Williamson PArk - the park on a hill

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings and free entry
Disadvantages: A bit hilly

...I would guarantee that lots of you reading this who have not heard of Williamson Park, will indeed have seen the most prominent building in it - if you have travelled on the M6 near to Lancaster. Williamson Park is a beautiful public park located on a hill above the city of Lancaster, Lancashire that consists of 54 acres of beautiful parkland. The pre-mentioned building in the park, and one that dominates Lancaster for miles around, is the Ashton Memorial ( or as it is known locally - the'Taj Mahal of the North'! ) - a huge domed, folly built in the 1900s by James Williamson (Lord Ashton) as a tribute to his late wife THE PARK Lancaster's Williamson Park was built and opened in 1878.by millionaire James Williamson.( Lord Ashton) who became a millionaire producing oil cloth and linoleum which was exported from...

Fred Claus Film only

Advantages: Great funny film.
Disadvantages: Not suitable for under 10's

... FRED CLAUS (2007) Film Only Review It?s nearly Christmas!!! So it has to be done, watching Christmas films, that is!! This film ? ?Fred Claus? - was one that seemed to have passed me by last year and one that I watched on Sky this week. The film is slightly different to the majority of Christmas films as it features Santa?s brother Fred, more than the big man himself. THE STORY The story starts with the birth of Nick Claus; God help his mother, this child looked about ten months old and said ?Ho Ho?, a clue to who he was going to be!! Fred Claus, the older brother of Nicholas loved him and promised to be the best big brother ever, but there were issues between them. Nick was the family favourite, and Fred came to resent him, everything he did seemed wrong while everything...

Review of Fred Claus

Fred Flaws

Advantages: Some funny moments.
Disadvantages: Not enough funny moments because of the sloppy writing.

...Did you know Santa Claus had a brother? A big brother named Fred to be precise. But Fred has always lived in the shadow of his younger sibling who would grow up to be the very model of giving. Fred has gone the other way and makes his living as a repo man. But when he finds himself in jail, the only one that can bail him out is Nick. And he does so on the understanding that his big brother will work at the North Pole in the run-up to Christmas. So Fred heads north where his rabble-rousing ways jeopardise Santa's workshop as a nasty bureaucrat is looking for a reason to shut it down. As director David Dobkin previously helmed "Wedding Crashers" I was expecting something sharper than your usual family Christmas movie. But this film wasn't all I hoped. It's fine when Vince Vaughn is being allowed to run off at the mouth, but the rest...

Festive Fred Claus!

Advantages: great talent, amazing and unique plot, nice length
Disadvantages: not too humerous

...I am a massive film fan, and I absolutely adore going into one of the local cinemas to catch up on the latest films! Last year, my friend and I went in to see the Christmas film of 2006 (Santa Clause 3) on the 1st of December, to get us into the festive spirit. This year, we decided to carry on this new tradition, so we checked up on the latest films, and one in particular caught our attention; Fred Claus! It seemed like the perfect Christmas film for us to see, and the trailer we watched for it made it out to be very comic and amusing. So it was decided; at eight o clock' on that Saturday, we ventured to the local Vue cinema to watch the new and exciting festive film, Fred Claus! FRED CLAUS - PLOT We've all heard of good old Saint Nick, but this Christmas story shines the spotlight onto his older brother, Fred. The story begins...

Drop dead Fred

Advantages: Hilarious entertainment
Disadvantages: none

...childhood 'Drop dead Fred', (played by Rik Mayall), who only Lizzie can hear or see. With many flashback later, the story unfolds as to how Lizzie happened upon Fred and how Fred would always get Lizzie into trouble. But as Lizzie was now in the same state of mind as when she was younger, being depressed and alone, she unleashes the power of the very naughty Fred. As Lizzie tries to get her life back on track, attempting to patch up her marriage, Fred is at her side, trying to help in his own haphazard way? **IN CONCLUSION** Well what can I say about this movie..??? Hilarious?, comical?, side-splittingly funny? Well all three spring to mind. As most people had/have imaginary friends when they are kids this movie opens your mind to just how difficult a friend like that can be. The story is well written and the all round...

Review of Drop Dead Fred (DVD)

Drop Dead, Fred!

Advantages: based on a good idea, humorous at times
Disadvantages: not-so-humorous at times

...Elizabeth (Phoebe Cates) has just realised that her marriage is well and truly over. In the same day, she manages to get fired from her job. At this point, she decides to cut her losses and give into her mother's demands that she come and stay with her. As a result, she is in a bit of an odd place, both emotionally and physically - her marriage over, no job, at her family's home. Basically, she has come full circle and has in a way reverted back to her childhood. And it is at this point that she comes across the box her childhood friend Drop Dead Fred (Rik Mayall) was trapped in by her mother many years previously, and sets him free. Drop Dead Fred isn't a real friend, but an imaginary one. However, Elizabeth can see the physical manifestation of him, as can we. But no one else on screen can. Fred is delighted to be reunited...

FRED CLAUS DVD

Advantages: CHRISTMAS FILM
Disadvantages: NONE

...This film was very enjoyable. It is about Santa Claus's brother, the only thing I can say is that I think it focused on his brother too much through out the film. Fred Claus didn't believe in the life style of Santa Claus. They have a family meal together and Fred is lent some money on the promise that Fred goes to work for Santa over Christmas to pay him back. First he disagrees, but them he eventually agrees to go. On the day they have agreed an elf comes to collect Fred in a sleigh to take him to lap land so he can help Santa. The two brother do not get on well at all, and they fight a lot. Fred has also in the past fallen out with his parents, because his parents think Santa is great and Fred is a looser. He helps Santa by going through the naughty and nice list. Fred in temper stamps all the children with nice...

Review of Fred Claus

Fred's verse for a charity nurse.

Advantages: Funny and all for a worthwhile cause.
Disadvantages: Too short !!!!

...I have pondered long and hard about this review and found it quite taxing and emotional, as will be seen in my final paragraph of this review, however, I have decided to take the plunge and my choice of title is to cover all aspects of the content of the review. For those who are aware of this author, I ask for your indulgence in order that those who do not may be enlightened. Thank you. THE AUTHOR. The late Fred Pass was an ordinary working man, a man with a talent for writing that was kept hidden for what, in my opinion, was far too many years. Born in the 1940's, he left school at 15 and spent the 40 years as a scrap yard worker. He would often compose poems which he would relate to people and somehow approached and persuaded to publish them in aid of St. Luke's Hospice charity in his home city of Sheffield. Thus began his...

Way It Is, John Williamson

Advantages: Fantastic songs wonderful singing
Disadvantages: None

...A mate of mine who is a radio presenter first introduced me to the music of John Williamson. At first, his CDs were only available through Reddington's Rare Records in Birmingham as special imports. But as the influence of the radio programme they were played on spread (the Ed Doolan Show on BBC Radio WM) John Williamson began doing tours of the Midlands and them of the UK and his CDs became more widely available. "The Way It Is" is a wonderful introduction to the works of John Williamson who is, in my opinion, probably the best poet musician singer and humorist that Australia has produced in many years. Think of an Australian Max Boyce and you are probably part way to understanding the vibrant and lively appeal of John Williamson. The first song on the CD is Campfire on the Road. Is a wonderful love song with multiple...

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...
