uk, having all the major high street shops all located in one place and all under one roof. Normally these places are placed out of town area's and in industrial estates. The Fort shopping centre is located in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham in the West Midlands How to get there ---------------------- Get on the A38 Tyburn Road or A452 Chester Road which can be found on either junction 5 or 6 of the M6. Follow the signs to the "Fort Shopping Park" and Star City. You can't miss it. In the centre there is a massive tower that lights up in the evening. Facilities -------------- Unlike most town based shopping centres, the Fort shopping park has free car parking which draws people to it rather than pay to park in Birmingham...

Pred Forte

Advantages: It really works
Disadvantages: Remembering to take them during the day

...and go straight to the nearest Eye Casualty Department, which happens to be at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle. I would recommend you do the same if these symptoms become apparent, and believe me the staff will not think you're wasting their time if you have got Iritis. Anyway, enough of my rambling. This review isn't about the condition as such, but more the prescription I am given (well it costs £6.40 a bottle) to treat it. ABOUT PRED FORTE Pred Forte, or Predisolone acetate to give it its pharmeceutical name, is a steroid (anti inflammatory drug). Coming in the form of milky white coloured eye drops, it is used for the short-term treatment of eye inflammation. It helps to reduce the irritation, burning, redness and swelling associated with eye inflammation. BEFORE USE Before prescribing Pred Forte a doctor should ask you...

The Village

Advantages: You will enjoy it
Disadvantages: None

...The Village, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan on a budget of 60 million dollars, was going to be a tough follow up for a director known for his twists and turns. As it turned out, there was a twist, but it was a rather low key one, and it was almost apparent from the start, though it is not without a small end revelation, that will surprise you. This movie starts off really slowly, leading you into the lives of a group of villagers, who live on the outskirts of a wood, in 1897 Pennsylvania, which is seemingly haunted by some nasty hideous monsters, referred to only as, 'Those we do not speak of'. A village where the colour red is not allowed, as it is the colour of evil. The Elders, who have set up and run the village, teach their children that the Towns outside their village is a bad place, and they must never cross into...

Stressed in Sardinia - not

Advantages: Quiet, peacefull and just plain beautiful
Disadvantages: No nightlife

...heaven, if like me, you just can’t have enough shoes, don’t forget your plastic! I can’t forget the food; the mix of cultures (Sardinia having been under the rule of many other cultures over the years) comes right out in the food….. Anywhere you eat, from the most stylish of restaurants to the whole-in the-wall Pizza take-a-ways, your taste buds can be assured of a flavour explosion! Try the local pasta, sea food and don’t miss the local salami pizzas - totally orgasmic! Sardinia would be my top recommendation for couples who want a cheap, get-away-from-it-all, relaxing and, most of all, romantic week-end away, it has everything you need. Get up late, lay on the beach all day, maybe do some shopping if you are feeling energetic, then take a moon lit walk along the sea shore to anyone of Alghero’s...

Europes Jewel in the Crown, Sardinia

Advantages: Gastronomy, People, Culture, Weather, Sea and coastline, Panoramas
Disadvantages: Language

...I was first introduced to Sardinia through meeting my wife; she is Sardinian. As a visitor, you soon begin to discover why Sardinia is so special as you arrive. In the summer months you can arrive from the more temperate climes of northern Europe to be faced with the heat of North Africa, whereas, in the winter it is cooler but still pleasant most days. Scenery is dramatic. Being exposed on all sides to sea and prevailing weather, often incredible views can be experienced which are never the same twice; from sunrises to sunsets, storms or just the blur of haze from the blistering heat. Beaches are incredible, clear blue seas and white sands. The coastline is often rugged too, combining cliffs, valleys and mountain backdrops making the summers visit to the beach a little different. The island is mountainous and you can get...
